An in vitro test and a broiler feeding trial were conducted to test the effect of hydrothermal treatment of wheat bran on phytate-P degradation and it’s feeding effect on performance of broilers. Hydrothermal treatment of wheat bran was carried out at 55$^{\circ}C$ with pH 5.5 buffer solution. Phytate-P content of wheat bran decreased quadrically as the wheat bran: buffer solution ratio increased from 1:0.5 to 1:5. Phytate-P degradation was not significantly affected by incubation times above 10 min., drying temperature (55$^{\circ}C$, 65$^{\circ}C$ and 75$^{\circ}C$) or pH of the buffer solution (5.5 and 7.0). A feeding trial was conducted with 240 sex separated d-old broiler chickens (Ross$^{\circledR}$). Broilers were randomly housed to 24 cages of 10 birds each. Six cages (3 of each sex) were assigned to 4 treatments: Control-normal level of non-phytate-P (NPP); LP-low NPP treatment which had 0.1% lower NPP than Control; LPWB-LP with wheat bran which provided 475 IU of plant phytase per kg diet; LPHWB-LP with hydrothermally treated wheat bran. Results of the feeding trial showed that broilers in the LP treatment gained significantly less than other treatments in starter period (1-21d) but only male broilers for growing LP gained significantly less than Control in the grower (22-35d) and overall period. There were no significant differences in weight gain among the birds of LPWB, LPHWB and Control. Feed intake during the overall period was not significantly different between LPWB and Control but that of LP was lower than LPHWB and that of LPHWB was lower than Control. Feed/gain ratio was significantly lower in LPHWB and LP than in Control and LPWP. Mortality was highest in LPHWB. Availability of crude fat, crude ash and Ca was significantly lower in LP than other treatments. Availability of P and Zn was higher in LPWB and LPHWB than in Control and LP. Availability of P, Mg and Zn was highest in LPHWP treatment. Excretion of P was significantly lower in low NPP treatments than in Control. Serum Ca level was highest whereas serum P level was lowest in LP. Tibial crude ash content was higher in wheat bran treatments, but lower in LP than Control. However, tibial Ca content was higher in Control and LP than wheat bran treatments. Tibial P content of LP and LPWB was lower than Control. However, tibial content of Fe was highest in LP. It was concluded that wheat bran, a source of plant phytase, could be used in low NPP broiler diets to prevent the depression of performance. Reduction of P excretion can be achieved concomitantly. Hydrothermal treatment of wheat bran was effective in improving utilizability of some minerals but was not effective in improving performance of broilers.
An experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of supplementary Blended essential oil(CRINA$^{\circledR}$) on the performance, nutrient availability, fatty acid composition of leg muscle, small intestinal microflora and blood parameters in broiler chickens. One thousand unsexed day-old broiler chickens were assigned to five treatments : control(T1), 5ppm avilamycin(starter diet) & 5ppm flavomycin(grower diet) T2, 5ppm avilamycin(starter diet) & 50ppm CRINA$^{\circledR}$(grower diet) T3, 50ppm CRINA$^{\circledR}$(starter & grower diet) T4, 50ppm CRINA$^{\circledR}$+ 500ppm lactic acid$^{\circledR}$ (starter & grower diet) T5. Each treatment had four replications of 50 birds each. Growth performance was significantly improved by dietary supplements(T2-T5). There were no significant differences among treatment T2, T3, T4 and T5. Feed intake was not significantly different among treatments. Dietary supplementation of CRINA$^{\circledR}$(T3, T4, T5) resulted in significant(p〈0.05) improvement in feed/gain(F/G) during finishing period (4-5weeks). The birds fed CRINA$^{\circledR}$ supplemented diet(T4) showed significantly(p〈0.05) higher availability of crude fat, methionine and methionine + cystine than those fed antibiotics supplemented diet(T2). Mortality was not significantly affected by treatments. The colony forming unit(CFU) of E.coli in small intestinal content was significantly lower in antibiotics & CRINA$^{\circledR}$(T3) compared to CRINA$^{\circledR}$ treatment(T4)(P〈0.05). CFU of Cl. perfringens was low in CRINA$^{\circledR}$(T4) but not different significantly with other treatments. Serum triglyceride level of birds fed CRINA$^{\circledR}$ + lactic acid diet(T5) was significantly lower(p〈0.05) than those fed antibiotics supplemented diet(T2). Cholesterol level of the birds fed antibiotics(T2) or CRINA$^{\circledR}$ + lactic acid supplemented diet(T5) was significantly higher(p〈0.05) than other treatments. HDL level of birds fed control diet was significantly lower(p〈0.05) than that of others. The levels of serum IgG were not significantly different among treatments. Major fatty acids composition of leg muscle fat was significantly influenced by treatments. Control group showed significantly higher palmitic acid(C$_{16:0}$) and steraric acid(C$_{18:0}$) content than other treatments(p〈0.05). Content of oleic acid(C$_{18:1}$), however, was significantly lower in the control than others treatments. Content of linolenic acid(C$_{18:3}$) was significantly higher in CRINA$^{\circledR}$+ lactic acid(T5) than antibiotics & CRINA$^{\circledR}$(T3) treatments. Total saturated fatty acids content was higher and total unsaturated fatty acids were lower in the leg muscle fat of the control than that of other treatments. It is concluded that CRINA$^{\circledR}$ supplementation improved growth rate and F/G ratio in broilers. The combination of CRINA$^{\circledR}$ with either antibiotics or lactic acid did not show any additive or synergistic effects in broiler chickens .
