In recent years, the use of natural fiber as reinforcement in polymer composites to replace synthetic fiber such as glass fiber is receiving increasing attention. Because of increasing usage according to the high demand, the cost of thermoplastic has increased rapidly over the past decades. We used a thermoplastic polymer(polypropylene) as the matrix and a lignocellulosic material(rice-husk flour) as the reinforcement filler to prepare a particle-reinforced composite to examine the possibility of using lignocellulosic material as reinforcement filler and to determine data of test results for physical, mechanical and morphological properties of the composite according to the reinforcement filler content in respect to thermoplastic polymer, In this study, PLA/PP rice-husk fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites that made by the hot press molding method according to appropriate manufacturing process was evaluated as mechanical properties.

In this work, the SiC powders were synthesized through the carbonized matter from the mixture of silica powder and rice husks. The SiC powders, obtained from the carbothermal reduction reaction of silica and carbonized rice husks, were investigated by XRD patterns, XPS, FE-SEM and FE-TEM. In the XRD patterns, the specimens showed clearly very high strong peak of (111) plane near $35^{\circ}$ as well as weak (220) and (311) peak respectively at approximately $60^{\circ}$ and $72^{\circ}$. Under Ar atmosphere, the power synthesized from the mixture (in case of mixing ratio, 6 : 4) of carbonized rice husks and silica showed mainly cubic SiC crystalline phase showing relatively lower ratio of hexagonal phase without residual carbon in XRD pattern. In the TEM analysis, the specimen, synthesized from carbonized rice husks and silica with mixing ratio of 6 : 4 under Ar atmosphere, showed relatively fine particles under $5{\mu}m$ and a crystalline SiC phase of (100) diffraction pattern.
In commercial combustion systems, heavy oil is one of main hydrocarbon fuel because of its economical efficiency. Regarding heavy oil combustion, due to increasing concerns over environmental pollutants such as carbon monoxide, unburned hydrocarbon and nitrogen oxides, development of low pollutant emission methods has become an imminent issue for practical application to numerous combustion devices. Also a great amount of effort has been tried to developed effective methods for practical using of biomass. It is also an important issue to reduce carbon tax. In this paper, an experimental study has been conducted to evaluate the effect of biomass reburning on NOx formation in a heavy oil flamed combustion furnace. Experiments were performed in flames stabilized by a multi-staged burner, which was mounted at the front of the furnace. Experimental tests were conducted using air-carried rice husk powder and LNG as the reburn fuel and heavy oil as the main fuel. The paper reports data on flue gas emissions and temperature distribution in the furnace for several kinds of experimental conditions. NOx concentration in the exhaust has decreased considerably due to effect of reburning. The maximum NOx reduction rate was 62% when the rice husk was used by reburn fuel, however it was 59% when the LNG was used by reburn fuel. The result shows the positive possibility of biomass reburning system for optimal NOx reduction.

