This article proposed a new online union catalog of children's material owned by children's libraries and public libraries in Korea. In order to meet users' information needs about children's material the existing access points in the online catalogs should be expanded including such information as children's age, type of publication, genre, subject, theme, book review, awarded books, and location. Since location information about a particular material is essential to users, a national online union catalog of children's material should be constructed.

The purpose of this study was to analyze and evaluate the characteristics of online catalogs' interface of children's libraries, and to propose how to design user-friendly interfaces. The online catalogs of 77 children's libraries which are registered on the National Library Statistics System as of December 2011 were analyzed. They are categorized into 7 types based on interface's characteristics. Such topics as the features of search methods, the record display formats, the terminology usage, and the special features of the 7 types were examined and discussed. Some shortcomings were examined and how to improve them was suggested.

Led by KIEP, this project to establish an Online Union Catalog System on Northeast Asia is the first such attempt to create a collaboration between social science libraries in Korea. This Online Union Catalog System is seen as a problem solving mechanism, as it helps to maximize efficiency in utilizing labor, finance, and data, by sharing library resources. This study focuses on the process of converting databases in a non-MARC format to a MARC format.

Discovery is an emerging concept to enhance the search capabilities of library resources with the Next Generation Library Catalog. This paper defined the Discovery feature based on the information search behavior, and then derived the elements that make up its function. After that, the 11 regional representatives libraries' OPACs and 3 Internet bookstores are evaluated and compared against Search & Discovery capabilities. As a result, the Internet bookstores were superior to the libraries' OPACs for all the elements that make up the Discovery functions. This study verified that the public libraries OPACs are still concentrating on known item search, and it is hard for the users to meet a serendipity which is gained through the Discovery functions.

The issue of the cataloging the electronic resources have been vigorously presented recently because of many problems involved in it. The study aims to examine the various formats of the electronic resources mainly centering around the internet as well as the need for cooperative cataloging of the resources. In addition, the study attempts to analyse the CORC of OCLC and the PCC of LC. Based on these, the cooperative cataloging system for online electronic resources in Korea is suggested.

This article focuses on a transaction log analysis of the DISCOVER online catalog user interface at Duksung Women's University Library. The results show that the most preferred access point is the title field with rate of 59.2%. The least used access point is the author field with rate of 11.6%. Keyword searching covers only about 16% of all access points used. General failure rate of searching is 13.9% with the highest failure rate of 19.8% in the subject field and the lowest failure rate of 10.9% in author field.

The purpose of this study is to identify what fields are used to decide how to proceed to the next screen and what factors affect the selection of the fields used on the online catalog system. The initial search option chosen by the users differed statistically according to the type of online catalog system used and the type of query. However, the type of user did not affect the choices of the initial search option. On the citation list screen, the title field was the most frequently used to move to the citation screen. On the citation screen, also, the title field was the most frequently used for confirming a retrieved citation.

this study is to determine whether color, icon, sorting methods of brief description about materials, and postioning methods of final records affect the usability of the OPAC(Online Public Access Catalog) screen designs in terms of success rate, search time, and users' preferences. The findings suggest that OPAC systems can be optimized to enhance user's performances conflict with each other, designers should give more weight to performance because of the library's mission of meeting users' information needs.
