An Area-Efficient DC-DC Converter with Poly-Si TFT for System-On-Glass (System-On-Glass를 위한 Poly-Si TFT 소 면적 DC-DC 변환회로)

  • An area-efficient DC-DC voltage up-converter in a poly-Si TFT technology for system-on-glass is described which provides low-ripple output. The voltage up-converter is composed of charge-pumping circuit, comparator with threshold voltage mismatch compensation, oscillator, buffer, and delay circuit for multi-phase clock generation. The low ripple output is obtained by multi-phase clocking without increasing neither clock frequency nor filtering capacitor The measurement results have shown that the ripple on the output voltage with 4-phase clocking is 123mV, while Dickson and conventional cross-coupled charge pump has 590mV and 215mV voltage ripple, respectively, for $Rout=100k\Omega$, Cout-100pF, and fclk=1MHz. The filtering capacitor required for 50mV ripple voltage is 1029pF and 575pF for Dickson and conventional cross-coupled structure, for Iout=100uA, and fclk=1MHz, while the proposed multi-phase clocking DC-DC converter with 4-phase and 6-phase clocking requires only 290pF and 157pF, respectively. The efficiency of conventional and the multi-phase clocking DC-DC converter with 4-phase clocking is $65.7\%\;and\;65.3\%$, respectively, while Dickson charge pump has $59\%$ efficiency.

A Study on Ti:LiNbO3 Integrated Optical Wavelength Tunable Polarization Mode Controllers (Ti:LiNbO3 집적광학형 파장가변 편광모드 조절기에 관한 연구)

  • We designed and fabricated integrated-optic tunable polarization controllers based on $LiNbO_3$ with the Ti-indiffused waveguide along the y-axis utilizing the electro-optic effect. The device consists of $TE↔TM$ mode converters and TE/TM phase shifters. We analyzed the operation principles of each device utilizing transfer matrices based on a Jones matrix and simulated shifting of the center wavelength by inducing voltage. We confirmed experimentally that the fabricated devices control the tunability of the center wavelength and the input SOP.

Implementation of Ku-band Low Noise Block for Global Multi-Band Digital Satellite Broadcasting (글로벌형 다중대역 디지털 위성방송용 Ku-대역 LNB 개발)

  • In this paper, a Multi-Band Ku-band down converter was designed for reception of multi-band digital satellite broadcasting. The Multi-band low-nose down converter was designed to form four local oscillator frequencies (9.75, 10, 10.75 and 11.3GHz) representing a low phase noise due to VCO-PLL with respect to input signals of 10.7 to 12.75GHz and 3-stage low noise amplifier circuit by broadband noise matching, and to select an one band of intermediate frequency (IF) channels by digital control. The developed low-noise downconverter exhibited the full conversion gain of 64dB, and the noise figure of low-noise amplifier was 0.7dB, the P1dB of output signal 15dBm, and the phase noise -73dBc@100Hz at the band 1 carrier frequency of 9.75GHz. The low noise block downconverter (LNB) for receiving four-band digital satellite broadcasting designed in this paper can be used for satellite broadcasting of vessels navigating international waters.

Design of Voltage Controlled Oscillator with High Reliability and Low Phase Noise (고신뢰성과 저위상잡음을 갖는 전압제어 발진기의 설계 및 제작)

  • The VCO(Voltage Controlled Oscillator) with low phase noise and high reliability is implemented using nonlinear design, and its phase noise characteristics are compared with that of Lesson's equation. The microstripline coupled with dielectric resonator is realized as a high impedance inverter to improve the phase noise, and the qualify factor of resonator circuit can be transferred to active device with the enhanced the loaded quality factor. The worst case and part stress analyses are achieved to obtain the high reliability of VCO. The developed VCO has the oscillating tuning factor of 0.56MHz/V for the control voltage range of 0$\~$12V This VCO requires the DC power of 160mW. The phase noise characteristics exhibit good performances of -96.51dBc/Hz @ 10KHz and -116.3dBc/Hz @ 100KHz, respectively. And, the output power of 7.33 dBm is measured.

  • 본 논문에서는 단일주파수망에서 다수의 송신기로부터 전송되는 방송신호 간의 주파수를 일치시키기 위한 방법을 제안한다. 다수의 송신기로 동일한 송신채널을 통해 콘텐츠를 전송하는 경우 신호가 중첩되는 지역에서 주파수를 정확히 일치시키지 않으면 도플러효과가 야기되어 수신성능이 현저히 저하된다. 일반적으로 GPS 기준신호를 송신시스템의 참조주파수로 사용함으로써 방송신호 간의 주파수를 일치시킨다. 이 경우 GPS 기준신호로부터 복원된 참조주파수를 주파수 상하향 변환에 사용하면 위상지터가 증폭되어 방송신호 간의 순간적인 주파수 차이가 크게 발생할 수 있다. 이를 해결하기 위해 본 논문에서는 GPS 참조주파수보다 위상지터가 작은 송신기 자체의 국부발진기 주파수를 주파수 상하향 변환에 사용하는 한편 국부발진기 자체의 주파수 오차를 상쇄함으로써 방송신호 간의 주파수를 일치시킨다.

