Effect of Salt Concentration on the Aerobic Biodegradability of Sea Food Wastewater (수산물 가공폐수의 호기성 생분해도에 미치는 염분농도의 영향)

  • The study was performed to evaluate the effects of chloride concentrations on the ultimate aerobic biodegradability and to use the result as the fundamental data for sea food wastewater treatment. When the organic removal efficiency by chloride concentrations (1,400~18,000 mg/L) was evaluated, microbes adapted to the saline at ${\leq}$ 6,000 mg/L of chloride but treatment efficiency was not improved at ${\geq}$ 12,000 mg/L of chloride because of delayed reaction time. Functional coefficient $Y_I$ of non-biodegradable soluble organic and inert material production coefficient Yp by microbe metabolism increased as chloride concentrations increased. Soluble organic matter ratio by chloride concentration (0~18,000 mg/L) was 10.8~13.1%, inert material production efficiency by microbes metabolism was evaluated as 7.0~24.6%. $NH_3$-N removal efficiencies were 96.2, 96.5, 90.2 and 90.3% using original wastewater HRT 18 hr, 6,000 mg/L chloride concentration HRT 22 hr, 12,000 mg/L chloride concentration HRT 30 hr, and 18,000 mg/L chloride concentration HRT 45 hr, respectively. Nitrification process was more sensitive to salt concentration than organic matter removal to salt concentration. Under ${\geq}$ 6,000 mg/L chloride concentration, conversion rate from $NO_s$-N to $NO_2$-N was low.

A Study on the Use of Seasoning for NAMUL Preparation -in salt concentration-" (나물 조리시 양념사용에 관한 연구 -염분농도를 중심으로-)

  • The Namul is one of the most popular and fundamental foods in the Korean meal. The taste of NAMUL depends mostly on the seasonings put on which the salt concentration is the prevailing element of them. The purpose of this study is to investigate the optimum salt concentration by sensory evaluation. The amount of each seasoning except salt was reviewed and used following many food preparation books published. Four different concentrations of salt were added to make different salt concentrations of Namuls. The results of the study are following: 1. By reviewing the related publishments, the amount of seasoning used in 300g of cooked Namul were 15.5g of welsh onion, 7.9g of garlic, 9.0g of sesame, and 11.5g of welsh onion, 7.0g of garlic, 6.0g of sesame oil, 3.3g of sesame, 13.9g of sugar, 10.6g of vinegar and 5.6g of red pepper were the main seasonings for 300g of raw Namul. 2. The optimum salt concentration of cooked Nanul was 1.412% and that of raw Namul was 1.368%. 3. The salt concentration had no effect on the texture within the salt concentrations ranges of 0.84% through 1.89% in Platycodon Namul, Radish Namul, Soybean sprouts Namul, Pumpkin Namul, Raw Radish Namlll, Raw Cucumber Namu1. 4. The more the amount of soy sauce increases, the more the palatability drops. Platycodon and Cucumber Namuls had preference of color when the amount of soy sauce added was 0.8%∼l.0% of the Namul. On the other hand, Spinach Namul had the preference up to 4.8% of the Namul. 5. The overall taste of cooked Namul was considered to be the test in the salt concentrations 1.223%∼l.513%, while that of raw Namul was considered to be best in 1.183%∼1.373% of salt concentration. 6. According to the sensory evaluation, there was a tendency that the overall taste of Namul is consistent with the preferance of saltiness in Namul.

Effects of Suspended Sediment on Metabolism of Scapharca broughtonii (피조개, Scapharca broughtonii 의 대사에 미치는 부니의 영향)

  • 피조개, Scapharca broughtonii의 개체크기(작은 개체: 1.0-1.3cm, 큰 개체:4-5 cm), 수온(10, 15및 2$0^{\circ}C$), 염분(7,13,19,26 및 32 $\textperthousand$)에 따른 일반적인 대사경향과, 수온 1$0^{\circ}C$와 2$0^{\circ}C$ 그리고 부니 농도 25, 50, 100, 200, 400 600, 800및 1000ppm에서 15일간 노출시키면서 사망률, 산소소비율, 여수율 및 배설률을 측정한 결과는 다음과 같다.1. 일반적으로 피조개의개체 크기는 작은 개체일수록, 그리고 수온이 높을수록 비체중 산소소비율, 비체중 여수율 및 비체중 배설률은 높게 나타났다. 그리고 염분을 제외하고는 산소 소비율과 여수율은 염분농도의 증가에 따라 다소 증가하는 유사한 경향을 보인 반면, 비체중 배설률은 염분농도가 낮아질수록 낮은 양상을 나타내었다. 2. 1$0^{\circ}C$의 경우 작은 개체에서 LC$_{50}$은 557.11 ppm, 큰 개체에서 856.03 ppm이었고, 20%C의 경우, 작은 개체에서의 LC$_{50}$은 274.55 ppm, 큰 개체에서 346.26 ppm이었으며 1$0^{\circ}C$에 비해 2$0^{\circ}C$에서 특히 1000 ppm이상의 농도에서 사망률이 현저히 증가함으로써 부니에 의한 영향은 크게 나타났다.3.에 비해 2$0^{\circ}C$의 고수온구에서 부니의 농도가 높을수록 폐사율은 높게 나타났으며, 1$0^{\circ}C$와 2$0^{\circ}C$의 두 수온구에서 산소소비율과 여수율에 대한 각 농도별 부니의 영향은 유사한 경향을 나타내었다. 특히, 2$0^{\circ}C$에서 사망률이 현저히 증가하기 시작하는 부니농도 100ppm이상에서 산소소비율의 감소가 크게 나타났다. 그리고 암모니아태질소 배설률은 부니농도의 증가에 따라 차츰 증가를 보인후 600ppm이후부터는 다시 감소하는 경향을 보였다.

