Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the factors predicting HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) vaccination practices among female college students. Methods: A convenience sample of 207 female students attending four universities in one metropolitan city participated. Self-report questionnaires consisted of general characteristics, characteristics related prevention of cervical cancer, knowledge of HPV, knowledge of cervical cancer vaccination, and health beliefs related to HPV vaccination. Data were analyzed by $x^2$ test, independent t-test, and bivariate logistic regression. Results: Factors predicting HPV vaccination practices were information about HPV (OR=3.37), experience of HPV test (OR=12.71), and health beliefs related to HPV vaccination (OR=1.13). Conclusion: In order to increase the practice rate of HPV vaccination, it is necessary to provide simple key information that is easy to understand, rather than expert knowledge about HPV. Therefore, it is necessary to provide a way for college students to get information about virus easily. It is necessary to intervene integrally with the facilitation factor and obstacle factor of vaccination practice.
Purpose: This study was examined to identify the relationship among knowledge, attitude, and compliance with preventive behavior on influenza A (H1N1) by University students. Methods: The sample consisted of 101 students. The data were collected from August to September 2009 and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: The mean scores of knowledge ($11.89{\pm}1.39$), attitude ($30.16{\pm}2.87$), and compliance with preventive behavior ($22.35{\pm}3.51$) on influenza A (H1N1) were above the average. The level of knowledge was not significantly different regardless of characteristics. Students' attitude differed according to gender (p<.001), and plan to seasonal influenza vaccination for this year (p=.007). Compliance with preventive behavior was significantly different according to experience of seasonal influenza vaccination during last year (p=.010), experience of obtained information about influenza A (H1N1) (p=.037). Significant correlations were found between knowledge and compliance with preventive behavior (p<.001), attitude and compliance with preventive behavior (p<.001). Knowledge and attitude was a predictor of compliance with preventive behavior (23.4%). Conclusion : These findings indicate that perceived knowledge and attitude may be necessary to improve compliance with preventive behavior on influenza A (H1N1) among university students. The results of the study can be utilized in educational programs about preventing the occurrence of influenza among university students.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the relationships between the level of knowledge, attitude and compliance of preventive behaviors of the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) among nursing students. Methods: The study sample consisted of 219 nursing students. Through the use of a structured questionnaire, data collection was conducted from June 1st to June 30th 2015. The descriptive statistics, independent t-tests and Pearson's correlation coefficient were employed to analyze the data. Results: The score of the MERS-related knowledge was 9.15 out of 13. The participants had a positive attitude toward the MERS. The level of MERS-related knowledge was high in the case of temporary school closure or break in clinical practice because of the clinical training in hospitals that MERS occurred (t= 2.42, p= .016). The compliance level of the preventive behavior for MERS was high in female students (t= -2.11, p= .036), in the case of temporary school closure or break in clinical practice due to the clinical training in hospitals that MERS occurred (t = 3.29, p= .001), and in students that had MERS-related education for prevention (t = 2.80, p= .006). The MERS-related knowledge was positively correlated with the level of compliance for preventive behavior (r= .18, p= .009). Conclusion: To prevent MERS infection in nursing students, the level of knowledge on MERS should be enhanced so that they can practice preventive behaviors against it. Additionally, the MERS infection control education should include etiology and treatment products based on the MERS response guideline issued by the Centers for Korea Disease Control and Prevention.
Purpose: This study examined the characteristics of in-home injuries of children in low-income families and sought to identify the factors affecting parental in-home injury prevention practices. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive survey design was applied, using questionnaires on in-home injury characteristics in children, parental in-home injury prevention practices, parental perceptions and knowledge on childhood injuries, and the Parental Stress Index. We queried 169 parents of children less than 5years of age who were enrolled in Nutrition Plus Projects at community health centers. Results: Overall, 92.7% of children had experienced in-home injuries, with sliding crashes and bumping injuries as the most frequent type of injury. The recovery rate with a scar after injury was 26.3%. Parental practices for in-home injury prevention were higher according parental age, educational status, and previous learning experiences regarding in-home safety and injury prevention. The two most significant factors affecting parental in-home injury prevention practices were age and parental perception of childhood injuries as being controllable and preventable. Conclusions: Considering the high risk of in-home childhood injuries in low-income families, safety education and the promotion of injury prevention practices for parents are recommended. The strategy to enhance the parental perception on preventing childhood injuries needs to be addressed.

The purpose of this study is to examine the importance of family environment for middle school student's health behavior. In order to do this we collected data through the questioning of 543 male students and 512 female students in 4 Pusan middle schools. The results of this study are summarized as follows. The score on their family cohesion and adaptability was 57.8, 43.5 on the average for male students and 59.8, 44.8 in female students. The score on their family adaptability and cohesion was higher in fema1e students than male students. The score of their Breslow health behavior was 4.20 from a total of 7.00, the total score of health behavior was 131.4 from a total of 176.0 scores. The students had a 43.9 out of 60.0 in personal hygiene and daily habits, 32.8 out of 40.0 for infectious disease preventive behavior, 30.2 out of 40.0 in accident prevention, 24.5 out of 36.0 in mental health. In the cases of males, the score for Breslow health behavior was higher the lower the school grade, the younger the parents, the higher the educational level of parents, the more comfortable the family, and the higher the economic state. There was a statistically significant difference with regard to family cohesion and adaptability. In the cases of females, The total score for health behavior was higher. However, the difference was not significant in other fields. With the multiple regression analysis, the health behavior of middle school student was associated significantly with sex (female students), grade, family cohesion, and adaptability. In Breslow health behavior, scale sex (male students), father's age, family cohesion and the harmony of parents were significant variables. From the results of this study, a good family environment fur middle school students is very important.
