In the research field of speech recognition, pinpointing the endpoints of speech utterance even with the presence of background noise is of great importance. These noise present during recording introduce disturbances which complicates matters since what we just want is to get the stationary parameters corresponding to each speech section. One major cause of error in automatic recognition of isolated words is the inaccurate detection of the beginning and end boundaries of the test and reference templates, thus the necessity to find an effective method in removing the unnecessary regions of a speech signal. The conventional methods for speech endpoint detection are based on two linear time-domain measurements: the short-time energy, and short-time zero-crossing rate. They perform well for clean speech but their precision is not guaranteed if there is noise present, since the high energy and zero-crossing rate of the noise is mistaken as a part of the speech uttered. This paper proposes a novel approach in finding an apparent threshold between noise and speech based on Lyapunov Exponents (LEs). This proposed method adopts the nonlinear features to analyze the chaos characteristics of the speech signal instead of depending on the unreliable factor-energy. The excellent performance of this approach compared with the conventional methods lies in the fact that it detects the endpoints as a nonlinearity of speech signal, which we believe is an important characteristic and has been neglected by the conventional methods. The proposed method extracts the features based only on the time-domain waveform of the speech signal illustrating its low complexity. Simulations done showed the effective performance of the Proposed method in a noisy environment with an average recognition rate of up 92.85% for unspecified person.

A degenerated differential pair has been widely used as a standard topology for digitally programmable CMOS VGAs. A variable degeneration resistor has been implemented using a resistor string or R-2R ladder with MOSFET switches. However, in the VGAs using these conventional methods, low-voltage and high-speed operation is very hard to achieve due to the dc voltage drop over the degeneration resistor. To overcome this problem a new variable degeneration resistor is proposed where the dc voltage drop is almost removed. Using the proposed gain control scheme, a low-voltage and high-speed CMOS VGA is designed. HSPICE simulation results using a 0.25${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CMOS process parameters show that the designed VGA provides a 3dB bandwidth of 360MHz and a 80dB gain control range in 2dB step. Gain errors are less than 0.4dB at 200MHz and less than l.4dB at 300MHz. The designed circuit consumes 10.8mA from a 2.5V supply and its die area is 1190${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$${\times}$360${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$.
Due to the popularization of the Extended Reality, research is actively underway to implement human motion in real-time 3D animation. In particular, Microsoft developed Kinect cameras for 3D motion information can be obtained without the burden of facilities and with simple operation, real-time animation can be generated by combining with 3D formats such as FBX. Compared to the marker-based motion capture system, however, Kinect has low accuracy due to its lack of estimated performance of joint information. In this paper, two algorithms are proposed to correct joint estimation errors in order to realize natural human motion in motion capture animation system in Kinect camera-based FBX format. First, obtain the position information of a person with a Kinect and create a depth map to correct the wrong joint position value using the human body segment length constraint information, and estimate the new rotation value. Second, the pre-set joint motion range constraint is applied to the existing and estimated rotation value and implemented in FBX to eliminate abnormal behavior. From the experiment, we found improvements in human behavior and compared errors between algorithms to demonstrate the superiority of the system.

The metals such as Al, Ag, Au, Cu, Cd, Co, Fe, Ni, Pb, Zn, etc are present at very low concentration in seawater and are classified as so-called trace metals. Whiles some of them are used in metabolism of living organism as a micronutrient, they may show toxic effects on organisms in case of a limited threshold concentration of them Plenty of studies on trace metals have been performed bemuse trace metals have a persistent influence and an adverse effect on marine environment and ecosystem. For long years, when the concentration of trace metals in natural waters such as seawater and fresh water are measured with high precision and accuracy, some systematic errors have been recognized to be present in measurements. Since 1975 in US and European countries, the measured concentration of trace metals in seawater have been found to be lower by factors of 10-1,000 than the previous data of trace metals measurements and the vertical profiles of the measurements have been shown to reflect well-known biological, physical and geochemical processes. These results are attributed to great advances in analytical instrumentation and methodology for trace metals measurements. Precautions against the contamination of samples are required to be taken in the process of sampling, storage, and analysis of samples. However, in Korea, erroneous data of trace metals with regard to ocean and marine environment related survey and investigations are reported The lock of exact understanding and information regarding precautions in sampling, storage and analysis of samples lead to the deterioration of data quality, especially in the analysis of trace metals. The major procedures to obtain the accurate data of trace metals in natural waters are introduced for applying to the study and assessment of marine environments.

