Finite Element Analysis on Polyethylene Gas Pipes under External Loadings (폴리에틸렌 가스배관의 외부 하중에 대한 유한요소 해석)

  • Polyethylene(PE) pipes have been widely used as they are easy to construct and suitable for economical efficient when they are compared with metal pipelines. This paper studied the effect of various external loadings on stress and deflection of the buried PE pipes using Finite Element Method(FEM). For this purpose, stresses of buried PE pipes were calculated according to the loading condition such as pipe types(pipe diameter $50{\sim}400mm$), burial depths($0.6{\sim}1.2m$) and internal pressures($0.4{\sim}4bar$). As a result, it was founded the effect and relation with each of loading conditions under the buried condition.

  • In this study, a basic study was carried out on the external strengthening method of public buildings. A steel damper is installed outside the specimen with a rocking wall and connected to the frame. Two specimens were fabricated, and the non-reinforced specimens utilized the existing results. As a result of evaluating the envelope curve, strength, stiffness and energy dissipation capacity, it was evaluated that the strength enhancement of the RW_P specimen externally reinforced plate damper was evaluated to be excellent. In addition, RW_S specimens with external S type damper shows a gentle envelop curve after maximum load, and it can be confirmed that the damper properly dissipates the seismic energy.

  • The structural behavior of continuous reinforced concrete deep beams is mainly controlled by the mechanical relationships associated with the shear span-to-effective depth ratio, flexural reinforcement ratio, load and support conditions, and material properties. In this study, a simple indeterminate strut-tie model which reflects characteristics of the complicated structural behavior of the continuous deep beams is presented. In addition, the reaction and load distribution ratios defined as the fraction of load carried by an exterior support of continuous deep beam and the fraction of load transferred by a vertical truss mechanism, respectively, are proposed to help structural designers for the analysis and design of continuous reinforced concrete deep beams by using the strut-tie model approaches of current design codes. In the determination of the load distribution ratio, a concept of balanced shear reinforcement ratio requiring a simultaneous failure of inclined concrete strut and vertical steel tie is introduced to ensure a ductile shear failure of reinforced concrete deep beams, and the primary design variables including the shear span-to-effective depth ratio, flexural reinforcement ratio, and concrete compressive strength are implemented after thorough parametric numerical analyses. In the companion paper, the validity of the presented model and load distribution ratio was examined by applying them in the evaluation of the ultimate strength of multiple continuous reinforced concrete deep beams, which were tested to failure.

Structural Static Test for Validation of Structural Integrity of Fuel Pylon under Flight Load Conditions (비행하중조건에서 연료 파일런의 구조 건전성 검증을 위한 구조 정적시험)

  • An aircraft component can only be mounted on an aircraft if it has been certified to have a structural robustness under flight load conditions. Among the major components of the aircraft, a pylon is a structure that connects external equipment such as an engine, and external attachments with the main wing of an aircraft and transmits the loads acting on it to the main structure of the aircraft. In civil aircraft, when there is an incident of fire in the engine area, the pylon prevents the fire from spreading to the wings. This study presents the results of structural static tests performed to verify the structural robustness of a fuel pylon used to mount external fuel tank in an aircraft. In the main text, we present the test set-up diagram consisting of test fixture, hydraulic pressure unit, load control system, and data acquisition equipment used in the structure static test of the fuel pylon. In addition, we introduce the software that controls the load actuator, and provide a test profile for each test load condition. As a result of the structural static test, it was found that the load actuator was properly controlled within the allowable error range in each test, and the reliability of the numerical analysis was verified by comparing the numerical analysis results and the strain obtained from the structural test at the main positions of the test specimen. In conclusion, it was proved that the fuel pylon covered in this study has sufficient structural strength for the required load conditions through structural static tests.

Experimental Study on Flexural Behavior of PSC I Girder and the Effect of External Prestressing (PSC I합성 거더의 휨 거동 및 외부 강선 보강효과에 관한 실험 연구)

  • For the evaluation of the load carrying capacity of the deteriorated PSC I girder bridge in service load state and the verification of the grade to the reinforcement effect of actual bridge strengthened by external prestressing tendons, the field test using vehicles is applied widely. Because this teat was executed in elastic range, the investigation of the characteristics of behavior caused by live load is only available. And it is impossible to estimate load carrying capacity in limit state and nonlinear behavior after that a crack is appeared. In this study, the 27-year-old prestressed concrete girder bridge is used and various load tests are performed, so we evaluate the behavior characteristics of the bridge in service load state and ultimate load state, and estimate the load carrying capacity of bridge. In addition, the artificial damages are induced from cutting internal tendons, and external tendons is added to strengthen it as much as vanished internal tendons. Next we compare the damage state with the strengthening state. In case of the application of external prestressing method to PSC I girder bridge, the present experiment result may decide more exactly the load carrying capacity of actual bridge, the amount for reinforcement, and the standard of quality control etc. at reinforcement work.

Case Studies for Anlayzing Effects of Outriggers on Gravity Load Managements (아웃리거의 중력하중 조절 효과 분석을 위한 사례연구)

  • In high-rise buildings, an outrigger system is frequently used as a resisting system for lateral loads. Since the outriggers tie exterior columns and an interior core, exterior columns can participate in the lateral load resisting system and the structural resistance capacity can be increased. However, the outriggers contribute for controlling gravity loads as well as lateral loads. The flows of gravity loads can be changed by the members of outriggers, for the purposes of transferring loads to mega-columns, distributing gravity loads equally among vertical members of columns, walls, or piles, minimizing differential settlements in a foundation system, and so on. In this study, by computational structural analyses of high-rise buildings over 100 floors, the effects of outriggers on controlling gravity loads are analyzed. Analyses for 3-dimensional models with or without outrigger members are performed, and then the gravity load distributions in columns and piles and foundation settlements are analyzed. Also, the effects of outriggers on gravity load controls during construction stages as well as after construction are included.