  • The purpose of salinity intrusion due to numerical simulation is analaysis for saline intrusion to the upstream channel in Nakdong River Estuary Barrage(NREB) to get enough fresh water. Conditions that occur salinity intrusion affect by tidal distribution at seas, so salinity concentration changes according to tidal phenomenon. Making this connection cleary can help preventing salinity intrusion. In this study, estimating salinity intrusion to the upstream channel in NREB using EOMSED model, we reexamine NREB's existence. Comparison is also made with observing data. In result, when inflow discharges at $75m^3/s$ is more similar with respect to observing data than $130m^3/s$ at ECOMSED model. Thus, estimations are more precise at little discharges than lots of discharges.

  • 일반적으로 샌드파일 설치로 인해 파일주변지반은 교란되어 스미어 영향과 배수저항에 의해 압밀지연 현상이 발생하는 것으로 알려져 있다. 특히 예민한 점성토 지반일 경우 교란정도가 크며, 틱소트로피현상이 지연될 경우 지지력 및 압축특성은 불리하게 된다. 본 연구에서는 원지반 특성이 파악된 채취시료를 이용하여 완전 교란조건에서의 실내모형시험과, 염분농도변화에 의한 실내역학시험을 실시하였다. 실내모형시험 결과 낮은 하중단계에서의 압밀계수는 비교란 시료의 특성과 유사하게 나타났으며, 염분농도 증가에 따라 일축압출강도가 증가하고 강도회복은 빠르며 압축지수는 작게 나타났다. 결과적으로 점성토지반 간극수중 염분농도는 강도증대와 압축특성 변화에 영향을 주며, 틱소트로피 증대의 영향요소가 적은 담수지반에서 샌드파일을 시공할 경우 발생하는 과다침하의 한 원인으로 여겨지는바, 이와 같은 요인은 측방유동에 의한 침하거동과 함께 고려하여야 할 영향요소로 파악되어야 할 것으로 판단된다.

Investigation of Affect on Composting process and plant growth of Salt concetration in food waste (음식물쓰레기 염분(NaCl)농도가 퇴비화 및 식물성장에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate influence of NaCl precisely in recycling process of food waste and in places where food waste compost is used, because NaCl with food waste has caused concerns of adverse effects in the process of food waste recycling and in plates where final products is used. The influence of NaCl in composting was measured through temperature, concentration of carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) and pH. NaCl didn't cause bad effects until 1%(wet base) of NaCl concentration for composting, showed adverse effects gradually at 2% and 3% and affected composting deeply at 6%. The influence of NaCl in composting was insignificant until 3% of NaCl concentration but decomposing efficiency of organic compounds was interfered with more than 3%. NaCl concentration has to be maintained less than 1%(wet base) to minimize adverse effects of NaCl in composting however NaCl concentration with food waste used in real composting facilities is so lower than 1 %(wet base) that the bad influence in food waste composting is slight. Compost(final product) was collected from real food waste recycling facilities in A city, S city, K-Gu and S-Gu and controlled NaCl concentration artificially such as 0.5%, 0.8%, 1.2%, 1.6%, 2.0%, 2.5% and 3.0% to investigate influence of NaCl on growth of plants. In results of plant test and pot experiment, according to quality of compost sampled, the influence of NaCl is insufficient until 3% and bad effects appeared clearly more than 3%. The bad effects showed less than 3% because compost sampled was not stabilized fully.

