식품의약품안전청은 국제기준과의 조화를 통한 기구 및 용기 포장의 안전 확보를 위하여 기구 및 용기 포장 제조 시에 사용되는 원료유래 유해물질에 대한 안전기준 신설 및 불순물로 혼입될 우려가 있는 유해 중금속에 대한 재질규격을 신설했다. 이번 개정 내용은 ${\triangle}$ 합성수지제에 대한 안전기준 강화 ${\triangle}$ 고무제, 셀로판, 종이제 및 전분제에 대한 안전기준 강화 ${\triangle}$ 일부 합성수지제의 시험방법 및 셀로판 등의 정의 개정 등을 내용으로 담고 있다. 주요 내용을 살펴보도록 한다.

The objectives of this study were to investigate the contamination of the soils around the major roadsides in Seoul and to accumulate base-line data. Fifty topsoils ($0{\sim}5$ cm) and 48 subsoils ($20{\sim}50$ cm) were collected from 50 sampling sites near Manguro in Chungnanggu. The samples were air-dried, passed through 2-mm sieves, and analyzed to determine the physicochemical properties and the contents of heavy metals (Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn) and anions (Cl, $NO_3$, $SO_4$). Soil textures of top- and subsoils were mainly loamy sand and sandy loam, respectively. Average $_PH$ of top- and subsoil was approximately 7.5, much higher than that of the forest soils in Seoul. Average heavy metal contents were lower than the levels allowed by the Soil Environment Conservation Act of Korea, whereas much higher than those of the forest soils. Contents of some heavy metals were higher than the maximum allowed levels. Anion concentrations were also much higher than those of the forest soils. A careful management to prevent the aggravation of the present contamination level and the diffusion of contaminants is recommended.

The soil samples were measured at 90 sites of Soil's Network In 1997~1998 which was established for the investigation of soil contamination in Seoul. This study was more focused to measure and analyze for BTEX(Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene and Xylene) concentration in the Soil Network. Also, the samples were analyzed by Purge & Trap method. As a result, the BTEX were detected at all sampling sites in Seoul. The Min. Max and Mean BTEX concentration were respectively 0.047mg/kg, 2.618mg/kg and 0.437mg/kg in 1998. The concentration of the BTEX detected at all sampling sites was lower than that of the intervention standards(at industrial areas) of Soil Preservation Act.

식품의약품안전청은 "식품위생법" 제9조 제1항에 따른 "기구 및 용기 포장의 기준 및 규격"을 일부 개정함에 있어 국민에게 미리 알려 의견을 수렴하고자 그 취지 및 주요내용을 공고했다. 식약청은 국제기준과의 조화를 통한 기구 및 용기 포장의 안전 확보를 위하여 기구 및 용기 포장 제조 시에 사용되는 원료 유래 유해물질에 대한 안전기준 신설 및 불순물로 혼입될 우려가 있는 유해 중금속에 대한 재질규격 신설한다고 밝혔다. 본 고에서는 주요 내용 및 일부 개정 고시안을 살펴보도록 한다.

본 연구에서는 현재 사용 종료된 매립지 재사용을 위해 정비를 실시 중인 전국 매립지 중에서 충남 공주시 금홍동에 위치한 사용 종료된 매립지를 대상으로 하여 사업 지구 및 그 주변지역의 환경질 평가를 위하여 토양에 관한 오염도 조사를 실시하였다. 시료는 매립지 내 1개 지점과 주변 논 2개 지점, 밭 1지점으로 총 4개 지점에서 채취하였다. 토양시료의 분석항목은 토양환경보전법에서 제시하는 총 11개 항목으로 하였으며, 실험방법은 토양오염공정시힘방법에 준하여 실시하였다. 실험결과 토양환경보전법상 농경지에 대한 우려기준과 비교하여 전 항목이 기준에 크게 미치지 못하는 것으로 나타났다. 토양질의 면에서 된다면 이 매립지 부지는 일반적인 용도의 토지로써 사용이 가능하다고 사료된다.

누구나 아름워지고자 하는 욕구가 있다. 보톡스는 미인이 만들어 준 일등공신이다. 그러나 지나친 남용과 부작용의 문제와 함께 인위적인 방법으로 없앤다는 점에서 개성보다 일률적인 미의 기준을 선호하게 되지 않을까 우려되기도 한다. 삶의 길이를 느끼게 하고 독특한 멋을 가진 주름살에 대한 의미를 다시 한번 생각해 봐야 할 것이다.

청소년을 대하는 기성인의 기준은 자신들의 우려와 두려움의 표현이 아닌가 싶다. 부모 스스로 이해할 수 없다는 두려움이 내재된 것은 아닌지. 청소년, 그들을 이해하고 그들과 함께 하는 방법은 더 잘할수 있고 잘하고 있다는 믿음으로 기다려 주는 것이다.

The quantity of heavy metals in agricultural surface and subsurface soils around coal-fired power plants located in Samcheonpo and Hadong, Gyeongnam Province, were determined. The analytical results for 48 and 61 soils in Samcheonpo and Hadong, respectively, showed that the concentrations of Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb, and Zn were below the warning criteria regulated by Korean Soil Conservation Act; however, Cd in 38 and 13 soils in Samcheonpo and Hadong, respectively, exceeded the criterion. As a result of calculation of the geoaccumulation index and the enrichment factor, the soils were extremely contaminated with Cd and such high loading of Cd to the soils was due to anthropogenic source(s). Sequential extraction of the soils, however, showed that heavy metals including Cd existed as hardly extractable phases, which represented a low bioavailability of the heavy metals. Our results indicated that Cd contamination around the coal-fired power plants was due to artificial source(s) and may unlikely deteriorate nearby ecosystems.

In most mammals, mature oocyte-cumulus complexer(OCCs) ovulate into the oviduct where fertilization by sperm takes place. However, the complex that fail to fertilize eventually undergoes degeneration while they reside in the oviduct. Yet there is no blown mechanism how both oocyte and cumulus cells degenerate. Using human follicular fluid (hFF), bovine oviductal tissue extract (BOX) and mouse OCC, the present study aimed to find how the oviduct influence the viability of the oocyte and cumulus cells in vitro. There was no difference of oocyte maturation rate between the control and BOX-treated groups. However, there was a significant difference in the survival of cumulus cells between two groups. Cumulus cells cultured in the presence of hFF alone underwent initially expansion and then they formed monolayer in the culture dish. Even after 72 hr, they proliferated well and showed fibroblast-like morphology. Cumulus cells cultured in the presence of both hFF and BOX also expanded after 24 hr, however, after 72 hr culture, they eventually detached and degenerated. Cumulus cells cultured in the BOX alone gave a similar drastic result. When the cumulus cells cultured in the presence of BOX were stained with DAPI, their nuclei showed partial condensation and fragmentation. After detailed analysis of these cells by TUNEL assay, many nuclei of them exhibited well stained spots indicating the signs of apoptosis. Based upon these observations, it is suggested that BOX might possess a factor that leads mouse cumulus cells to undergo apoptosis in vitro.
