  • The satellite signals have attenuation when Satellite path have rain. The signal attenuation by rain is effected over 100Hz and higher frequency signal have very serious attenuation. The rain attenuation is due mostly to rain rate and rain rate data over 10 years need to estimate characteristics of distribution of ram rate. In this paper, We have obtained the rain characteristics from on the recent data(1988-1997) for Changwon-Masan approximated with Moupfouma New Model, and then estimated the rain attenuation using ITU-R, Global and SAM methods, and finally, Effect of rain was analyzed.

  • Fused filament fabrication (FFF) is a process extruding and stacking materials. PLA materials are one of the most frequently used materials for FFF method of 3D printing. Polylactic acid (PLA)-based materials are among the most widely used materials for FFF-based three-dimensional (3D) printing. PLA is an eco-friendly material made using starch extracted from corn, as opposed to plastic made using conventional petroleum resin; PLA-based materials are used in various fields, such as packaging, aerospace, and medicines. However, it is important to analyze the mechanical properties of theses materials, such as elastic strength, before using them as structural materials. In this study, the reliability of PLA-based materials is assessed through an analysis of the changes in the linear elasticity of these materials under thermal degradation by applying a hyperelastic analytical model.

  • Surface temperature of supersonic wind tunnel model was measured using an infrared thermography technique. To measure the temperature quantitatively, various calibration techniques such as blackbody calibration which converts detected camera signal to temperature, distortion correction due to the camera lens and an imbalance of camera pose, and emissivity calibration which considers viewing angles to the model surface, were employed. Throughout the study, for the quantitative as well as qualitative surface temperature measurement, it was verified that the distortion correction must be considered even for the use of two-dimensional model in aerodynamics testing.

  • Durability is one of the most important and attractive subjects in concrete research field because not only durability of concrete is reduced by various degradation factors but also its reduction adversely influences the structural performance and service life of concrete structure. For this reason, a considerable amount of papers associated with concrete durability have been published and those researches were mainly focused on the changes of intrinsic properties of concrete due to chemicophysical degradations. However, the relationship between durability of concrete and structural behavior of concrete member has not been well established yet. In this study, calcium leaching degradation, a cause of concrete strength reduction, was dealt with. The experiments of compressive and flexural behavior of degraded concrete member were performed to evaluate the characteristics of structural behavior according to degradation level. Finally, the results from the experiments were compared with those obtained from nonlinear FEM analysis. The results from this study clearly showed that leaching degradation leads to decrease in compressive strength and compressive behavior evolves from brittle to ductile failure pattern during the degradation process. Load capacity and flexible rigidity of the degraded RC member decreased when the degradation level increased, in compressive zone. Additionally, it was found that the values from nonlinear FEM analysis, CDP model in ABAQUS, coincided well with the experimental results.

  • An integrated analysis of kerosine/LOX based KSR-III rocket body/plume flowfield has been performed. The analysis has been executed employing three kind of gas thermo-chemical models including calorically perfect gas, multiple species chemically reacting gas, and chemically frozen gas models and their effect on rocket flowfield has been accessed to provide the most appropriate gas thermo-chemical model which meets a specific purpose of performing rocket body and plume analysis. The finite-rate chemically reacting flow solution exhibited higher temperature throughout the flowfield than other gas models due to the increased combustion gas temperature caused by the chemical reactions within the nozzle. All the reactions were dominated only in the shear layer and behind the barrel shock reflection region where the gas temperature is high and the effect of finite-rate chemical reactions on the flowfield was found to be minor. However, the present plume computation including finite-rate chemical reactions revealed major reactions occurring in the plume and their reaction mechanisms and as well.