Purposes of this study were to identify the factors associated with behavioral Intention to social distancing (BItSD) in a loss versus gain advertising context. This study is a secondary analysis of data surveyed after randomly allocating one of the loss and gain message framing advertisements for the prevention of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) infection to 379 adults aged 19 and over living in Korea in early March 2021. Attitude toward advertisement (𝛽=.03, p<.001), involvement in COVID-19 (𝛽=.14, p=.006) and emotional stigma (𝛽=-0.17, p<.001) were associated with BItSD, and the explanatory power of these variables was 19% (Adjusted R2=.19). Therefore, when health care professionals communicate with the public, they should develop the strategies to increase public people's involvement in the information and to induce positive advertising attitudes, and provide the effective messages to prevent stigma by accurate information.
This study was conducted to investigate the status of pregnancy and delivery and relationship among knowledge, attitude and practice about pregnancy and delivery in poor country, Nepal. A questionnaire survey by interviewer was conducted to examine the general characteristics, knowledge about pregnancy and delivery, attitude about pregnancy and delivery, the rate of prenatal care and delivery condition of women who had an experience of delivery during last year$(1994.4.13\sim1995.4.12)$ at a rural area, nepal(Dolakha Bazar Area). The major findings are as follows ; Among respondents, 87.5 percentage never had health education and the degree of knowledge about pregnancy and delivery was low. Among respondents, 56.6 percentage had the attitude that they didn't want antenatal care, 42.8 % of respondents answered that they wouldn't visit hospital or health center when vaginal bleeding occurred and 82.9% thought that the delivery itself was dirty. The proportion of women who experienced antenatal care was 28.3%, the proportion of health facilities delivery was 5.3%, which was very low and 82.6% of home delivery case didn't sanitate the tool to cut the umbilical cord. The women who had positive attitude about antenatal care and health facility utilization experienced more antenatal care and health facilities delivery. On consideration of above findings, health education for pregnancy and delivery is required to improve mother-child health status in poor country. To make efficient health education, the target population group, such as the uneducated, inhabitants far from health center or medical facility, must be chosen. To help the poor countries in medical field, the study on health status and its related factors on these countries like this article would be required.
This research attempted to identify the factors associated with the intention of human papilloma virus vaccination among mothers of elementary school daughters. The subject of study is 132 mothers of elementary school students. Data collection was conducted from July 1 to August 30 in 2017, and analyzed using SPSS 23.0 Program. Results showed that 94.7% children of the participants had not been vaccinated, whose reasons were the low knowledge about HPV vaccination, concerns about its side effects, burden for cost. The attitude toward HPV vaccination appeared to be the most important predictor of vaccination, which was followed by perceived behavior control and subjective norm as meaningful predictors, as well. Based on these results, further researches should be conducted to develop educational programs, which are able to offer exact information about the effect and side effect of HPV vaccination, and verify the effectiveness.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to ascertain current status of pneumococcal vaccination for the elderly and their knowledge, awareness and preventive behaviors for the vaccination and to verify the relationship between results. Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed using a questionnaire. Data were collected from 114 elderly people over 65 years at one community center from October to November in 2011. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS. Results: The vaccination rate of the elderly was as low as 19.3%. The most common reason for no vaccination was 'Because I did not know about it' (64.0%), and the intention to vaccination was to ascertain in 77.2%. The scores of knowledge, awareness and preventive behavior for vaccination were 0.31/1, 1.15/3 and 1.48/2, respectively. The knowledge for vaccination was significantly different by gender and education. The awareness of vaccination showed statistically significant difference by religion, perceived health status and experience of vaccination. A positive correlation was observed between both knowledge and awareness and awareness and preventive behavior for vaccination. Conclusion: The pneumococcal vaccination rate of the elderly was relatively low. To develop, therefore, the educational program for improving awareness and preventive behavior regarding pneumococcal vaccination of the elderly is necessary.
This study was performed to compare the status of oral care knowledge, oral care practice, and the patterns of the oral health care utilization before and during the pregnancy. It was conducted on the basis of a survey of 291 pregnant women who were in 9 post-natal care centers for post-natal care after delivery located in Daegu Metropolitan city and Changwon city of Gyeongsangnam-do from April 1st till April 29th on 2010. Forty five percent of them were experienced with the gum bleeding before pregnancy and 55.7% were experienced during pregnancy. The number of average tooth brushing per day was 3.05 times before pregnancy and 2.99 times during pregnancy in the survey. The patients who were experienced in dental health care during pregnancy out of the subjects for study were 51 for 17.5%. The score for the dental health knowledge was 7.82 for 10 grade scale and 5.38 before pregnancy and 5.14 during pregnancy for 10 grade scale in the actual performance scoring for dental care. Pre-dental care, experience in activity restriction due to dental disease, concern about oral health and regular visit to dental clinic were significant associated with use of dental care services during pregnancy.
