To develop sustainable new natural anti-aging ingredients from Korean native plants, we investigated the cultivation potential of Nymphoides indica using the eco-friendly aquaponics system, and tested the anti-aging effects from N. indica extracts. N. indica could be grown in aquaponics system using floating leaved deep water culture method, and propagated through rhizome propagation. It was confirmed that the nitrate ($80{\mu}g/mL$), potassium ($63.5{\mu}g/mL$) and water temperature ($25^{\circ}C$) greatly affected the cultivation of the N. indica. In addition, synergistic effects were found when two major components (3,7-di-O-methylquercetin-4'-O-${\beta}$-glucoside & sweroside) were present at more than about $5{\mu}g/mL$. The extract had a significant effect on the recovery of skin cells damaged by environmental pollutant such as $benzo[{\alpha}]pyrene$, ammonium nitrate, formaldehyde. It also suppressed $PGE_2$, $TNF-{\alpha}$ and COX-2, and inhibited the production of MMP-1. Taken together, the results suggested that the standardized extracts of N. indica cultivated in the aquaponics has considerable potential as a new cosmetics ingredient with an anti-aging effect.

Japanese anise (Illicium anisatum L.) leaves and twigs were extracted with 50 % aqueous acetone three times. After filtration, the extracts were fractionated with n-hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate and $H_2O$, and then freeze dried after condensation. Then antioxidation and antiviral activity were evaluated on each fractions. In the antioxidative activities, the results indicated high activity in the EtOAc soluble fraction of the leaves and the EtOAc and $H_2O$ soluble fractions of the twigs. It showed much higher antioxidative value compare to the controls, BHT and ${\alpha}$-tocopherol. In the antiviral activities, the all fractions were negative effects in HRV 1B and EV 71, but good in Influenza PR8. The activities of the crude extracts of the leaves and twigs showed more than 80% activity at the concentration of $10{\mu}g/mL$ and $50{\mu}g/mL$, respectively, and the activities of the EtOAc and $H_2O$ soluble fractions were close to 80%. Based on the above results, the extracts of Japanese anise may be applied for one of the natural biomass sources that can be used as an antioxidant and an antiviral substance.
With the breathtaking stride beingmade in the field of biotechnology, biocatalyst research using genetically modified microorganism (GMM) is actively being pursued in food industry. However, domestic food and food additive regulation standards and the number of examination management examples currently used in industry is lacking significantly. Up till now, there are only 6 examples of domestic GMM examination and approval cases for food production purposes and furthermore they are limited to the production of functional sweeteners. Domestically, although GMM is developed as a processing aid (contained use), if they are used in the production of food, the safety of GMM, including environmental safety, is evaluated. Also the produced food or food additives using GMM need to be separately examined and approved as a novel food. On the other hand, imported products produced using GMM need to gain approval for the final product only. Thus the expense and the time to obtain regulatory approval is advantageous for imported products versus domestically produced products. This commentary is written to create the opportunity to reform the current domestic food GMM regulation by comparing and discussing domestic and foreign case analyses of safety evaluation of GMM and related regulations.

High thermal conductivity films with electrically insulating properties have a great potential for the effective heat transfer as substrate and thermal interface materials in high density and high power electronic packages. There have been lots of studies to achieve high thermal conductivity composites using high thermal conductivity fillers such alumina, aluminum nitride, boron nitride, CNT and graphene, recently. Among them, hexagonal-boron nitride (h-BN) nano-sheet is a promising candidate for high thermal conductivity with electrically insulating filler material. This work presents an enhanced heat transfer properties of ceramic/polymer composite films using h-BN nano-sheets and PVA polymer resins. The h-BN nano-sheets were prepared by a mechanical exfoliation of h-BN flakes using organic media and subsequent ultrasonic treatment. High thermal conductivities over $2.8W/m{\cdot}K$ for transverse and $10W/m{\cdot}K$ for in-plane direction of the cast films were achieved for casted h-BN/PVA composite films. Further improvement of thermal conductivity up to $13.5W/m{\cdot}K$ at in-plane mode was achieved by applying uniaxial compression at the temperature above glass transition of PVA to enhance the alignment of the h-BN nano-sheets.
A distillation column, which is a main facility of the chemical process, separates the desired product from a mixture by using the difference of boiling points. The distillation process requires the optimization and the prediction of operation because it consumes much energy. The target process of this study is difficult to operate efficiently because the composition of feed flow is not steady according to the supplier. To deal with this problem, we could develop a data-driven model to predict operating conditions. However, data preprocessing is essential to improve the predictive performance of the model because the raw data contains outlier and noise. In this study, after optimizing the predictive model based long-short term memory (LSTM) and Random forest (RF), we used a low-pass filter and one-class support vector machine for data preprocessing and compared predictive performance according to the method and range of the preprocessing. The performance of the predictive model and the effect of the preprocessing is compared by using R2 and RMSE. In the case of LSTM, R2 increased from 0.791 to 0.977 by 23.5%, and RMSE decreased from 0.132 to 0.029 by 78.0%. In the case of RF, R2 increased from 0.767 to 0.938 by 22.3%, and RMSE decreased from 0.140 to 0.050 by 64.3%.
$Li_2Sr_{1-x}Eu_xSiO_{4-{\alpha}}N_{\alpha}$ ($Li_2SrSiO_{4-{\alpha}}N_{\alpha}:Eu^{2+}$) phosphors were synthesized by using a solid state reaction (SSR) method with submicron $Si_3N_4$ and nano $Si_3N_4$ powders as the sources of Si and N, and the optical properties of those phosphors were studied. The studied phosphors showed efficient excitation characteristics over the broad range from 230 to 530 nm. Also, They showed broad emission spectra covering a range from 500 to 700 nm, with a peak at 568 nm, which was shifted longer wavelength by 18 nm as compared with that of commercial $YAG:Ce^{3+}$. Combined with a 450 nm blue LED chip, the results support the application of the $Li_2SrSiO_{4-{\alpha}}N_{\alpha}:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor as a luminescent material for a white-light source thaat is warmer than the commercial $YAG:Ce^{3+}$ white-light source. In addition, the $Li_2SrSiO_{4-{\alpha}}N_{\alpha}$ phosphors prepared from a submicron $Si_3N_4$ powder was found to emit a previously unreported self-activated luminescence in $Li_2SrSiO_{4-{\alpha}}N_{\alpha}$.

