A Numerical Study of the Effect of Casting Temperature and Rotational Frequency of Mold on the Functionally Graded Microstructure in Centrifugal Casting of Hyper-eutectic Al-Si Alloy (과공정 Al-Si합금의 원심주조시 용탕온도와 금형회전수가 경사기능 조직에 미치는 영향에 대한 해석적 고찰)

  • Functionally graded microstructure of centrifugal cast Al-Si alloy, especially distribution of primary Si particles according to the changes of melt pouring temperature and rotation frequency was investigated by numerical simulation. Moving velocity of Si particles increased as the melt pouring temperature and rotational frequency of mold increased. Therefore, segregation tendency of primary Si particles toward inner side of cylindrical sample increased as the melt pouring temperature and rotational frequency of mold increased. Rich distribution region of particles was located at 0.9, 0.7, 0.4 mm from inner surface of cylindrical sample under the centrifugal cast condition of $750^{\circ}C$ melt pouring temperature and 1500, 2000 and 2500 rpm mold rotational frequencies, respectively, by numerical simulation.

Electronical Property of BSCCO Tube Fabricated by Centrifugal Melting Process (원심 용융 성형공정으로 제조된 BSCCO 튜브의 전기적 특성)

  • 전력에 큰 손실을 초래하는 고장전류를 차단하기 위한 한류기(FCL) 소재로서 고온 초전도체인 BSCCO 2212가 사용된다. 고온에서 용융된 BSCCO 2212 분말은 원심성형법에 의해 한류기용 튜브로 제조되었다. BSCCO 튜브의 기계적 특성을 높이고 용융온도를 낮추기 위해 $SrSO_4$(10wt-%)를 첨가하였다. 용탕은 $1200^{\circ}C$에서 완전히 용융되어 금속 몰드로 주입되었고 원심성형에 사용되는 금속 몰드는 $550^{\circ}C$ 온도로 2시간 예열 후 1020 ~ 2520 RPM으로 회전시켰다. 원심력에 의해 성형된 BSCCO 튜브는 약 48시간 동안 로에서 서냉 후 금속 몰드로부터 분리하였다. 튜브의 용이한 분리를 위해 이형제로서 BSCCO 2212 powder를 사용하였고 임계전류측정을 고려하여 Ag tape 단자를 튜브 끝단에 부착하였다. BSCCO 제조 공정에 있어서 몰드의 예열온도, 용융온도, 몰드 회전속도 등의 변수를 조절하여 최적의 조건을 확립하였다. 제조한 BSCCO 튜브의 임계전류($I_c$)와 임계전류밀도($J_c$)는 77K에서 536A와 $205A/cm^2$ 이었다. 본 연구에서는 BSCCO 2212 튜브를 제조하는 공정조건 변화와 각 조건에서 제조된 BSCCO 2212 튜브의 전기적 특성 및 그에 따른 분석에 대해 기술하였다.

Fabrication Process and Impact Characteristic Analysis of Metal Matrix Composite for Electronic Packaging Application (전자패키징용 금속복합재료의 제조공정 해석 및 충격특성평가)

  • This study developed fabrication process of $SiC_p/Al$ metal matrix composites as electronic packaging materials by squeeze casting method. The $SiC_p$ preform were fabricated in newly designed preform mold using about 0.8 % of inorganic binder(SiO$_2$) and 5 vol.% of $Al_2O_3$fiber. To infiltrate the molten metal into the preform, fabrication condition such as the temperature and the pressure were selected. Applying the fabrication conditions, heat transfer analysis were preformed using finite element method and thus analyzed the temperature distribution and cooling characteristic during the squeeze casting. For the fabricated composites, impact toughness and thermal expansion coefficient were measured. The metal matrix composites developed in this study have 0.2~0.3 J impact toughness, $8~10 ppm/^{\circ}C$ thermal expansion coefficient and $2.9~3.0g/cm^3$density which is appropriate properties for electronic packaging application.

  • Al계 베어링합금은 소착저항력등의 베어링특성이 우수하여 최근에 자동차의 엔진부품에 많이 사용되고 있다. Al계 베어링합금으로는 Al-Sn계, Al-Pb계, Al-Si계 합금이 개발되어 사용되어 왔다. Al-Si계 합금은 높은 강도, 우수한 부식성, 주조성이 향상되는 장점등을 갖고 있다. 또한 Al-Pb계 합금은 Pb가 고체윤활제로 작용하여 소착저항성이 높으며 가격도 저렴한 장점을 갖고 있다. Al과 Pb는 용융상태에서 넓은 용융간극을 갖어 중력편석을 일으키기 때문에 일반적인 주조방법으로 Al계 베어링합금을 제조할 수없다. 또한 Al에 Si이 첨가됨에 따라 높은 경도등의 기계적성질의 향상이 얻어지지만 Al 기지에 Si의 함량이 증가할 수록 편석이 심해져 조대한 Si-rich상이 미세조직에 존재하여 합금이 취약해지는 단점을 갖고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 Al 기지에 Pb의 중력편석을 최소화하고 Al 기지에 조대한 Si-rich상이 생성되는 것을 막기 위하여 Al과 Pb가 공존하는 온도구역에서 높은 교반속도로 용탕을 강제교반하여 액상에서 Pb와 Si을 미세하게 분산시킨 후 수냉되는 동주형에서 급속응고시켜 Pb와 Si-rich 상이 균일하게 분포된 Al계 베어링합금을 제조하였다. 본 연구에서는 Pb의 양을 0%에서 35%까지 변화시켰으며, Si의 양을 0%에서 20%까지 변화시켜서 베어링합금을 제조하였으며, 강제교반속도는 500rpm에서 2500rpm 까지 변화시켜 베어링합금을 제조하였다.

