Development of phase shifter for Ka-band Passive Phase Array Seeker and Seeker Performance Analysis due to the Phase Error of Phase Shifter (Ka-대역 수동위상배열탐색기용 위상 변위기 개발 및 변위기 위상 오차에 의한 탐색기 성능 분석)

  • In this paper, phase shifter has been designed and manufactured to apply to passive phase array seeker for Ka-band and its performance was confirmed. It was designed as a key element for conducting electric beam steering by adjusting the phase of the array element. Insertion loss of less than 1.5dB and phase accuracy of less than $10^{\circ}$(RMS) in operation bandwidth of 1GHz were checked. The performance identified by the actual fabrication was further analyzed by applying the beam pattern analysis based on the array synthesis theory. The effect of the final performamnce of the proven phase shifter on the performance and pointing error and angular accuracy of the passive phase array antenna beam pattern was analyzed. Then, the validation of the proposed phase shifter has been made.

A Low-loss Phase Shifter with Harmonics Suppression Using Compact Hybrid Coupler (소형 하이브리드 커플러를 이용한 고조파가 억압된 저손실 위상 변위기)

  • In this paper, a compact low-loss reflector-type phase shifter with harmonic suppression using meander T-shaped branch-line coupler is suggested. The compact coupler for the phase shifter has a size of $22.2{\times}14.9mm^2$ while a conventional branch coupler has a size of $32.6{\times}27.8mm^2$. The phase shifter shows insertion losses of 0.19-0.28 dB at the center frequency of 2.1 GHz, and a measured maximum phase shift of $137^{\circ}$.

  • 4-bit 강유전체 위상변위기를 이용하여 10 GHz, 상온에서 작동하는 위상배열 안테나를 설계 및 제작하였다. 이 안테나는 빔 스캔을 위하여 전압에 대한 비선형특성을 보이는 강유전체 Bal-xSrxTiO3 (BST)를 기본으로 하는 위상변위기를 이용하였다. 우리는 펄스레이져 증착법으로 MgO (001) 기판위에 걸맞게 증착된 BST 박막을 일반적인 사진공정과 식각법을 이용하여 동일평판형 전극을 가진 위상변위기를 만들었다. 일반적인 동일평판형 강유전체 위상변위기의 경우 연결 전송선로의 임피던스와의 차이로 인해 반사손실과 이로 인한 부가적인 삽입손실이 발생한다. 이런 손실들을 줄이기 위해 입력과 출력 포트에 임피던스 매칭을 하였다. 이렇게 테이퍼링되어 만들어진 동일평판형 위상변위기는 이전의 구조에 비해 반사 손실과 삽입 손실 값에서 각각 약 10, 2 dB 정도씩의 개선을 보였다. 이 구조로 전송선로의 길이를 길게하여 만든 1-bit 강유전체 위상변위기는 10 GHz, 150 V의 전압변화에서 180도의 차등위상변위를 보였으며 최대 삽입손실과 최대 반사손실은 각각 약 10 dB, 20 dB 이다. 안테나 모듈은 4개의 마이크로스트림 패치 안테나와 4개의 강유전체 위상변위기로 이루어졌는데 10 GHz, 150 V의 전압변화에서 약 15도의 빔 스캔을 확인하였다.

  • In this paper, the phase shifter using the p-i-n diode is designed and analyze. The large phase shift can be achieved by the swithched-line and the hybrid branch line phase shifter, however the small phase shift can be achieved by the loaded-line phase shifter, according to the bias state of the p-i-n niode. The results of the experiment agree with those of computer simulation at the center frequency.

  • In the case of a radar repeater that used for the trajectory tracking of a high-speed aircraft, it emits pulses of short width. For phase displacement of these signals a branch type phase shifter is used. The phase on the transmission line is changed by utilizing the variable reactance at the end of the displacement branch transmission line. Further, it is easy to control the high output signal, and there is an advantage that the insertion loss is not large even when the reactance fails. In this paper, we will discuss the fabrication test results of a 400 W class phase shifter that sequentially displaces the phase at $0^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$.

  • A low loss reflection type analog phase shifter which is realized with two varactors and branch coupler. is described. A new design technique for the large phase shift is applied using short stub microstripe lines. This paper presented the realization of design and experimental results. Through the experiment using the duroid microstrip line and varactors, the phase of 2.26GHz signal is controlled to the DC voltage with the phase shift range of 170$^{\circ}$. The achieved insertion loss of less than 3㏈ and the return loss of mote than 12㏈ are achieved over all phase states.

  • In this paper, the 5-bit digital phase shiftier with 10 InGaAs HEMTs is designed and fabricated for U.S. mobile DBS receiving active phased array antenna system in 12 GHz band. 11.25 $^{\circ}$, 22.5$^{\circ}$ and 45$^{\circ}$ phase bits are designed in leaded-line type. 90$^{\circ}$ and 180$^{\circ}$ phase bits are designed in reflection type combined with ring hybrid. The return loss more than 17.5 ㏈, insertion louts less than 7.8 ㏈, and maximum phase error of $\pm$6$^{\circ}$for 32 phase responses are measured in 12.2 GHz~ 12.7 GHz band.

  • This paper presents the description of a 4-bit digital p-i-n diode phase shifter that was designed for quasimillimeter wave band satellite receiver to use in phased-array systems. 180$^{\circ}$ and 90$^{\circ}$ cells are designed in reflection type that consists of a 3-dB rat-race hybrid coupler, 45$^{\circ}$ and 22.5$^{\circ}$ cells are designed in loaded-line type to reduce the size of circuit and the number of diode to be used. The 4-bit phase shifter uses eight p-i-n diodes mounted in the microstrip circuit. The average insertion loss for the 16 phase states is 6.92dB over the 19.8~20.3 GHz band and maximum phase error is 6.2$^{\circ}$ at 20 GHz.

  • In this paper, we have developed a new type of the microwave phase conjugator for the active retrodirective antenna array. The circuit topology is consisted of a 2-port structure to avoid the complexity of LO and RF signal combination and matching, using the cascade connection of two single-ended mixers. The operating frequencies are 4.0 GHz, 2.01 GHz and 1.99 GHz for LO, RF, and IF, respectively. Conversion loss is measured to be -7 dB and 1-dB compression point 15 dBm with the LO power of 9 dBm. For the most important parameter, the isolation between RE leakage and IF signal is as high as 25 dB.

  • This paper reviews the research on silicon based phased array system operating from microwave to millimeter wave frequencies. First, the design of phase shifter using CMOS technology is presented. The passive phase shifter is applied to the transmit/receive module from one to 16 channel in a single chip. The 35 GHz 4-element T/R module consumes less than 200 mW both transmit and receive modes. The architecture can extend to 16-channel operating at 44 GHz, thereby improving transmit power and linearity. The Ku-band 2-antenna 4-element receiver was developed using active phase shifter based on vector sum method. It is important to minimize coupling between beams because the chip contains four independent beams. The method of coupling is presented and verified.
