  • The characteristics of the fluid flow and mass transfer in a vertical atmospheric pressure chemical vapor deposition (APCVD) are numerically studied. In order to get the optimal process parameters for the uniformity of deposition on a substrate, Navier-Stokes and energy equations have been solved for the pressure, mass-flow rate and temperature distribution in a CVD reactor. Results show that the thermal boundary condition at the reactor wall has an important effect in the formation of buoyancy-driven secondary cell when radiation effect is considered. Results also show that reduction of the buoyancy effect on the heated reactor improves the uniformity of deposition.

  • A parametric study on the interactions of two spheres aligned in the streamwise direction is carried out using an immersed boundary method. The numerical results for the case of single sphere for the range of Re ${\leq}$ 300 are in good agreement with other authors' experimental and numerical results currently available. Then, our main investigation is focused on identifying the change of the vortical structures in the presence of a nearby sphere aligned in the streamwise direction for the range Re ${\leq}$ 220. It turns out that significant changes in physical characteristics are noticed depending on how close the two spheres are. In this paper, not only quantitative changes in the key physical parameters such as the force coefficients, but also qualitative changes in vortex structures are reported and analyzed.

  • In this investigation, we studied the wake interactions incurred by two nearby spheres at Re=300. We considered all possible arrangements of the two spheres in terms of the distance between the spheres and, the angle inclined with respect to the flow direction. It turns out that significant changes in shedding characteristics are noticed depending on how the two spheres are positioned. In this study, not only quantitative changes in the key physical parameters such as force coefficients and shedding frequencies, but also qualitative changes in shedding patterns are analyzed and reported.

  • Small-amplitude harmonic oscillations of multi-cylinders are considered both experimentally and theoretically. For the theoretical model, the flow regime is separated into inner and outer regions. In the inner region, the flow is governed by the generalized Stokes boundary layer equation. In the outer region, the full Navier-Stokes equation for the steady streaming flow is solved numerically by using ADI scheme and FVM coupled with the boundary integral method. Flow visualization experiments are conducted by using the Laser Sheet Image Technique. The case of two circular cylinders and square cylinders with variable distances are chosen as a typical example. Although experimental results are based on the flow in the finite domain, both experimental and numerical results agree well qualitatively. As the separation of cylinders is increased, a numerical result shows the asymptotic convergence to a single cylinder case.

  • A numerical scheme solving the quasi-3D wave-induced circulation is presented. The governing equations have been solve implicitly using a fractional step method in conjunction with the approximate factroization techniques. The equation of each step was discretized by the finite volume scheme which yields more accurate and conservative approximations than the schemes based on finite differences. Examples of computed nearshore current patterns are presented to demonstrate the validity of the model for typical situations through comparison with laboratory experimental data (Gourlay. 1974).

  • Flow analysis in a turbine cascade by Euler or Navier-Stokes equation gives relatively accurate solution, however, those method require large computer memory or computing time. on contrast, the panel method, which is applied to incompressible and inviscid flow, provides fast and reasonal solution but the compressibility correction is required for a high air velocity case. In this paper, the compressibility corrected panel method was applied in order to find velocity distribution on turbine blades. Results showed that the calculated velocity in a turbine cascade by the compressibility corrected panel method gave good agreement with experimental results or the solution by finite volume method for compressible flow.