Dietary levels of 0%, 0225%, 0.45% inorganic phosphorus in the form of tricalcium phosphate were included in two different experimental diets, which contains 40% of wheat bran with or without extrusion. It is to examine the effects of extruded wheat bran containing different Bevels of inorganic phosphorus on the performance of broiler chicks, including the nutrient availabilities, compared with that of the diet containing non-extruded wheat bran. The results are as follows; 1. Regardless dietary levels of inorganic phosphorus, the weight gain in general was higher for the groups fed non-extruded wheat bran but little significance was seen between the groups of extruded and the non-extruded. However, the effect of dietary inclusion of inorganic phosphorus on the weight gain was evident and the gain was higher in the groups receiving the higher levies of inorgainc phosphorus but failed to observe the significant difference between the added groups of 0.225% and 0.45% of inorganic phosphorus, suggesting that a considerable amount of phytin phosphorus in wheat bran is available to meet the requirement. 2. For the feed intake, there was a tendency for the groups fed extruded wheat bran consuming more feed, compared with that of the non-extruded but little significance was observed. This was also true between the groups of receiving 0.225% and 0.45% inorganic phosphorus t The feed efficiency was improved by the addition of inorgainc phosphorus, but failed to observe the significance between the added groups. 4. The dry matter digestibility was improved in proportion to increasing the levels of inorganic phosphorus for the both groups of extruded and the non-extruded This indicates that addition of extruded wheat bran has little effects on improving the digestibility. 5. Within the added groups of 0.225% and 0.45% inorganic phosphorus, the protein digestibility was increased with including the extruded wheat bran in the diet However, the effect on body weight gain was not evident. 6. The calcium and phosphorus content of tibia was shown the tendency of increasing with increasing the dietary levels of inorganic phosphorus but close correlation with dietary levels of inorganic phosphorus was not noted in tibia contents of calcium and phosphorus.
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of a deep sea water (DSW) supplement on the quality characteristics of chicken meat. One-day-old broiler chicks (Ross 308) were assigned to three groups and supplemented with water (control) or DSW diluted with deionized water at 1:40 (DSW1:40) and 1:20 (DSW1:20) ratios, respectively, for 28 d. The control was fed a basal diet containing 0.18% salt. Five birds were slaughtered from each group, and the breast meat was collected and stored at $4^{\circ}C$ for 9 d. The DSW supplementation did not affect cholesterol content in the chicken meat. The DSW 1:40 supplement decreased fat content (p<0.05), water-holding capacity (p<0.05), and sodium and potassium contents (p<0.05) but increased unsaturated fatty acid content (p<0.05) and the $L^*$ value (p<0.05) of the meat. The DSW 1:20 supplement increased the $a^*$ value (p<0.05) but decreased thiobarbituric acid reactive substance inhibition, the $L^*$ value (p<0.05), and the $b^*$ value (p<0.05) in chicken meat. However, the DSW 1:20 supplement did not affect water-holding capacity, fatty acid composition, or mineral content. DSW supplementation at a higher concentration increased red color but decreased lipid oxidation stability. However, further studies are needed to support our findings.
