Methods: The participants were selected among applicants for low-income family financing provided by the government and included 115 infants and toddlers as well as their guardians. Demographic data, nutrition knowledge, dietary attitudes, and nutrition intakes were assessed using a self-administered questionnaire, biochemical examination, and 24 Hour-Recall method. Results: The score for guardians' nutrition knowledge was 12.97 points of a possible 15, and the score for dietary attitudes was 53.38 points of a possible 75. The nutrition knowledge and dietary attitudes showed significant differences by education level (p < 0.05) and family structure (p < 0.05). Energy intakes of subjects aged 6 ~ 24 months and over 25 months were lower than the DRI for Koreans. The intakes of carbohydrates, protein, and fat of subjects aged 6 ~ 24 months and over 25 months showed no significant differences by level of nutrition knowledge or dietary attitudes. The intake of Ca of subjects aged over 12 months showed significant differences by level of nutrition knowledge (p < 0.05). The intakes of Thiamin of subjects aged 6 ~ 11 months and P of subjects aged over 12 months showed significant differences by level of dietary attitudes (p < 0.05). There was a small positive correlation between education level and nutrition knowledge as well as between dietary attitudes. Nutrition knowledge showed a positive correlation with dietary attitudes. There was a positive correlation between nutrition knowledge and Ca, Riboflavin, as well as Vit C levels. Conclusion: Therefore, it is necessary to consider an educational program for increasing the practical application of knowledge to nutrition management for improvement of nutrition intake in infants and toddlers.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of childcare teachers' teacher efficacy, psychological burnout and the practice of respecting rights for infants. Methods: For this study, questionnaires were distributed to 398 childcare teachers in the cities of I and S. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistic, multiple regression and Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ for reliability by SPSS-WIN computer program. Results: The results yielded some interesting results. First, childcare teachers were shown to have higher respecting rights for infants but just average teacher efficacy rates. Secondly, the study showed a positive correlation between the practice of respecting rights for infants and childcare teachers' teacher efficacy. However, there was a negative correlation between the practice of respecting rights for infants and psychological burnout. There was also a negative correlation between the practice of respecting rights for infants and childcare teachers' teacher efficacy. Third, the higher the childcare teachers' teacher efficacy of childcare teachers, the more positive influences existed in the practice of respecting rights for infants. It also showed that the lower the degree of psychological burnout, there was a negative impact on the practice of respecting rights for infants. Conclusion/Implications: The results of this study suggest that a support plan is needed to boost childcare teachers' teacher efficacy, and to lower the psychological burnout of childcare teachers with regards to the practice of respecting rights for infants.

  • This study aimed to investigate parents' and dentists' perceptions of the national oral health screening for infants and children (OHS), and evaluate the dentists' accuracy of analyzing the results of OHS. A questionnaire survey was conducted, face-to-face or online, for 90 parents of children who received OHS in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at Yonsei University Dental Hospital and 100 dentists working at local clinic or university dental hospital from May to October 2021. Most parents and dentists were aware of the importance of OHS, and approximately 96.7% of parents were satisfied with OHS. The requirements of parents and dentists about OHS were different. The reasons for having difficulties in explaining parents after OHS and the opinions on appropriate period and number of OHS were disagreed between pediatric dentists and general dentists. Regardless of dentists' major, work experience, elapsed period after taking online education program, the accuracy of the examination result was low. In this study, various opinions of parents and dentists on OHS were collected. Efforts should be made to enhance the oral health of infants and children by considering the requirements of parents and dentists and improving the accuracy of examination results.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the state of parent education experienced by parents and the state of child education at home relation to infant/preschooler abuse prevention. The subjects in this study were 302 selected parents who resided in I city and whose children were in infancy or early childhood. A survey was conducted, and frequency analysis or chi-square test was carried out after their answer sheets were gathered. The findings of the study were as follows: As for the state of parent education, the parents who received education related to infant/ preschooler abuse prevention accounted for 12.6 percent, and the parents who were taught about all the four types of abuse outnumbered the others who weren't. The parents received that education at institutions for early childhood education by experts in child abuse and early childhood education, and they replied they were satisfied with that education. As for the state of child education, the parents who replied they provided abuse prevention education for their children at home accounted for 25.2 percent, and they answered they taught about physical abuse and how to cope with abuse. They responded they started to conduct this education in their homes when their children were in infancy, and they did it frequently in daily life mainly through conversations. They told it's difficult for them to offer this education at home due to a shortage of abuse-related materials. And whether they offered that education for their children or not at home was significantly different according to whether they received parent education or not. Given the findings of the study, the necessity of the development of manuals for abuse prevention education that can easily be used at home without any modifications was suggested, and education on neglect and the revitalization of publicity are required as well.