Two representative residual static methods of traveltime decomposition and stack-power maximization are discussed in terms of application to land seismic data. For the model data with synthetic shot/receiver statics (time shift) applied and random noises added, continuities of reflection event are much improved by stack-power maximization method, resulting the derived time-shifts approximately equal to the synthetic statics. Optimal parameters (maximum allowable shift, correlation window, iteration number) for residual statics are effectively chosen with diagnostic displays of CSP (common shot point) stack and CRP (common receiver point) stack as well as CMP gather. In addition to removal of long-wavelength time shift by refraction statics, prior to residual statics, processing steps of f-k filter, predictive deconvolution and time variant spectral whitening are employed to attenuate noises and thereby to minimize the error during the correlation process. The reflectors including horizontal layer of reservoir are more clearly shown in the variable-density section through repicking the velocities after residual statics and inverse NMO correction.
Physical properties of rocks, such as velocity, are strongly dependant on detailed pore structures, and recently, pore micro-structures by X-ray tomography techniques have been used to simulate and understand the physical properties. However, the smoothing effect during the tomographic reconstruction procedure often causes an artifact - overestimating the contact areas between grains. The pore nodes near a grain contact are affected by neighboring grain nodes, and are classified into grain nodes. By this artifact, the pore structure has higher contact areas between grains and thus higher velocity estimation than the true one. To reduce this artifact, we tried two image processing techniques - sharpening filter and neural network classification. Both methods gave noticeable improvement on contact areas between grains visually; however, the estimated velocities showed only incremental improvement. We then tried to change the resolutions of tomogram and quantify its impact on velocity estimation. The estimated velocity from the tomogram with higher spatial resolution was improved significantly, and with around 2 micron spatial resolution, the calculated velocity was very close to the lab measurement. In conclusion, the resolution of pore micro-structure is the most important parameter for accurate estimation of velocity using pore-scale simulation techniques. Also the estimation can be incrementally improved if combined with image processing techniques during the pore-grain classification.

This paper describes the problems existed in conventional methods, the principle and advantages of the proposed scheme, and their performance comparison in detail. A CMOS VGA cell is designed using the proposed degeneration resistor. The 3dB bandwidths are greater than 650㎒ and the gain errors are less than 0.3dB in a gain control range from -12dB to +12dB in 6dB steps. It consumes 3.1㎃ from a 2.5V supply voltage.
In this paper, we propose a novel method for 3D reconstruction of an indoor scene using a multi-view camera. Until now, numerous disparity estimation algorithms have been developed with their own pros and cons. Thus, we may be given various sorts of depth images. In this paper, we deal with the generation of a 3D surface using several 3D point clouds acquired from a generic multi-view camera. Firstly, a 3D point cloud is estimated based on spatio-temporal property of several 3D point clouds. Secondly, the evaluated 3D point clouds, acquired from two viewpoints, are projected onto the same image plane to find correspondences, and registration is conducted through minimizing errors. Finally, a surface is created by fine-tuning 3D coordinates of point clouds, acquired from several viewpoints. The proposed method reduces the computational complexity by searching for corresponding points in 2D image plane, and is carried out effectively even if the precision of 3D point cloud is relatively low by exploiting the correlation with the neighborhood. Furthermore, it is possible to reconstruct an indoor environment by depth and color images on several position by using the multi-view camera. The reconstructed model can be adopted for interaction with as well as navigation in a virtual environment, and Mediated Reality (MR) applications.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the fixation effect by connecting impression copings and to compare the three types of impression trays which were used in open tray impression technique. Experimental groups used 3 types of impression trays which are custom tray, plastic metal combination tray and polycarbonate stock tray. These three groups were subdivided into splinted and non-splinted impression copings group. The total number of experimental groups was six. 10 specimens were made for each group. We used 1-screw test, observing the specimen on which only one side abutment of reference framework was fixated with 20 Ncm. The gap between implant analogue and abutment of the other side was observed by stereo microscope. It was measured at 6 points in each specimen. Measuring value was selected when same result was revealed 3 times. Recorded data were statistically analyzed. Whether impression copings were splinted or not, there was no significant difference among custom tray group, plastic metal combination tray group, and polycarbonate stock tray group. Significant statistical difference in vertical fit discrepancy was found between splinted and non-splinted impression copings group with custom tray, plastic metal combination tray and polycarbonate stock tray (p<0.05).
