  • Differential diagnosis of the taeniid proglottids between Taenia asiatica and T. sagniata is a daunting task due to their close morphological similarity. However, to correctly diagnose them on time is important in managing infected patients, as well as for reducing serious complications such as cysticercosis. Currently, DNA-based methods for the dissection of genomic information of parasites are being employed to make accurate and rapid diagnoses in the field of parasitology. In this study, multiplex PCR was established and exploited to identify exact species of taeniid adult worms recovered from Korean people. To discriminate one from the other other, primers-Ta4978F, Ts5058F, Tso7421F, and Rev7915- were used for the multiplex PCR, which provided swift and precise identification of the taeniid worms being observed. Also, having instituted PCR methodology, we ascertained that easiness would be achieved to reassess and re-evaluate Korean endemic data on human taeniid cestodes.

  • With the recent machine learning paradigm of using nonparametric Bayesian statistics and statistical inference based on random sampling, the Dirichlet distribution finds many uses in a variety of graphical models. It is a multivariate generalization of the gamma distribution and is defined on a continuous (K-1)-simplex. This paper presents a sampling method for a Dirichlet distribution for the problem of dividing an integer X into a sequence of K integers which sum to X. The target samples in our problem are all positive integer vectors when multiplied by a given X. They must be sampled from the correspondingly gridded simplex. In this paper we develop a Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) proposal distribution for the neighborhood grid points on the simplex and then present the complete algorithm based on the Metropolis-Hastings algorithm. The proposed algorithm can be used for the Markov model, HMM, and Semi-Markov model for accurate state-duration modeling. It can also be used for the Gamma-Dirichlet HMM to model q the global-local duration distributions.

  • For evaluating the effect of triple therapy on eradication of gastric Helicobacter species infection in dogs, 7 dogs that had naturally acquired Helicobacter spp. infections were administered amoxicillin, metronidazole and omeparazole orally for 14 days. Changes of infection state were determined by urease test for gastric biopsies and Helicobacter specific PCR analysis for gastric biopsies and fecal samples at 7, 14 days after triple therapy and 30 days after cessation of triple therapy. Although negative results for urease test were obtained 6 of 7 dogs at 14 days after starting triple therapy, PCR analysis for gastric biopsies and fecal samples showed negative results in 3 and 4 dogs respectively. At 30 days after cessation of triple therapy, all tests showed negative results in 3 dogs. Based on these results, diagnostic tests for detercting Helicobacter spp. infection are recommended in dogs having chronic gastritis sign (usually intermittent vomiting) and triple therapy described in this study can be applied for eradicating the organism if the animals were proved to be infected.

  • In this paper, internal blast effect of reinforced concrete core structure were investigated using Ansys Autodyn, which is a specialized hydrocode for the analysis of explosion and impact. It is expected that internal blast case can give additional damage to the structure because it causes rebound of blast loads. Therefore, in this paper, the hazard of internal blast effect is demonstrated using UFC 3-340-02 criteria. In addition, analysis result of Autodyn, experimental result regarding rebound of blast load, and example of UFC 340-02 are compared to verify that Autodyn can analyze internal blast effect properly. Furthermore, progressive collapse mechanism of core structure which is one of the most important parts in high rise buildings is also analyzed using Autodyn. When internal blasts are loaded to core structure, the core structure is mostly damaged on its corner and front part of core wall from explosives. Therefore, if the damaged parts of core wall are demolished, progressive collapse of the core structure can be initiated.

  • This paper describes an optimization of a language model and an acoustic model that improve the ability of speech recognition with Korean nit digit. Recognition errors of the language model are decreasing by analysis of the grammatical feature of korean unit digits, and then is made up of fsn-node with a disyllable. Acoustic model make use of demi-syllable pair to decrease recognition errors by inaccuracy division of a phone, a syllable because of a monosyllable, a short pronunciation and an articulation. we have used the k-means clustering algorithm with the transformed successive state splining in feature level for the efficient modelling of the feature of recognition unit . As a result of experimentations, $10.5\%$ recognition rate is raised in the case of the proposed language model. The demi-syllable pair with an acoustic model increased $12.5\%$ recognition rate and $1.5\%$ recognition rate is improved in transformed successive state splitting.

  • A simplified model which incorporates the moment-axial tension interaction of the double-span beams in a column-removed steel frame is presented in this paper. To this end, material and geometric nonlinear parametric finite element analyses were conducted for the double-span beams by changing the beam span to depth ratio and the beam size within some practical ranges. The beam span to depth ratio was shown to be the most influential factor governing the catenary action of the double-span beams. Based on the parametric analysis results, a simplified piece-wise linear model which can reasonably describe the vertical resisting force versus the beam chord rotation relationship was proposed. It was also shown that the proposed method can readily be used for the energy-based progressive collapse analysis of steel moment frames.

  • It is very important to differentiate of DNA derived from live or dead bacteria within mixed microbial communities in aquatic environments. Ethidium monoazide (EMA) is a DNA intercalating agent and the treatment of EMA with strong visible light cleaves the genomic DNA of bacteria. In dead bacterial cells, EMA intercalates into the genomic DNA, induces the cleavage of DNA, and inhibits the PCR amplification. In this study, we developed the EMA-PCR and EMA real-time PCR to detect the DNA derived from viable Escherichia coli (E.coli) in mixed cultures of live and dead E.coli. The treatment of EMA, $50{\mu}g/mL$, and 650 W visible halogen light exposure for 2 minutes cleaved the genomic DNA derived from heat killed E.coli but did not those of live E.coli. EMA-PCR could detect the DNA from live E.coli in mixed culture samples of live and dead E.coli at various ratio and there was no DNA amplification in only dead E.coli cultures. Similar results were observed in EMA real-time PCR. Further studies are needed to develop various EMA-PCR methods to detect viable waterborne pathogens such as Helicobacter pylori, Giardia lamblia, and so on.

  • It is expected that the vehicle safety systems using vehicle-to-vehicle communication can reduce the possibility of vehicle collision and prevent the chain crash by promptly delivering the status of neighboring vehicles. Many IEEE 802.11 DCF based Flooding schemes have been proposed, but they may generally expose the problems that the chances of a chain-collision reaction are sharply increased as the vehicle density has increased. Therefore, this paper proposes the chain-collision prevention scheme using a broadcasting-based adaptive report. The proposed method can adaptively allocate the preoccupancy right based on a quantitative priority order and then promptly deliver the warning messages in neighboring areas. Moreover, it is shown from simulation that the proposed scheme provides the performance gains over the existing Flooding based scheme.

  • Corona-19, a disease caused by 'Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)', was declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) in March 2020, and a real-time polymerase chain reaction test is performed as a diagnostic test for screening and confirmation in most countries. However, not only the target genes and protocols differ by countries, but also the procedures for reading the diagnosis results are diverse, so the criteria for confirmed patients differ by country. Therefore, in this review, we discussed the target genes, test techniques, and diagnostic criteria for each country notified by WHO. And the specificity and sensitivity, limits of detection, positive and negative controls, false positive bacteria candidates, and specimens, and the specifics of the control setting were also described. In addition, the characteristics of Korea's test were compared to each country's one. Finally, in order to obtain the same diagnosis result for SARS-CoV-2 in the future, standardized diagnosis methods and result interpretations for Corona-19 diagnosis were proposed.