  • Reinforced concrete bridge decks are the first to be damaged by vehicle loads and rain infiltration. Concrete deterioration primarily occurs owing to the corrosion of rebars and other metal components by chlorides used for snow and ice melting. The structural condition and concrete deterioration of the bridge decks within the pavement were evaluated using ground-penetrating radar (GPR) survey data. To evaluate concrete deterioration in bridges, it is necessary to develop GPR data analysis techniques to accurately identify deteriorated locations and rebar positions. GPR exploration involves the acquisition of reflection and diffraction wave signals due to differences in radar wave propagation velocity in geotechnical media. Therefore, a full-waveform inversion (FWI) method was developed to evaluate the deterioration of reinforced concrete bridge decks by estimating the radar wave propagation velocity in geotechnical media using GPR data. Numerical experiments using a GPR velocity model confirmed the deterioration phenomena of bridge decks, such as concrete delamination and rebar corrosion, verifying the applicability of the developed technology. Moreover, using the synthetic GPR data, FWI facilitates the determination of rebar positions and concrete deterioration locations using inverted velocity images.

  • The most common deteriorating processes of concrete structures are carbonation and chloride ion ingress. Many concrete structures have been suffered from chloride ions diffusion or carbonation induced reinforcement corrosion damage and many studies have been done on it. However, those studies were confined mostly to the single deterioration of carbonation or chloride attack only, although actual environment is rather of combined conditions. In case of many in-situ concrete structures, deterioration happened more for the case of combined attack than the single case of carbonation or chloride attack. In this paper, chloride profiles of carbonated concrete is predicted by considering two layer composite model, which is based on Fick's 2nd law. From the experimental result on combined deterioration of chloride and carbonation, it was examined that high chloride concentration was built up to 3∼5 mm over depth from carbonation depth. The analytical modeling of chloride diffusion was suggested to depict the relative influence of the carbonation depth. The diffusion coefficients of carbonation concrete and uncarbonated concrete with elapsed time were considered in this modeling.

  • Concrete is cost-benefit and high-durable construction material, however durability problem can be caused due to steel corrosion under chloride attack. Recently deicing salt has been widely spread in snowing season, which accelerates micro-cracks and scaling in surface concrete and the melted deicing salt causes corrosion in embedded steel. The previous governing equation of Fick's 2nd Law cannot evaluate the deteriorated surface concrete so that another technique is needed for the surface effect. This paper presents chloride penetration analysis technique for concrete subjected to deicing salt utilizing multi-layer diffusion model and time-dependent diffusion behavior. For the work, field investigation results of concrete pavement exposed deicing salt for 18 years are adopted. Through reverse analysis, deteriorated depth and increased diffusion coefficient in the depth are evaluated, which shows 12.5~15.0mm of deteriorated depth and increased diffusion coefficient by 2.0 times. The proposed technique can be effectively applied to concrete with two different diffusion coefficients considering enhanced or deteriorated surface conditions.

  • The ability to recognize human emotions by computer vision is a very important task, with many potential applications. Therefore the demand for emotion recognition using not only RGB images but also thermal images is increasing. Compared to RGB images, thermal images has the advantage of being less affected by lighting conditions but require a more sophisticated recognition method with low-resolution sources. In this paper, we propose a Divide and Conquer-based CNN training strategy to improve the performance of facial thermal image-based emotion recognition. The proposed method first trains to classify difficult-to-classify similar emotion classes into the same class group by confusion matrix analysis and then divides and solves the problem so that the emotion group classified into the same class group is recognized again as actual emotions. In experiments, the proposed method has improved accuracy in all the tests than when recognizing all the presented emotions with a single CNN model.

  • The physical nature of fatigue shows the considerable amount of scatter from intrinsic and extrinsic factors. In this study, some degradation models, such as the gamma process model, were reviewed in terms of uncertainties associated with the continuous, gradual, and monotonic nature of fatigue crack growth. Statistically varying fatigue crack growth data obtained from Lu and Meeker were used as an example to demonstrate the use of the gamma process model. This model can describe the condition and lifetime as statistical distribution curves whose shapes vary with cycles. From the skewness of the statistical distribution curves, it was confirmed that the median is suitable for being considered as the expected life. The use of the gamma process model enables the optimum replacement period and percentile life to be employed as criteria for preventive maintenance policy.
