Development of sumi-e effect from example image (예제 기반 수묵담채화 표현기술 개발)

  • Sumi-e is one of the art work that uses not only ink line but also color painting. This technique is well known as a representative Asian painting style and widely used in movie, advertisement poster and various effect in camera device. In this paper, we propose an algorithm that can generate result image with Sumi-e effects of example image based on computer graphics and image processing techniques. For this, we pass two steps. The first is painting expression step. We used texture transfer technique to generate result with texture effect of reference image by analyzing numerically. The second step is ink-painting effect generation step. We express ink-painting effect in outline by considering intensity variation in edge of example image. Our algorithm can express various Sumi-e style based on selected reference image. So it can be utilized to various contents generating research.

  • The age of digital content mainstream consumers in the era of smart technology is expanding compared to the past. Consumers are taking a leading role in the production and distribution of contents in various forms. At the center of this is a post-modern social structure and space that break down the boundaries among Personal Digital Device, contents, production and consumption as a medium. Content rejects the existence of the same thing in the world. The tendency of the main consumer segment and the provision of post modern storytelling that penetrates it creates a huge industry group with various forms of contents. In order to carry out this study, with analyzing examples of movies, games, and advertisements, we found the fact that the center of content creation for individuals made their unique style, excluding generality. As a result of this research, the relationship between the user-driven digital contents and post modern storytelling have been revised the awareness about the possibility of various convergence in the field of contents production.

  • Through this thesis, I intended to analyze superhero action thriller through that achieved in art and box office after the film release. I would to access about it centering around directing viewpoint. of Christoper Nolan is evaluate as 'upgraded excellent action thriller'that have remarkable theme and excellent visual. Analysis of directing'll classify both contents and form. See about contents... theme of existential dilemma about the good and the evel, characters who is grew more powerful, and deeper than Batman series in old times. the fifth plot, especially dramatic plot by Joker's game, and various irony and motif. About form... efficient use of IMAX camera, prominence of action directing about car chase and fighting... better editing and music and art than former super hero series. The most important merit of is it's a philosophical theme. It is dipicted very seriously and successfully. First of all, the film has more advanced technique power and new directing style.

  • When newsreel was organized in 1967, it was a small but strong revolution. New York newsreel became the third world newsreel in 1972. The third world newsreel clearly stated that the purpose of the organization should be the alternative provision of the Television news. They also notified the revolution of the production system and the distribution system. Christine Choy who actively worked at the Third world newsreel succeeded the spirit of the organization through her works. Through the third world newsreel and Christine Choy who was the representative of the organization, this article is dealing with the mode of production and the style and the aesthetics of the Newsreel. Their activities were originally political and always controversial. They agonized who should be the film maker, how should be the distribution system. Through the strong arguments, the group had acquired not only collective identity but also collective production. Those collaborations had become the foundation of their works. Christine Choy has been a key figure of the Third world newsreel and her films has focused on the racial problem and gender problem. Her works have always been political and historical.

A Study on the Photorealism of Digital Architectural Rendering Images (디지털 건축 렌더링 이미지의 포토리얼리즘에 대한 고찰)

  • The production of hyper-realistic digital rendering images has been available due to radical improvements of recent digital rendering and CGI (Computer-Generated Imagery) software technologies. The photorealism of digital architectural rendering images requires further studies and discussions in that architectural visualization becomes a foundation of other fields using digital rendering technology, such as movies, games, and VR industry. The principles for achieving photorealism on digital architectural rendering images were re-defined and detailed elements were analyzed through theoretical analysis of the former studies. Four principles were drawn from the architectural rendering images produced by newly-developed technologies: physically-accurate lighting calculations, accurate object geometry representation, realistic material and texture, and characteristics of photography. The sub-elements of those four principles are categorized into either essential or selective for photorealistic imagery and the randomness of the selective elements could explain the variety of photorealistic architectural rendering styles.

  • Art has evolved into remarkable changes in its art form maintaining a close link with the contemporary scientific technologies that gave birth to new tools of expression in each era. Animation is an art form in an inextricable connection with technological aspects because it was spawned by the technical background like movies. In this regard, animation is often viewed very strongly by technical advancements in terms of an aesthetic approach. John Whitney Sr., one of the pioneers in computer graphics arts, turned his attention to the new technology called computer graphics as a means to visualize images and movement. The advent of a new medium had a strong influence not only on tools and means for novel expression but also on the gradual shift in thinking about arts and even the audiences' taste. In the 1980s, animation was combined with computer technology and the rapid progress of computer graphic technology opened up the era of new visual aesthetics, Today, the development of digital technology presents a different dimension of realism, either advocating hyperrealism by digital actors or presenting new illusionism by classic cartoon characters emphasized in a distortion or metamorphosis from a real life in order to consolidate animation realism. Based on the two perspectives mentioned above, this study can identify methods of digital character appropriation focused on the works of the ACM SIGGRAPH Asia and find how the relationship between art and technology has changed the digital realism and evolved the digital character as the digital technology has developed.