  • 최근의 전자및 광학기기 분야에 있어서의 준부신 발전은 다면경 가공기나 초정밀 절삭, 연삭기와 같은 초정밀 가공기계의 개발과 실용화에 힘입은 바 크다. 이러한 초정밀 가공기의 성능을 좌우하는 핵심 요소로서 주축계를 들 수 있으며, 비교적 소형 경량의 공작물을 가공하는 기계의 주축용 베어링으로는 볼 베어링이나 오일 베어링을 대신하여 공기베어링이 점차 널리 사용되고 있다. 일반적으로 주축으로 사용되는 베어링은 원통형 레이디얼 베어링과 원판형 스러스트 베어링이 결합된 형식이 주류를 이루나 이러한 베어링은 스러스트 판과 축의 직가곧 가공오차가 존재하기 때문에 가공하기는 쉬우나 회전시에 의의 영향에 의해 회전 정밀도 유지가 어렵다는 단점을 지니고 있다. 이러한 단점을 보완하기 위하여 사용되는 베어링에는 원추형(conical) 베어링과 구면형(spherical) 베어링이 쓰이고 있다. 이러한 원추형 베어링과 구면형 베어링은 가공오차를 베어링과 축의 현압 연마로써 없애줄 수 있으며 베어링이 축방향 하중과 경방향 하중을 동시에 지지하여 줌으로써 기계 전체의 부피를 줄이고 회전 정밀도를 향상시켜 주는 것으로 알려져 있다. 그러나 구면의 베어링 간극을 정확히 가공하기 어려운 단점이 있어 축과 베어링을 현압연마하여 가공한 후에 두부품을 중심선상에서 분리시키므로써 요구되는 간극을 얻을 수 있는 원추형 베어링이 많이 쓰이고 있다. 본 연구에서는 직접 수치 해법을 이요하여 원추형 베어링의 유막내의 압력 분포를 계산하고 이 합력인 하중지지 용량이 축방향 하중과 경방향 하중을 지지하는 특성을 이론적으로 검토하여 외부 가압 원추형 베어링으 특성수를 파악하여 설계자료를 제시하고자 한다.

  • The external loads applied to a real structure may cause a severe damage and may eventually lead to total failure. It is thus the requirement that the structure must be designed to fulfil its safe function under any anticipated loads and must have the desired level of safety. The purpose of the present study is to propose a method of damage accumulation under seismic loadings to utilize it in the safety assessment of a reinforced concrete structure. To this end, the nonlinear hysteretic behavior of reinforced concrete structures is first modeled and the equivalent linearization technique is employed to solve numerically the probabilistic characteristics of response under random seismic loadings.

  • Strengthening method of steel-concrete composite bridges using external tendons has been found as one of the most effective techniques of reinforcement and its application is increasing. In this paper, experimental test was carried out to show the effects on the yield loading and ultimate loading of steel-concrete composite beams strengthened with various configurations of external tendons. Quantitative analysis is carried out to evaluate the effects of experimental variables such as tendon force, deviator, tendon eccentricity and the shape of strands.

  • 대형 구조물의 진동제어를 위하여 MR 유체 댐퍼를 사용한 반능동 제어기법에 대하여 연구하였다. 기존에 많이 사용되고 있는 수동제어기법은 일단 제어장치를 설치한 후에는 구조물에 실제로 작용하고 있는 외부 하중의 현재 특성에 대해서 적절히 반응할 수 없다는 제한을 가지고 있으며, 이를 극복하기 위하여 연구되어온 능동제어기법은 구조물이 진동을 감소시키기 위하여 구조물에 직접적으로 가해지는 커다란 제어력을 요구하며, 이로 인해 경우에 따라서는 불안정한 상태가 유발될 수도 있다는 점이 단점으로 지적되고 있다. 최근에 Spencer 등은 반능동 제어기법을 제안하였는데, 이는 수동제어장치의 제어특성을 On-Line 으로 조절하는 방식으로서 제어 가능한 수동제어기법으로도 불리운다. 구조물의 진동제어에 필요한 제어력이, 특수한 제어기구에서 발생되는 인위적인 힘이 아니라, 적절한 구조부재에서 발생되는 자연적인 부재력이므로, 무엇보다 강인하고 신뢰할 수 있는 제어기법이며, 이때 제어장치의 구조적 특성을, 측정된 구조물의 응답에 맞추어 적절히 조절함으로써 다양한 외부하중에 대해 보다 효율적인 제어가 이루어질 수 있도록 한 방법이다. 반능동제어를 위한 제어기로서는 Variable Orifice Dampers, Friction Controllable Isolators, Variable Stiffness Devices, Electro-Rheological (ER) Fluid Damper, Magneto-Rheological(MR) Fluid Damper등이 제안되고 있으며, 본 논문에서는 반응속도가 빠르고, 적은 파워만을 요구하며, 커다란 제어력을 낼 수 있는 MR Damper를 사용하여 지진하중을 받는 구조물의 반능동 제어게 대하여 연구하였다. MR Damper의 특성이 비선형이므로 이에 적합한 Sliding Mode Fuzzy Control(SMFC)기법을 사용하였으며 이때 SMFC 의 최적 설계를 위하여 Genetic Algorithm을 적용하였다. 제안된 제어기법의 실제 적용성을 검증하기 위하여 기존이 제어결과와 비교 검토하였으며, 그 결과로부터 MR Damper를 사용한 반능동 제어기법이 구조물의 진동제어에 매우 효과적임을 확인할 수 있었다.