Effect of Salinity on the Survival and Growth of Larvae of the Boreal Digging Frog (Kaloula borealis) (맹꽁이 유생의 생장과 생존에서의 염분영향)

  • This study was conducted to examine the effect of salinity on the early embryonic development stage of boreal digging frogs (Kaloula borealis). An experiment was carried out with the eggs of K. borealis mating couples laid along the coastal zone of Jeju Island in June 2013. The salinity was set to 0, 1, 3, 5, and 7 ‰, respectively. The survival and growth of the larvae at various stages from the egg phase to the closing of their external gills phase were observed. In another experiment, tadpoles in internal gill stage were placed in solutions with salinity of 0, 1, 3, 5, and 7 ‰, respectively, and their survival rate and growth rate were observed, and then the results of the two experiments above were compared. The results showed that in egg and external gill stage, there was no significant difference in survival rate in 3 ‰ solution, though there was low survival rate in 5 ‰ solution. Further, all the eggs were dead in 7 ‰ solution, so it appeared that solutions with salinity of 5 ‰ or higher affect the survival of K. borealis in the early embryonic development. Larvae in the internal gill stage showed no significant difference in survival rate from the control group up to a salinity of 5 ‰, but when placed in a solution of over 7 ‰ salinity, the survival rate decreased. The growth rate also slowed down with the higher salinity. It appeared that in both the external gill stage and the internal gill stage in 5 ‰ solution, the growth rate decreased significantly compared to the control group. From this study it is concluded that higher salinity values have a significant impact on the survival and growth of the K. borealis larvae and this finding can be used to conserve K. borealis species that are decreasing in number due to the side effects of development in coastal areas.

Germination and Protein Pattern of Phragmites communis Population according to the Soil Salt Contents of Habitats (생육지의 토양염분농도에 따른 갈대( Phragmites communis)개체군의 발아 및 단백질 패턴)

  • In order to study and ecotypic variation of Phragmites communis Trin., we investigated germination rates, velocities, and protein band patte군 of seeds of three population of salt marsh, estuary and fresh water areas of Muan Peninsular in southwestern coast of Korea from March, 1990 to October, 1992. The highest germination rates of seeds were observed at $25^{\circ}C$; those of population of the estuary and fresh water are were 100% and that of the salt marsh was 95%. Similar germination rates were observed from the populations of estuary and fresh water areas at $30^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$, but they decreased at $15^{\circ}C$. The onset of germination of seeds of three population was earlier $^{\circ}C$, but they decreased at $15^{\circ}C$. The onset of germination of seeds of th three populations was earlier at both $25^{\circ}C$, which was higher than those of any other areas, while that of fresh water areas was the lowest. were different; those of salt marsh and estuary decreased to 30% and 2.5%, respectively, at 3.0% of salt content, but seeds of the fresh water area did not germinate at all at the same salt content. The onset of germination was delayed in the order of the salt marsh, esturay and fresh water areas as salt content of culture solution increased. Germination of seeds from the population of salt marsh was found to begin earliest. The highest germination velocity of three populations was observed in the culture containing no salt. The germination velocity constant decreased as salt content of culture solution increased from 0.5% to 3.0%: those of the populations of the salt marsh, estuary, and fresh water areas were 9.50, 0.75 and 0.00, respectively, at the salt concentration of 3.0%. Soluble protein patterns of seedings from the three populations were analyzed by SDS-PAGE method. The results showed that protein patterns of the three populations were distinctly different qualitatively and quantitatively. The present study suggests that populations of Phragmites communis Trin. in the coast of Korea had taken ecotypic variations of habitats, i.e., fresh water, estuary, and salt marsh types, according to the salt content.

Development of a L-Band Microwave Radiometer for Remote Sensing of Water Surface Salinity (수면 염분 원격탐사용 L-Band 마이크로파 라디오미터의 개발)

  • The development processes of a L-band microwave radiometer for remote sensing of water surface salinity are described in this paper. Achieving the development aim of the measurement accuracy within 2 psu for water surface salinity of 0~40 psu, the requirements and specifications of the microwave radiometer and its receiver are drawn. The receiver with high gain, high sensitivity is designed and implemented to satisfy these requirements and specifications. The receiver has the bandwidth of 45 MHz, the system gain of 47 dB and the sensitivity of 0.41 K at 1,390 MHz. The effectiveness of the developed L-band microwave radiometer for remote sensing of water surface salinity is demonstrated experimentally. The results show the microwave radiometer can detect water surface salinity for 10~28 psu within the accuracy of 1.4 psu.

  • We investigated physiological responses of hybrid striped bass (Morone chrysops ${\times}$ M. saxatilis) to gradual changes of salinity from 33 psu to 0 psu and from 0 psu to 33 psu in two separate trials. Gradual salinity change was not accompanied by an increase in cortisol level in the plasma however, the glucose level in the plasma increased. $Na^{+}$, $Cl^{-}$ and osmolality significantly increased with rising salinity, but they did not change with dropping salinity. The hybrid striped bass adjusted effectively without stress to the gentle change of salinity.