The Waste Rice Straws (W.R.S.) after cultivation with the Pleurotas Ostreatus SACCARDO was substituted for wheat bran in the broiler ration. The results of the experiment 1 and 2 obtained were summerized as follows; 1. The content of C. protein in the W.R.S. showed 1.5% higher value than that in the rice straw. No change was detected in the content of C. fat. However the content of C. fiber and N.F.E in W.R.S. decreased in comparision with those of raw rice straw. 2. The treated groups were inclned to rapid gain of body weight, especially the 4% W.R.S. group had been showed significatly higher value of gain than the control and 6% treated groups (p<0.05 ). 3. No significant differences were observed in the amount of feet intake among experimental groups, even if the treated groups showed slightly higher intake than control group. 4. The treated groups in W.R.S. were inferior to the control group in feed intake but there were no significant differences. 5. The methionine in W.R.S. was the only amino acid which contained similar quantity of wheat brans. 6. To extend the amount of W.R.S. in broiler ration the 6% of W.R.S. was substituted for wheat bran and methionine mixture was added. No significance differences had been showed in weight gain, feed intake and feed efficiency between control and treated groups. Even though the treated groups showed more feed intake and lower weight gain in comparision with control group. 7. The methionine added group showed adverse effect in economics of production (p<0.01) because of high cost of the methionine mixture, Therefore less than. 6% of the WRS could be substituted for wheat bran. According to the results of the experiment 1 and 2 it could be concluded that maximum use of the W.R.R. as substitute for wheat bran was less than 4% of the ration.
In order to study the effect of feeding moldy corn in the feed and to compare the efficacy of several antidotical treatments, a feeding trial was conducted using broiler chickens. Ground yet low corn was adjusted to contain 20% moisture and then incubated at 35$^{\circ}C$ for 20 days. The number of fungi increased from 11${\times}$10$^4$/g to 42 10$\^$7/g on incubation but aflatoxins (B$_1$, B$_2$, G$_1$, G$_2$) were not detected by TLC test. Moldy corn was included in the experimental diets at the level of 7% with various treatments. Thirty six hatched male broiler chickens were divided into 6 groups and each group was placed for 4 weeks on one of the following treatments: Fresh corn, Moldy corn, Ammoniated (1.5%) moldy corn, Moldy corn+BHT (0.1%), Moldy corn CTC (100ppm) and Moldy corn+Probiotics. Weight gains of the birds fed Ammoniated moldy corn diet, Moldy corn+Probiotics dist and Moldy corn+CTC diet were greater by 6.1%. 7.6% and 3.9% respectively than those fed Moldy corn diet. The feed efficiencies of Moldy corn+Probiotics diet and Moldy corn+CTC diet were better than those of Moldy corn diet. Dry matter contents of the livers of the birds fed Ammoniated moldy corn diet, Moldy corn+BHT diet and Moldy corn diet were lower than those of other treatments. Proteion contents of the livers of the birds fed Moldy corn diet, Moldy corn +CTC diet and Moldy corn+BHT diet were lower than those of other treatments. Moldy corn tended to increase fat content of the livers.
Seventy-five commercial male day-old broiler chicks were used to investigate the effects of Oxytetracycline(OTC) and Lonicera japonica Thunberg(LJT) to be active in anti-bacteria and anti-virus on the growth rate, carcass rate and various intestinal organs sizes in broiler at 3 wk of age. Five experimental diets were formulated to have similar protein and energy levels, with OTC 0.04% as low-level antibiotics and OTC 0.34% as high-level antibiotics and 0.5%, 1.0%, 3.0% level of LJT. Birds were housed randomly in 15 battery cages. Birds were 3 replicates per treatment and 5 chicks per replicate. In the body gain, 0.5% level of LJT addition grew significantly higher than the other birds. The feed intake and feed efficiency were not significantly between other birds. The addition levels in OTC and LJT did not any consistent effect on the carcass rate. However, the chest meat percentage vs carcass volume in LJT 0.5% treatment and the leg meat percentage vs carcass volume in DTC 0.04% addition level were significantly higher than those of birds fed other diets. The liver weight rate was significantly higher in OTC 0.04% level. However, the 0% and LJT levels did not exert any consistent effect on the weights of gizzard, heart, bursa of fabricius, head and spleen of broilers. The abdominal and gizzard surrounding fat content rate was higher in bird LJT 1.0% level than birds fed other levels.