A Novel Method for Rejection of the Spurious Signal in Weaver-Type Up-Conversion Mixer (위버구조 상향변환 혼합기의 스퓨리어스 신호 제거 방법)

  • A novel method to reject the spurious signals which are occurred at Weaver-type low-IF transmitter was proposed in this paper. The spurious signals are generated by the gain and phase imbalances of I/Q channel or imperfect characteristics of 90$^{\circ}$ phase shifter in local oscillator for I/Q channel source. By deriving the gain and phase-based functions from RF spurious signal with the channel imbalance information, the lie channel imbalances were deduced as functions with magnitude and sign dependent on I/Q channel imbalance degree. The proposed method compensates the estimated I/Q channel imbalances by correlation values between the down-converted signal obtained by squaring the output signal itself using a simple mixer and the modified baseband signal. By comparing two signals after A/D conversion, the magnitude and sign of each type of imbalances can be determined separately and simultaneously. Based on the I/Q channel imbalance compensation, the spurious signals can be reduced by adjusting the gain and phase values of I or Q channel signal. The way to estimate the channel imbalances of the up-conversion mixer was presented and verified by using theoretical derivations and computer simulations.

Series Connected DC/DC Converter for Fuel Cell System using Variable Phase Shift Switching Method (가변 위상변위 스위칭방식을 적용한 연료전지용 변압기 직렬형 DC/DC 컨버터)

  • This paper presents a novel series connected DC/DC converter and a proper variable phase shift switching method in order to obtain high voltage ratio for fuel cell system. The proposed series connected DC/DC converter has same rectifier and LC filter for DC output voltage, so it can reduce the number of passive devices regardless of the converter number. In the conventional constant phase shift switching method, the proposed series connected DC converters have inverse bias output voltage. In order to overcome this problem, a simple but proper variable phase shift switching method is proposed in the a novel series connected DC/DC converter. In order to verify the proposed system, simulation and experiments are implemented.

  • The active devices used at microwave frequency have the different phase shift according to input power. Especially, The difference of the phase shift is large in the saturation region of the amplifier. In this paper, we disigned the phase control system for fixing the different phase shift at device. With the high frequency nonlinear amplifier, we fabricated such system that the phase shift to be fixed automatically using the varible phase shifter. The variable phase shifter fixed total phase variation of the circuit using the information that was obtained from the comparison of imputsignal phase with output signal phase. Even though the input signal is 2-tone or FM type, we could estimate and also fix the phase variation on DUT Dynamic range is about 10dB. It has been experimented at 1960MHz using Teflon (H=31mil, ${\varepsilon}r$=3.2)

Design of a CMOS Time to Digital Converter with 25ps Resolution (25ps 해상도를 가진 CMOS Time to Digital 변환기설계)

  • This paper describes a CMOS time to digital converter (TDC) that measures the interval between two signals and converts to a digital signal. There are various methods to measure the time interval. But several architectures have a limitation in resolution and in conversion time. Moreover, they have complex algorithms. But the proposed TDC circuit has achieved a high resolution (25ps) by using a high-speed digital sampler and simple algorithm. The sampler detects when input signals comes into the TDC and output is coded. The proposed multiphase clock generator was also implemented to achieve 25p resolution.

A Low Phase Noise Design of Voltage Controlled Dielectric Resonator Oscillator and Reliability Analysis (전압제어 유전체 공진 발진기의 저위상잡음 설계 및 신뢰도 분석)

  • The VCDRO(Voltage Controlled Dielectric Resonate. Oscillator) with low phase noise is designed using nonlinear analysis, and its phase noise characteristics are compared with that of Lesson's equation. The microstripline coupled with dielectric resonator is realized as a high impedance inverter to improve the phase noise performance, and the quality factor of resonator circuit can be transferred to active device with the enhanced the loaded quality factor. The worst case and part stress analyses are achieved to obtain the high reliability of VCDRO and the reliability analysis is accomplished to estimate the probability of operation at the end of life. The developed VCDRO has the oscillating tuning factor of 0.56MHZ1V for the control voltage range of 0-l2V. This VCDRO requires the DC power of 136mW. The phase noise characteristics exhibit good performances of -94.18dBc/Hz (a)10KHz and -116.3dBc/Hz (a)100KHz. And, the output power over 7.33dBm is measured.