The Meaning of Hallyu and Its Sustainability in Bulgaria (불가리아 한류의 의미와 발전방향)

  • Hallyu in East Europe has been spread since the end of the 2000s and contributed to boost the familiarity and favorability of Korea. Hallyu in East Europe started from Romania and Hungary, Korean dramas and K-Pops spread to Bulgaria. Korea and Bulgaria established a diplomatic relations in 1990; however, people of both countries do not share enough information or knowledge on each other. This study aims to understand the meaning of Hallyu and the ways of building cultural relations through Hallyu based on the cognitions and attitudes toward Korea and Korean culture in Bulgaria. It conducted the Focus Group Discussions(FGD) for 24 Sofia residents in their 20s and 30s. The FGD questions were mainly on the level of familiarity and of impacts of Hallyu in Bulgaria. The Hallyu in Bulgaria is still not so popular although Hallyu has been promoted through the diverse activities of Korean Embassy, Sofia University, Korean language institutions, and the Hallyu fans. The economic and cultural impact of the Hallyu is not yet viable in Bulgaria. In order to be recognized as one of the foreign popular culture in Bulgaria, Hallyu should be promoted with various endeavors for Bulgarian people to experience Korean culture beyond Korean drama and K-Pops based on the understanding of socio-cultural characteristics of Bulgaria. Then, Hallyu will be spread by producing Korean dramas, films, and K-pops reflected by local cultural characteristics in Bulgaria and hybridity of Korean popular culture.

PPL of Visual Media Affects Clothing Purchase of College Students (영상매체의 PPL이 의복 구매에 미치는 영향에 대하여)

  • PPL(Product Placement) of visual media can change the purchasing behavior of College students. This study aimed to investigate the differences in consumer's conception about PPL among college students and to analyze the relationship between the PPL conception ant fashion innovation/fashion sensitivity of students, resulting into their real purchasing behavior. We surveyed to about 189 college students living near Seoul, with questionnaire about PPL conception, purchase of PPL clothing, satisfaction on PPL clothing, fashion innovation, opinion about PPL, PPL apparel brand to recall, etc. According to dichotomy of college students by fashion innovation, as higher fashion innovative they were, they paid more attention on PPL clothing while watching TV or movie, and they also could recall more PPL apparel brands, and they purchased more PPL clothing. While the students with low fashion innovation had references from the opinion of friends or around people when purchasing their clothing, the students with high fashion innovation did from fashion magazine or PPL clothing. The students who thought that PPL was important and effective on clothing purchasing behavior, answered that their preference to PPL bran4, to the company, and to the product had increased positively, but not to the actor/actress.

  • This research has chosen the animation character creation as a part of research for effective communication with audience due to the character taste getting diversity. The way of characters creation in this research suggest as follows. First, animation character action and a way of thinking, which makes regulation factor is a global outlook. It expresses a outer factors include appearance, style, action, facial expressions, tone of voice, hobbies, occupation, status and internal factors shows nature, conception, culture. Second, the given condition of general tendency of animation character, Cultural background, and Key characteristics and experiences is built up by global outlook. Third, the attractive of animation character show up the familiarity, originality, fun, various senses, and flexibility. Fourth, it is harmony of new global outlook and character. The establishment of animation character is that the familiarity which is easy approach to audience with special global outlook, the originality which is different from other works, fun with laugh, at different times in different ways to interact with more flexibility, various sense to be delivered to audience for easy setting is the most desirable.

  • The rise of Hallyu (Korean Wave) has generated a treasury of historiographic and cultural inquiries into the phenomenal success of South Korea's media entertainment industry. Whereas the majority of such studies focus on TV dramas and popular music, there is a medium, or rather a hybrid sub-genre within the medium category of short films, that must be reexamined and thus appreciated as the archetypal predecessor of popular Hallyu contents: music videos. The rapidly changing social, political, and economic climate in the mid- to late 1990s called for content that would grasp the attention of a younger, increasingly mobile population with diversified interests and routines that no longer guaranteed fixed-time viewership. Meanwhile, the advent of cable TV channels and high-speed internet service ensured greater temporal and infrastructural accessibility. The media entertainment industry's response to the new opportunities and challenges arising from these sudden growths in the scale, range, connectivity, and mobility of consumer demographics was synergetic cross-sector collaboration in the form of dramatized blockbuster music videos, which combined two popular and lucrative genres: trendy dramas and ballad music. In this essay, by relocating Hallyu's archetypal medium/genre, I claim that increasing upward and sideways mobility across sectors not only inspired new production but also reconfigured the very concept, form, and impact of media-driven cultural imaginary in South Korea.
