A Study on the Implementation of the On-Board Diagnostic Function on the Smart Phone and the Compatibility Test for Short-Range Wireless Communications (스마트폰 연동 차량의 온보드 고장진단 기능 구현과 근거리 무선통신 호환성 시험에 관한 연구)

  • By adding short-range wireless communication function such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to the last vehicle in conjunction with a smart phone, a modern automobile is becoming entertainment screen to determine a variety of information such as car location information, diagnosis information, etc. through the ECU vehicle electronic control unit. In this study, by utilizing short-range communications capability of the on-board diagnostic devices and smart phones in association with the on-board diagnostics, compatibility tests among a number of smart phone models, Bluetooth and NFC(Near Field Communication) were carried out and those results were analyzed. Furthermore, composition of on-board diagnostic device having Bluetooth and NFC interface function and the fault diagnosis function were implemented, and fault diagnosis debugging program was developed. In addition, fault diagnosis data of the vehicle via the OBD-II interface was extracted. Finally, the on-board diagnostics CAN Protocol implementation has been proposed, and the results of work was analyzed.

  • Currently, mobile handset embeds many communication modules including CDMA and Bluetooth, and many applications are developed based on these modules. In this paper, we study about wireless vehicle diagnosis software and user interface based on bluetooth system on mobile handset. We developed Bluetooth communication system on protocol converter between OBD(On Board Diagnostics)-II system. Based on this system, we can communicate ECU(Engine Control Unit) and mobile device based on windows .NET compact framework platform. Therefore we can easily diagnose vehicle state and obtain engine data. All user interface and vehicle diagnosis systems on mobile handset are developed under windows .NET compact framework platform. Using this system we achieved several improvements over existing vehicle diagnostic system; 1) the software download and upgrade can be achieve on wireless environment, 2) no additional diagnostic devices are requires, which saves additional cost and we can diagnose the vehicle easily, 3) we can easily port our system on many embedded systems including PDA and navigator, etc.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate and compare the impact of engine load on the emission characteristics of excavator engines, with the aim of improving the method for calculating the emission inventory of construction machinery. The engine load in excavators is directly correlated with the operational workload, and variations in the load factor (LF) can significantly influence the emission inventory. Thus, on-board diagnostic (OBD) data from an excavator at a construction site were systematically collected to measure engine output and emissions. The results revealed discernible differences in emissions based on engine load, even when the average excavator engine performance remained constant. This highlights the significant influence of the type and characteristics of the work being carried out on emission characteristics. Making realistic adjustments to the LF used in emission calculation formulas emerges as a crucial strategy for environmental improvement. Moreover, the analysis of the effects of engine load on emissions from excavators provides valuable insights for enhancing environmental protection measures.

  • Most cars today use electronic control to control the state of the engine to achieve optimum performance. This study developed a device for maintaining fault diagnosis and optimal vehicle status by displaying the engine information of a car on the screen in real time using can communication. This system displays information generated from the engine to the driver in real time such as engine intake and exhaust temperature, current battery voltage, tire pressure, RPM, DPF collection amount, torque, and horsepower through the OBD2 socket. You can check immediately. It can help you to drive safely by measuring tire pressure and displaying it on the screen, and it provides a mode to set the shift timing to suit your taste. In particular, in the case of diesel engine cars, the problems caused by smoke can adversely affect the performance and environmental pollution. Therefore, the system was developed to display the DPF collection amount on the system screen to prevent environmental pollution and to manage the vehicle efficiently.

  • In this paper, we developed a vehicle control terminal using IoT and low-power long-distance communication (NB-IoT) technology. This system collects information on the location and status of a parked vehicle, and transmits the vehicle status to the vehicle owner's terminal in real time with low power to prevent vehicle theft, and in the case of a vehicle in motion, When primary information about the vehicle, such as an impact, is collected and transmitted to the server, the server analyzes the relevant data to generate secondary information on traffic congestion, road damage, and safety accidents. By sending it, you can know the exact arrival time of the vehicle at its destination. This terminal device is an IoT gateway for a vehicle and can be connected to various wired and wireless sensors inside the vehicle. In addition, the data collected from vehicle maintenance, efficient operation, and vehicles can be usefully used in the private or public sector.

  • Although the biosignal is the best way to represent the human condition, it is difficult to acquire the biosignal of a driver driving for detecting driver's condition. As one of the methods to overcome this limitation, this paper proposes a driving stress monitoring system based on information provided by OBD-II(on-board diagnostics version II). The driving information and EDA(Electrodermal activity) data are obtained through the OBD-II scanner and E4 wristband, respectively. EDA data is used as ground truth to distinguish whether driver is stressed or not. MLP(multi-layer perceptron) neural network is used as a model to detect driving stress and is trained using driving data for about a month. To evaluate the proposed system, we used about 1 hour of driving data and the accuracy is 92%.

  • The use of cone-beam computed tomography(CBCT) has been proposed for guiding the delivery of radiation therapy. A kilovoltage imaging system capable of radiography, fluoroscopy, and cone-beam computed tomography(CT) has been integrated with a medical linear accelerator. A standard clinical linear accelerator, operating in arc therapy mode, and an amorphous-silicon (a-Si) with an on-board electronic portal imager can be used to treat palliative patient and verify the patient's position prior to treatment. On-board CBCT images are used to generate patient geometric models to assist patient setup. The image data can also, potentially, be used for dose reconstruction in combination with the fluence maps from treatment plan. In this study, the accuracy of Hounsfield Units of CBCT images as well as the accuracy of dose calculations based on CBCT images of a phantom and compared the results with those of using CT simulator images. Phantom and patient studies were carried out to evaluate the achievable accuracy in using CBCT and CT stimulator for dose calculation. Relative electron density as a function of HU was obtained for both planning CT stimulator and CBCT using a Catphan-600 (The Phantom Laboratory, USA) calibration phantom. A clinical treatment planning system was employed for CT stimulator and CBCT based dose calculations and subsequent comparisons. The dosimetric consequence as the result of HU variation in CBCT was evaluated by comparing MU/cCy. The differences were about 2.7% (3-4MU/100cGy) in phantom and 2.5% (1-3MU/100cGy) in patients. The difference in HU values in Catphan was small. However, the magnitude of scatter and artifacts in CBCT images are affected by limitation of detector's FOV and patient's involuntary motions. CBCT images included scatters and artifacts due to In addition to guide the patient setup process, CBCT data acquired prior to the treatment be used to recalculate or verify the treatment plan based on the patient anatomy of the treatment area.