  • This study investigated the effects of preschool teachers' ethical awareness and teaching flow on the teacher-preschooler interaction based on the participation of 345 preschool teachers in Chungcheongnam-do and Gyeonggi-do. The collected data were analyzed by correlation analysis and hierarchical regression analysis. The results of the study were as follows: First, both teachers' ethical awareness and teaching flow were strongly correlated with the teacher-preschooler interaction, and the correlation between sub-variables was also significant. Second, analysis of the relative strength of teachers' ethical awareness and teaching flow in the explanation of the teacher-preschooler interaction revealed that intrinsic motivation as a sub-variable among teaching flow was the most prominent predictor of the teacher-preschooler interaction, followed by ethics for preschoolers among teachers' ethical awareness as well as specific plans among teaching flow. The findings of this study suggest future directions for teacher education based on newly identified factors affecting teacher-preschooler interactions, desirable teacher-preschooler interactions, and implications for improving childcare quality.

  • This study aimed at analyzing teachers' perception of democratic civic education. A total of 200 childcare teachers participated in the survey, and frequency analysis and cross-tabulation analysis were performed to analyze the survey data. According to the results of the study, first, the childcare teachers were significantly different in the teachers' factors on necessity and difficulty of democratic civic education. The childcare teachers perceived the necessity of democratic civic education, and attributed the cause of the difficulties in democratic civic education to parents' attitudes. Second, there weren't significant differences in the teacher's factors on the content and methods of democratic civic education. Therefore, in this study, it is emphasized that democratic civic education is related to young children's homes and communities, and reorganization of democratic civic education programs based on development of young children is suggested.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the relationships among childcare teachers' emotional intelligence, daycare center directors' emotional leadership, and teacher-infant interactions. Also, this study examines whether a daycare center director's emotional leadership would mediate the correlation between a childcare teacher's emotional intelligence and teacher-infant interactions. A questionnaire was given to 293 childcare teachers. Using SPSS version 21.0, the data were analyzed for Pearson's correlation, hierarchical regression analysis, the Sobel-test, and the meditation effect proposed by Baron and Kenny. The findings are as follows. First, there was a positive correlation between a childcare teacher's emotional intelligence, the director's emotional leadership, and teacher-infant interactions. Second, the influence on teacher-infant interactions from directors' emotional leadership was relatively greater than childcare teachers' emotional intelligence. Finally, the emotional leadership of daycare center directors partially mediated the relationship between childcare teachers' emotional intelligence and teacher-infant interactions. This study provides significant empirical data for improving childcare.

  • The aim of the present study was to examine the relationship of maternal factors such as knowledge, attitude and practice of weaning with infant feeding. The subjects were 103 mothers visiting a public health center in Gumi, Kyungbook who filled out self-administered Questionnaires. First of all, about $90\%$ of the participants recognized the importance of complementary foods and proper weaning practices. The response for the recognition of the importance of infant weaning process showed a significant difference by education levels. Concerning an appropriate time for the introduction of weaning foods, $53\%$ of mothers had commenced weaning at age $4\~6$ months, while $38\%$ had done so at age $6\~8$ months. Approximately $76\%$ of mothers fed their babies without the knowledge of age-related weaning method and type of weaning foods. There were no statistical differences in maternal weaning knowledges between levels of education and house income. Mothers with higher levels of education and family income tended to show high perception scores regarding possibility of food allergies caused by baby foods. A demand for reliable sources and education related to nutritious weaning foods and weaning practices were strong in the group with higher education. Knowledge of weaning method and baby foods were obtained by 59 of the 103 mothers from mass media, 35 from friends caring babies, and 9 obtained advice from health professionals or family. Advice from the heath professionals was not the main influence on their decision to introduce weaning foods. Although commercial baby foods are the most commonly used as first weaning foods, those with higher education groups considered commercial baby food are not nutritionally better than home-maid foods. The current findings suggest to us that to improve weaning process, mothers should be educated on the selection and preparation of nutritious, balanced weaning foods and on good weaning practices. It is advised that supportive health professionals from community public health centers should lead the education of infant feeding practices based on maternal characteristics and on basic food and nutritional knowledge.