This study has attempted to use ozone for the treatment of skin diseases as research results that ozonated olive oil has an excellent therapeutic effect on skin diseases are known. However, there is hardly any accurate data in Korea. Usually, animal tests related to cosmetics are not performed, but toxicity tests were conducted because they were absolutely necessary. In general, there are not many cases of measuring actual data through animal tests for the purpose of confirming the performance of cosmetics, but in the case of toxicity tests, it is recommended to accurately measure skin reactions, so this experiment was conducted. In this experiment, in order to evaluate the skin irritation of ozonated oil (high concentration) on the rabbit, the test substance was applied to the back of the rabbit for 24 hours, and then mortality, general symptoms and skin irritation were evaluated. Experimental Results As a result of evaluating the treatment site of the test substance after a certain period of time, no skin irritation was observed in all animals.

In various industrial fields and infrastructure based on electronic components, such as communication equipment, transportation, computer networks, and military equipment, the need for electromagnetic pulse shielding has increased. Two methods for applying electromagnetic pulse shielding are effective. The first is construction using shielding materials, such as shielding concrete, shielding doors, and shielding windows. The other is coating shielding paints on non-shielding structures. Electromagnetic pulse shielding paints are made using conductive materials, such as carbon nanotubes, graphite, carbon black, and carbon fiber. In this paint, electromagnetic pulse shielding performance is added to the commonly used water-based paint. In this study, the shielding effectiveness and bonding performance of paints using conductive graphite and carbon black as shielding materials were evaluated to develop electromagnetic pulse shielding inorganic paints. The shielding effectiveness and bonding performance were evaluated by applying six mixtures composed of different kinds and amounts of shielding material. The mixture of conductive graphite and carbon black at a weight ratio of 1:0.2 was the most effective in shielding as 33.6 dB. Furthermore, the mixture produced using conductive graphite only showed the highest bonding performance of 1.06 MPa.
In this study, the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, anti-obesity properties, of Sargassum macrocarpum extracts were identified to assess the availability of Sargassum macrocarpum extracts as cosmetics and foods. To measure antioxidant activity, we conducted TPC, TFC, DPPH, ABTS, NO, FRAP. For polyphenols, 30.81±1.12 mg/g was shown. Flavonoids showed 25.72±0.94 mg/g. The DPPH experiment showed an antioxidant function of 6.746 mg ascorbic acid/g extract, the ABTS experiment showed an antioxidant function of 15.59 mg ascorbic acid/g extract, and the NO experiment showed an antioxidant function of 6.781 mg ascorbic acid/g extract. In FRAP, 1 mg of the Sargassum macrocarpum extract showed a reduction of 4.573±0.097 ㎍ of ascorbic acid. In cytotoxicity experiments, Sargassum macrocarpum extracts showed a cell survival rate of more than 80% at all concentrations, and an inflammatory inhibition of 25.95±0.85%, and an lipid accumulation inhibition of 29.75±2.35%. These results indicate that Sargassum macrocarpum extract is available as an anti-inflammatory cosmetic and anti-obesity inner beauty material. In future studies, it is necessary to study how pure substances containing Sargassum macrocarpum extract affect antioxidants, anti-inflammatory and anti-obesity
To test bee pollen as an ingredient for heat-processed foods, bee pollen was puffed under heat at various pressures and examined for its physicochemical properties and antioxidant activities. As the puffing intensity increased, the browning index, total reducing capacity, and DPPH radical scavenging activity of the bee pollen increased significantly (p<0.001). This was attributed to the formation of Maillard reaction products during the puffing process. The wheat flour-puff yeot-gangjeong added with puffed bee pollen showed significantly (p<0.01) higher antioxidant activities than its counterpart with raw bee pollen. In addition, the gangjeong retained the physicochemical characteristics of the puffed bee pollen such as color, soluble solids, titratable acidity, and pH. The results showed that the puffed bee pollen could potentially be used as an ingredient in thermally processed foods and retain its superior antioxidant properties.
