  • The classification of the background and cell areas is very important research area because of the ambiguous boundary. In this paper, the region of cell is extracted from an image of uterine cervical cytodiagnosis using the region growing method that increases the region of interest based on similarity between pixels. Segmented image from background and cell areas is binarized using a threshold value. And then 8-directional tracking algorithm for contour lines is applied to extract the cell area. First, the extracted nucleus is transformed to RGB color that is the original image. Second, the K-means clustering algorithm is employed to classify RGB pixels to the R, G, and B channels, respectively. Third, the Hue information of nucleus is extracted from the HSI models that is the transformation of the clustering values in R, G, and B channels. The backpropagation algorithm is employed to classify and identify the normal or abnormal nucleus.

  • Methods for effective musical score recognition and efficient editing of musical scores are demanded because functions of computers for researches on musical activities become more and more important parts in recent days. In the conventional methods for handling musical scores manually, there are weak points such as incorrect score symbols in input process and requirement of much time to adjust the incorrect symbols. And also there is another weak point that the scores edited by each application program can be remodified by a specific application program only. In this paper, we proposed a method for automatic musical score recognition of printed musical scores in order to make up for the weak points. In the proposed method, staffs in a scanned score image are eliminated by horizontal histogram, noises are removed by 4 directional edge tracking algorithm, and then musical score symbols are extracted by using Grassfire algorithm. The extracted symbols are recognized by hierarchical ART2 algorithm. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed method, we used 100 musical scores for experiment. In the experiment, we verified that the proposed method using hierarchical ART2 algorithm is efficient.

  • Most recognition methods of car licence plate have difficulties concerning plate recognition rates and system stability in that restricted car images are used and good image capture environment is required. To overcome these difficulties, I proposed a new recognition method of car licence plates, in which both intensity variation and color information are used. For a captured car image, multiple candidate plate-bands are extracted based on the number of intensity variation. To have an equal performance on abnormally dark and bright Images. plate lightness is calculated and adjusted based on the brightness of plate background. Candidate plate regions are extracted using contour following on plate color pixels in oath plate band. A candidate region is decided as a real plate region after extracting character regions and then recognizing them. I recognize characters using template matching since total number of possible characters is small and they art machine printed. To show the efficiency of the proposed method, I tested it on 200 car images and found that the method shows good performance.

  • In this paper, the 1-level DWT(Discrete Wavelet Transform) coefficients of a binary logo image are used as the watermark. The watermark should be inserted in the same band which is equivalent to the host image when the watermark is inserted in the wavelet domain. This is the image fusion of the proposed watermarking method. The watermark is inserted in relatively significant coefficients after the insertion area is defined. The more significant coefficients have the important information because they are identified as the edge and major surface in images. The significant coefficients are defined when their absolute value exceeds the threshold. The standard deviation is used as the weight value of watermark insertion in order to strengthen the weight of the watermark insertion according to the value of the coefficients. The proposed watermarking method is an adaptive scheme, and the proposed two detection algorithms can be adaptively used when the watermarked image is distorted by cropping, filtering, or compression.

  • People who have hearing difficulties suffer from satisfactory mutual interaction with normal people because there are little chances of communicating each other. It is caused by rare communication of people who have hearing difficulties with normal people because majority of normal people can not understand sing language that is represented by gestures and is used by people who have hearing difficulties as a principal way of communication. In this paper, we propose a recognition method of finger language using FCM algorithm in order to be possible of communication of people who have hearing difficulties with normal people. In the proposed method, skin regions are extracted from images acquired by a camera using YCbCr and HSI color spaces and then locations of two hands are traced by applying 4-directional edge tracking algorithm on the extracted skin lesions. Final hand regions are extracted from the traced hand regions by noise removal using morphological information. The extracted final hand regions are classified and recognized by FCM algorithm. In the experiment using images of finger language acquired by a camera, we verified that the proposed method have the effect of extracting two hand regions and recognizing finger language.

  • In this paper, we proposed a recognition system for resident registration cards using ART-1 and PCA algorithm. To extract registration numbers and issue date, Sobel mask and median filter are applied first and noise removal follows. From the noise-removed image, horizontal smearing is used to extract the regions, which are binarized with recursive binarization algorithm. After that vortical smearing is applied to restore corrupted lesions, which are mainly due to the horizontal smearing. from the restored image, areas of individual codes are extracted using 4-directional edge following algorithm and face area is extracted by the morphologic characteristics of a registration card. Extracted codes are recognized using ART-1 algorithm and PCA algorithm is used to verify the face. When the proposed method was applied to 25 real registration card images, 323 characters from 325 registration numbers and 166 characters from 167 issue date numbers, were correctly recognized. The verification test with 25 forged images showed that the proposed verification algorithm is robust to detect forgery.

  • In this paper, we propose a sign language recognition system using SVM and depth camera. Especially, we focus on the Korean sign language. For the sign language system, we suggest two methods, one in hand feature extraction stage and the other in recognition stage. Hand features are consisted of the number of fingers, finger length, radius of palm, and direction of the hand. To extract hand features, we use Distance Transform and make hand skeleton. This method is more accurate than a traditional method which uses contours. To recognize hand posture, we develop the decision tree with the hand features. For more accuracy, we use SVM to determine the threshold value in the decision tree. In the experimental results, we show that the suggested method is more accurate and faster when extracting hand features a recognizing hand postures.

  • In this paper, we propose a implementation approach of the high-speed feature extraction algorithm. The proposed method is based on the block type classification algorithm which reduces the computation time when target macro block is divided to smooth block type that has no image features. It is quantitatively identified that occurs at 29.5% of the total image using 200 standard test images with $64{\times}64$ macro block size. This means that within a standard test image containing various image information, 29.5% can reduce the complexity of the operation. When the proposed approach is applied to the Canny edge detection, the required latency of the edge detection can be completely eliminated, such as 2D derivative filter, gradient magnitude/direction computation, non-maximal suppression, adaptive threshold calculation, hysteresis thresholding. Also, it is expected that operation time of the feature detection can be reduced by applying block type classification algorithm to various feature extraction algorithms in this way.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient object classification method based on semantic segmentation for multi-labeled image data. In addition to various pixel unit information and processing techniques such as color information, contour, contrast, and saturation included in image data, a detailed region in which each object is located is extracted as a meaningful unit and the experiment is conducted to reflect the result in the inference. We use a neural network that has been proven to perform well in image classification to understand which object is located where image data containing various class objects are located. Based on these researches, we aim to provide artificial intelligence services that can classify real-time detailed areas of complex images containing various objects in the future.
