This study was programmed to fabricate a beam-to-column connection that is limited to a steel-welded moment connection with full-scale members, using SN steel. A cyclic seismic test was conducted of the nine specimens that were fabricated by choosing the test variable for the weld access hole geometry, connection design method, and RBS. From the test results, failure modes, the moment-drift behavior, and the strain distribution were provided. From the specimen material properties, the beam's nominal plastic flexural capacity and classified qualified connection as a special moment flame were calculated. By analyzing the skeleton part and the baushinger part, a range of strength-raising effects, and deformation ratios were provided, with which the seismic performance of the specimens were evaluated. The test results showed that the specimens eliminated their weld access holes that demonstrated higher seismic performance than the specimens' existing weld access holes, and that the WUF-W connection that was reinforced by the supplemental fillet weld around the shear tap that was fastened by five bolts demonstrated superior seismic performance.

In order to obtain the necessary data for the safety maintenance, repair, and reinforcement of steel structures, experiment was carried out to examine the mechanical capacity and toughness variation for steel with service history and without. In this paper, hardening and embrittlement by fatigue accumulation, and the decrease of toughness was examined and weld that was commonly used as the connection method of steel structure was also examined. It was found that hardening and embrittlement have more effect on the decrease of toughness than the increase of strength. Such a tendency was also similary state in case of weld. And it was found that, in the weld of steel with service history and without, embrittlement was observed at normal temperature.

In this study, a series of fatigue tests are performed in order to estimate quantitatively the characteristics of fatigue crack growth rate according to the base metal, heat affected zone(HAZ) and weld metal, and the welding method and grade of strength of object steels, and the influence on fatigue crack growth rate according to the direction of welded line for high strength steels of SM570, POSTEN60, and POSTEN80 steels. From the fatigue test results, the retardations of fatigue crack growth rate are remarkable in case that the direction of notch is parallel to welded line than in case that the direction of notch is perpendicular to welded line because of compresive residual stress in weld metal & HAZ. And the characteristics of fatigue crack growth rate according to welding method are that the dispersion of fatigue crack growth rate in case of FCAW method is smaller than that of SAW method. Also, it knows that the fatigue crack growth rate converges in high stress intensity factor range. Meanwhile, fatigue safety is guaranteed sufficiently in the object steels because the fatigue crack growth rate in the range of fatigue crack propagation has a similar tendency to the test results & existing results.

FCAW is used mainly in the welding of carbon steel and alloy steel because it can be welded in all positions and can obtain excellent quality at sites with variable working conditions. Recently, many studies in Korea have estimated the fatigue strength, residual stress, and deformation, and to develop a fillet welding process. On the other hand, there have been few studies of the mechanical properties based on the strength, macro and magnetic particle test results for fillet welding. This study shows the following results through fillet welding, macro testing and strength testing using SM490A (solid-structure rolled steel) for thick plates using SS400 (rolled steel) for the upper plate and FCAW. The hardness test, macro test and magnetic particle test were then conducted. The hardness tests showed that all result values were smaller than the KS B 0893 standard values of 350Hv. The macro-test showed that each type of welded part was in a normal organic state and that there were no internal errors, bubbles, or impurities on the front of the welded part. Therefore, there were no concerns about lamination. The magnetic particle examination showed no problems.

$CO_2$ welding is used widely in the field. On the other hand, welding defects occur when welders cannot adjust the current and voltage needed for welding and have to stop working to adjust the current and voltage, causing sudden cooling down of the welding structure inside a vehicle or tank where the control panel is invisible or when work site is far. This study used three types of existing $CO_2$ welders. This also applied SS400 rolled steel for welding structural purposes for remote control torch welding, perform a welding test through v-groove butt welding with a remote control torch and existing $CO_2$ welding torch, conducted visual inspection on the appearance of a welded top bead. In addition, the appearance quality of the welding part was monitored mainly through penetrant testing and a bending test to evaluate the welding defect reduction and the effect on the performance and compatibility by replacing the existing welder.
Many researches on the application of stainless steels as structural steels have been performed thanks to their material properties such as superior ductility and corrosion resistance. Ferritic stainless steels(STS430) with little or no nickel have been used increasingly in building structure because it is inexpensive compared to austenitic stainless steels(STS304) with nickel, but provide performances similar to the austenitic stainless steel. This paper deals with block shear fracture behavior of base metal in stainless steel welded connection. Although the block shear fracture behavior for welded connection due to stress triaxiality is different from that of bolted connection, the block shear strength of welded connection in current design specifications has been predicted based on that of bolted connection. The main parameters are weld length and welding process(Arc and TIG welds). The ultimate strengths of TIG welded specimens were higher than those of arc welded specimens and current design predictions by AISC, EC3 etc. were compared with test strengths.

In this study, a standard tensile welded-joint test was conducted to select a welding electrode suitable for recently developed HSA800 steel. Two welding electrodes were available at the time of this study; one was GMAW-based and the other FCAW-based. The tensile test specimens were fabricated by joining 60mm-thick HSA800 plates according to the AWS-prequalified groove welded joint details. Specimens which violate the standard root opening distance (ROD) were also included to see if poor construction tolerance could be accommodated. During fabrication, serious concerns about the welding efficiency of the GMAW-based product were raised by a certified welder. Both welding electrodes showed satisfactory and similar performance from welded joint strength perspective. But groove welded joints made by using the FCAW-based rod consistently showed more ductile and stable behavior. The AISC provisions for PJP joint strength were shown to be very conservative under direct tensile loading. Violating the AWS prequalified ROD by 100% apparently passed the strength criteria, but unusual crater-like fracture surface was observed.
The mechanical properties such as 0.2% and 1% offset proof strength and elastic modulus are essential for a structural steel structure when the structure would be evaluated and designed to identify the performance of the structural stability exposed to fire condition. To obtain the mechanical properties for the structural steels at high temperature which are consisted of ordinary and marine ones, the tensile tests at various high temperatures had been conducted with two kinds of specimen of general structural steel SS 400 and welded steel SM 490 at the range of room temperature to $900^{\circ}C$ at interval of $100^{\circ}C$.

High performance steel for bridges requires higher performance in tensile and yield strength, toughness, weldability, etc. The purpose of this study is to investigate the weldability of HSB 600 steel. The effects of heat input (1.4~3.2kJ/mm) and postweld heat treatment (PWHT, $600^{\circ}C$, 40hr.) on the TMCP HSB600 steel weldments made by GMAW process were investigated. The tensile strength and hardness of as-welded specimens decreased with increasing heat input. Charpy V-notch impact energy did not show any significant difference by postweld heat treatment. The fine-grained acicular ferrite was mainly formed in the 2.1kJ/mm of heat input while polygonal and side plate ferrites were dominated in the high inputs. Meanwhile, tensile strength and hardness of PWHT weldments decreased due to the coarsening and globularization of ferrite microstructure and reduction of residual stresses with increasing heat inputs. However, there was no significant difference in the impact energy absorption.
Column tests subjected to compressive loading were carried out for the estimation of compression buckling strength of steel plate SM570 in beam-column member under high axial load. It was found that the maximum strength of column member was determined by local buckling when satisfied with a limit of width-to-thickness ratio in current steel structure design specifications, but decreased suddenly by local buckling before the maximum strength in case of not satisfying with that ratio. Also, the compression buckling strength of SM570 plate was higher than the design specification value of 4$4.1tonf/cm^2$.