Recently, environmental problems have emerged as a major issue all over the world due to an increase in carbon dioxide(CO2). The amount of CO2 generated during cement production accounts for 6% to 8% of domestic CO2 emissions and a solution to reduce CO2 emissions the construction industry is trying to use mineral admixtures to reduce cement. Since digestion has no firing process the advantage of it is that there is no air pollution to occur. In this study, we studied the compressive strength of binary non-cement mortar containing rice husk powder extracted from digestion by the ratio of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%. As a result, the table flow was increased when the mixing rate of rice husk powder extracted from digestion was higher, and the highest compressive strength was shown when the rice husk powder extracted from digestion mixing rate was 10%.
As the first step of study on fabrication of ceramic powders from phytoliths in rice, especially in rice husks, pulverization method of rice husks and the properties of milled rice husks were investigated. Impact methods, such as ball milling, were not meaningful for pulverizing elastic and thin fabric structure of rice husks. The most effective one was cutting method. In the present work, a rotating knife cutting method was applied to pulverizing rice husks. A 40-mesh screen was inserted under the rotating knives. The most portion of the milled powder was found in -50/+100 mesh section. Morphology of the milled rice husks revealed that the husks larger than 70 mesh were flake-like shape, at -70/+100 mesh section relatively equi-axed shape, at -170/+325 mesh section rod-like shape, and below 325 mesh section dust-like shape. Tap density of raw rice husks was about 0.1 $g/cm^3$, while those of milled rice husks were over $0.4 g/cm^3$. This meant that, for a given volume of reactor, raw material charge can be increased more that 4 times when using milled rice husks than unmilled one. True densities of unmilled and milled rice husks were higher than $1.4 g/cm^3$, and increased with decreasing milled sizes.
The effects of rice hull (RH) powder on the anticarcinogenic activity of submerged-liquid cultures of Agaricus blazei Murill (AB) were assessed for mouse ascites cancers induced by mouse Sarcoma S-180 (S-180) cancer cells. Optimal growth of AB mycelia in the basal liquid culture medium, containing soybean meal, was achieved by culturing at $25^{\circ}C$ for 5 days, when evaluated by $\beta$-glucan content, Brix, and mycelial weight, relative to other culture conditions. Hot-water extract (HWE) of the submergedliquid culture of AB mycelia grown at $25^{\circ}C$ for 5 days exhibited a stronger anticarcinogenic activity, relative to HWE from other culture conditions. No such effects were obtained from AB mycelial cultures by alternative temperature-controlling cultures. Both cytotoxicity for S-180 cells and anticarcinogenic potentials for mouse ascites cancer of the HWE from AB mycelia grown in the basal medium containing 1% RH powder for 5 days at $25^{\circ}C$ were significantly (p<0.05) enhanced, relative to HWE from the AB mycelia culture of the basal medium without RH powder. These results indicate that HWE of submerged-liquid culture of AB mycelia, incubated in media containing 1% RH powder at $25^{\circ}C$ for 5 days, enhanced anticarcinogenic activity against S-180 cell-induced mouse ascites cancer, and suggest that RH powder is an excellent ingredient for the improvement of the anticarcinogenic potentials of the submerged-liquid culture of mushroom mycelia.
On the purpose of exploiting cellulose resourse which is needed for artificial diet of silkworms, mulberry branch, eastern cotton wood branch, pitch pine pulp, poplar pulp, chaff, sawdust and rice straw were examined. Among the matters above mentioned. mulberry branch and pitch pine pulp were found to be replaceable as cellulose component in the artificial diet. By means of some chemical treatments, it is found that one of the extracted cellulose powder from mulberry branches is more useful in the larval growth.
Biomass-based plastics containing the biomass content higher than 25 wt% have been considered as environment-friendly materials due to their effects on the reduction in the $CO_2$ emission and petroleum consumption as well as biodegradability after use. This article described the effect of the additions of oxo-biodegradable additive, 4 kinds of plant biomass, unsaturated fatty acid, citric acid in the properties of polyethylene films. Bio films were prepared using a variety of biomasses and tested for feasibility as a food packaging film. Mechanical properties such as tensile strength and percent elongation at break were evaluated. Husk biomasses from such as corn, soybean, rice, and wheat were pulverized using air classifying mill (ACM) and four different types of packaging films with thickness of $50{\mu}m$ were prepared using the pulverized biomass and low density polyethylene/linear low density polyethylene. The packaging film with wheat husk biomass was found to have greater mechanical properties of elongation and tensile strength than the other samples. Biodegradability of bio film was measured to be 51.5% compared to cellulose.
This study summarized processing factor (PF) by the stage of rice and barley processing based on JMPR reports from 2006 to 2016. We compared PF of 17 pesticides in rice products during the processing of rice grain, husked rice, polished rice, hulls, bran and cooked rice. Among the 17 pesticides, 12 pesticides except for 5 pesticides such as acephate, methamidophos, glufosinate, quinclorac and sulfoxaflor mostly decreased in pesticides when rice grain processed into brown rice. Pesticides tended to be partially reduced when processed from husked rice to polished rice. However, hulls and bran produced during the milling process were concentrated. Acephate and others, 5 pesticides are systemic pesticides, and pesticides are penetrated into foods, and a large amount of pesticides was not removed during the milling process. The remaining pesticide residues in polished rice were mostly removed after processing into cooked rice, and trace amounts of pesticide residues remained. In the comparison of 23 pesticides PF during the processing of barley products (pearl barley, flour, short, malt, beer, hulls and bran). Most of the pesticide except for 4 pesticide (ethephon, pyraclostrobin, penthiopyrad, sulfoxaflor), which are systemic pesticides, decreased during the process of pearl barley production out of the barley grain. The pesticide in the malt, which was made by steeping pearl barley was concentrated but when processed into beer, pesticide was remained only in trace amounts.

To improve the soil of reclaimed land, we added organic materials at a level of 3,000 kg/10 a. As a result, the electrical conductivity (EC) value of reclaimed soil decreased by 58%, the organic material content increased from 6.7 to 16.0 g/kg, the porosity increased from 1.57 to 1.31%, the soil hardness decreased from 20.2 to 17.9 mm and the plow layer was deepened from 19.8 to 26.8 cm. After these physiochemical improvements to the reclaimed soil, the growth phase of crops was improved compared to that of non-treatment crops. The height of kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) cultivated in the reclaimed land containing organic materials was increased by 18.8%. Especially, the improvement effects of pellet type manure compost and rice straw on kenaf were more preferable than those of other organic materials. When the kenaf was cultivated in the reclaimed land containing organic materials, the yield increased. The average yield of the treatment crops was 9,218 kg/10 a, 2.1 times higher than that of non-treatment crops. The most effective treatments to increase the yields were pellet type manure compost (10,848 kg/10 a, 148% increase), rice straw (120% increase) and chopped kenaf (95% increase). To increase the physicochemical enhancements to the reclaimed land soil and most improve yields, the most effective type of organic materials was the pellet. The organic material types that maintained a better growth phase and most increased the yield were the liquid and pellet types. When we used pellet type organic material, the plant height of kenaf was increased by 41% in comparison with that of the non-treatment crops and yield was increased by more than 122%. Additionally liquid type organic material improved the yield (by 127%).