This study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of wheat and wheat bran as the source of phytase in a 5 week broiler feeding trial. One thousand day-old broiler chickens(Ross$^{(R)}$) were divided into 20 pens of 50 broilers(25 male and 25 female) each. Four pens were randomly arranged to one of the five dietary treatments: T1, control diet containing normal nonphytate P(NPP) ; T2, T1 - 0.1% NPP; T3, T2 + 600IU microbial phytase(NOVO$^{(R)}$) per kg diet; T4, T2 + 600IU plant phytase from wheat and wheat bran; T5, T2 + 600IU plant phytase from wheat and hydrothermally treated wheat bran. Reduction of NPP level by 0.1%(T2) reduced weight gain and feed intake but plant phytase treatments(T4 and T5) recovered the lost performance. Plant phytase treatments showed better (p<0.05) weight gain and intake than the microbial phytase treatment(T3). There was no difference between regular wheat bran treatment(T4) and hydrothermally treated wheat bran treatment(T5). Mortality was the highest by low NPP diet(T2). Availability of ether extract and crude ash of grower diet was the highest(p<0.05) in normal wheat bran diet(T4). Availability of Ca and P of grower diet was the highest(p<0.05) in T4 followed by T3 and T5. Availability of Mg, Fe and Zn was drastically improved by phytase treatments(T3, T4 and T5). Excretion of Ca, P, Mg, Fe and Zn was the lowest(p<0.05) with microbial phytase treatment(T3). Serum level of Ca and Mg was the highest(p<0.05) with the low NPP treatment(T2). Tibial ash content of T2 and T3 was lower(p<0.05) than that of T1, T4 and T5. However, tibial Ca content was higher(p<0.05) in T1 and T2 than other treatments. Tibial P and Mg contents were the highest(p<0.05) in T1. It was concluded that plant phytase from wheat bran can be effectively used to improve P utilization. Hydrothermal treatment of wheat bran prior to inclusion in the diet had no beneficial effects.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of dietary Flammulina velutipes mycelium (FVM) on physico-chemical properties and nutritional components of chicken meat. Ninety-six broiler chicks (HanHyup No. 3, Korea) were divided into four groups: control (basal diet), T1 (supplemented with 1% FVM), T2 (3%), and T3 (5%). Broiler chicks in each group were slaughtered at 7 weeks of age, and their breast and thigh meat were collected. Lightness ($L^*$) and yellowness ($b^*$) in the T2 and T3 groups were higher than in the control group (p<0.05). The loss of breast meat during cooking was increased in the T1, T2, and T3 groups, and the water-holding capacity of the breast meat was also decreased in these three groups (p<0.05). The water-soluble protein solubility was lower in the T1, T2, and T3 groups than in the control group (p<0.05), but the salt-soluble protein solubility in these three groups was higher than that in the control group (p<0.05). The crude fat content of the breast meat was decreased and that of the thigh meat was increased as the level of FVM was increased (p<0.05). The unsaturated fatty acid content of the breast meat was higher in the T2 and T3 groups than in the control group (p<0.05). The free amino acid content was high in the T1, T2, and T3 groups compared to the control. In conclusion, these results showed that feeding with 3% and 5% FVM increased the L and b values in thigh meat, improved the salt-soluble protein solubility, and increased the content of unsaturated fatty acids and free amino acids.
In this experiment, 5 treatments consisted of control, probiotics (0.2%; T1), illite (1.0%; T2), activated carbon (1.0%; T3), and hardwood vinegar (1.0%; T4) as diets of chicken were evaluated for 35 days through feeding of 200 male chickens (Arbor Acre Broiler). Thigh muscle from slaughtered chickens were analyzed on pH, volatile basic nitrogen (VBN), thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS), shear force, and meat color during 10 d of cold storage at $4{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. Groups of T3 and T4 showed higher pH levels compared to the control group, and T4 showed significantly higher value. Over the storage period, all treatment groups showed increase in pH (p<0.05). Values of VBN of T1, T3, and T4 were lower than those of the control group and T2 up to 7 d of storage (p<0.05), but there was no significance at 10 d of storage. Values of TBARS of T3 and T4 were lower than the control group, T1, and T2, while all treated groups showed rapid increase of TBARS values over storage period (p<0.05). Shear force did not show significant difference among treated groups, but it was decreased over storage. Lightness of meat color (L) in treated groups was higher than the control, and T4 showed the highest value during entire storage period (p<0.05). Yellowness levels (b) of T3 and T4 were higher than the control group. These results may suggest the improvement of chicken meat quality and shelf life via the addition 1% activated carbon and 1% hardwood vinegar into feed.