Recovery of Tin from Tin Oxide Resulted from Glass Manufacturing Process by Pyrometallurgy (유리생산공정 폐주석산화물에서 건식제련에 의한 주석회수기술)

  • Most of the domestic need for tin rely on imports. In this work, a pyrometallurgical process was investigated to recover pure tin from the tin oxides in tin bath which results from the production of flat glass and LCD panel. From the results on the effect of reaction temperature, the highest recovery percentage of tin was obtained at $1350^{\circ}C$. The recovery percentage of tin was improved to 88% by employing the first and second smelting step. Electrorefining of the crude tin thus obtained led to pure tin with purity higher than 99.9%.

VR Visualization of Casting Flow Simulation (주물 유동해석의 VR 가시화)

  • In this research we present a method to reconstruct the casting flow simulation result as a 3D model and visualize it on a VR display. First, numerical analysis of heat flow is performed using an existing commercial CAE simulation software. In this process the shape of the original design model is approximated to a regular rectangular grid. The filling ratio and temperature of each voxel are recorded iteratively by predefined number of steps starting from pouring the melted metal into a mold until it is entirely filled. Next we reconstruct the casting by voxels using the simulation result as an input. The color of voxel is determined by mapping the colors to temperature and filling ratio at each step as the flow proceeds. The reconstructed model is visualized on the Projection Table which is one of horizontal-type VR display. It provides active stereoscopic images.

  • During sand casting, the binders produces gases in cores because high temperature molten metals dissolve the binders into gases and causes gas defects in the casting products. In the present study, quantitative analysis of inorganic binder gas generation was performed using Thermo Gravimetry (TG) and Mass Spectrometer (MS) analyses. The specimen was prepared using organic binders in liquid and solid state, and a mixture of sand and binders. Moisture loss by catalysts was calculated by TG results from liquid and solid binder specimens; it was found that components of gases were different. Quantitative analysis was discussed for generated gases with individual gas component results obtained using TG and MS. It is expected that gas generation can be predicted in the casting simulation using the technique proposed in the present study.

IoT-Based Device Utilization Technology for Big Data Collection in Foundry (주물공장의 빅데이터 수집을 위한 IoT 기반 디바이스 활용 기술)

  • With the advent of the fourth industrial revolution, the interest in the internet of things (IoT) in manufacturing is growing, even at foundries. There are several types of process data that can be automatically collected at a foundry, but considerable amounts of process data are still managed based on handwriting for reasons such as the limited functions of outdated production facilities and process design based on operator know-how. In particular, despite recognizing the importance of converting process data into big data, many companies have difficulty adopting these steps willingly due to the burden of system construction costs. In this study, the field applicability of IoT-based devices was examined by manufacturing devices and applying them directly to the site of a centrifugal foundry. For the centrifugal casting process, the temperature and humidity of the working site, the molten metal temperature, and mold rotation speed were selected as process parameters to be collected. The sensors were selected in consideration of the detailed product specifications and cost required for each process parameter, and the circuit was configured using a NodeMCU board capable of wireless communication for IoT-based devices. After designing the circuit, PCB boards were prepared for each parameter, and each device was installed on site considering the working environment. After the on-site installation process, it was confirmed that the level of satisfaction with the safety of the workers and the efficiency of process management increased. Also, it is expected that it will be possible to link process data and quality data in the future, if process parameters are continuously collected. The IoT-based device designed in this study has adequate reliability at a low cast, meaning that the application of this technique can be considered as a cornerstone of data collecting at foundries.

A Study on the Microstructure and Fatigue Properties of TiNi/A16061 Shape Memory Composite (TiNi/A16061 형상기억복합재료의 미세조직 및 피로특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this study TiNi/A16061 shape memory composite is introduced as one of new material using a shape memory alloy. High tensile strength of composite due to compressive residual stress in matrix by the shape memory effect of TiNi fiber can be produced. This composite can remove the tensile residual stress by the difference of coefficients of thermal expansion between fiber and matrix. one of the significant weak point of metal matrix composite. In this paper, shape memory composites are made by squeeze casting. And then, microstructure and fatigue properties of the composites by shape memory effect above inverse transformation temperature A, of TiNi alloy are discussed. The results of the fatigue crack control properties of TiNi/A16061 shape memory composite by a squeeze casting are summarized as follows the effect of fatigue crack propagation control at 363K increases according to the increase of volume fraction and prestrain in composites.

Effect of Initial Solidification Condition During Directional Solidification on the Grain Growth and the Tensile Properties of Superalloy CM247LC (초내열합금 CM247LC의 조직 및 인장특성에 미치는 초기 일방향응고 조건의 영향)

  • Initial solidification condition during directional solidification of superalloy CM247LC was controlled with various cooling methods such as insertion of alumina disc or Ni foil or inoculant, and direct pouring of melt onto chill plate. Rapid cooling with direct pouring of melt onto chill plate resulted in generation of many fine grains and precipitation of fine γ' particles, as well as small dendrite arm spacing. Tensile properties of directionally solidified superalloy CM247LC were closely related to microstructure which was governed by initial solidification conditions. Directionally solidified CM247LC with small dendrite arm spacing and fine precipitates showed good tensile properties.
