Simulation Experiments for Ubiquitous Traffic Flow Management (유비쿼터스 환경에서 최적교통관리를 위한 시뮬레이션 평가)

  • The ubiquitous transportation system environments make it possible to collect each vehicle's position and velocity data and to perform more sophisticated traffic flow management at individual vehicle or platoon level through V2V and V2I communications. The VISSIM simulation experiments were performed to address the issues in developing the preventive congestion management algorithm proposed in the companion paper. Traffic flow stability measures were developed based on the platoon profile, which enables us to explicitly consider traffic flow stability in traffic flow management. Traffic flow management strategies according to the traffic flow states were proposed: Maintain the equilibrium speed for free flow state, maintain the traffic flow stability by platoon control for critical state, and surpress the shock wave propagation for congested state. And finally potential benefit of the proposed traffic flow management scheme was evaluated based on the simulation experiment results. It is considered that extensive field experiments should be performed to confirm the simulated results.

A Study on Describing Uninterrupted Traffic Flows using Macroscopic Models (연속교통류 재현을 위한 거시적 모형의 비교 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the performance of macroscopic traffic flow models with the analytical and field data. Five candidate models were selected as follows ; Lax Method Model, Upwind Scheme Model, Hilliges'Model, Papageorgiou's Model, and Cell-Transmission Model. In the analytical test scenario, the traffic condition was assumed that could cause the building and dissipation of queue, and each model was compared with analytical solutions and the numerical results. An analytical test indicated that both simple continuum and high order continuum models are able to reproduce queue building and dissipating behavior in a reasonable way A field test has shown that Upwind and Papageorgiou's model show similar performances. Considering the simplicity in model formulation and numerical computation, we firstly recommend Upwind scheme model , and secondly Papageorgiou's model that performed will to represent traffic flow in tests as candidate models for further development of simulation model for Naebu expressway in Seoul.

  • Predictive information on the freeway incident impacts can be a critical criterion in selecting travel options for users and in operating transportation system for operators. Provided properly, users can select time-effective route and operators can effectively run the system efficiently. In this study, a model is proposed to predict freeway incident impacts. The predictive model for incident impacts is based on short-term prediction. The proposed models are examined using MARE. The analysis results suggest that the models are accurate enough to be deployed in a real-world. The development of microscopic models to predict incident effects is expected to help minimize traffic delay and mitigate related social costs.

  • Recently, there has been a worldwide increase in research and development on automated vehicles for commercialization. It is expected that the use of level 3 autonomous vehicles on continuous-flow roads will be introduced and will increase. Consequently, various studies have been conducted to investigate the impact of mixed traffic flow with automated vehicles based on the market penetration rate (MPR). However, these studies have been conducted independently, and the results have shown different trends. Therefore, this study attempted a quantitative analysis of the impact of automated vehicles on mixed traffic flow on uninterrupted roads through a meta-analysis. The results showed that the effect size estimated from an MPR of 75% or higher was statistically significant.

Developing Higher-Order Continuum Models for Describing Traffic Flow Behavior at Lane Drops Using Momentum Equation (Momentum Equation을 이용한 차로감소구간 교통류의 Higher-Order Continuum 모형 개발)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a improved high-order continuum model among macroscopic traffic flow models. This study was mainly performed for uninterrupted flow. In the first step, the proposed model described traffic flow at dropped lane. (no exits) It was possible to describe the traffic flow during short-term considering lane change. The proposed model was based on Payne's model. Our model was newly applied to uninterrupted traffic flow in consideration of geometry condition and driver behavior. It is possible to establish efficient control strategies, simulation and assess the effects of geometric improvements using this model. This model was simulated with field data for the actual adaption. The results of the model tests, traffic volume and density is suitably represented. we think that the results in the article can be led to predicting the situation in the near future.

  • 2011년 4대강 다기능보 설치에 따라 배수영향을 받는 구간은 기존의 측정방법으로는 유량측정이 어려워 보 구간별로 자동유량측정시설을 설치하여 실시간으로 유량을 생산하고 있다. 하지만 현재 수질개선 및 하천 자연화를 위해 보 운영수위를 저하시켰다. 이에 수위 저하에 따른 측정영역 한계로 정상적인 운영에 어려움이 발생하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 낙동강 합천창녕보 영향 구간 내 합천군(율지교), 합천군(적포교) 지점을 대상으로 상하류 유량관계를 활용하여 결측 및 오측자료를 보완하고자 한다. 대상지점은 2018년 수문개방에 따른 수위저하로 인한 결측과 부유물에 걸림에 의한 유속자료 오측으로 자료의 보완이 필요하였다. 이로 인해 자료 보완을 위하여 각 지점의 환산유량을 이용하여 경향성 검토를 하였으며, 상하류 환산유량과 검보정 측정성과와의 관계를 활용한 관계식을 개발하여 유량을 산정하였다. 산정된 유량과 검보정 측정결과 상관도(R2)는 0.95 이상으로 나타나 매우 합리적으로 판단되나 수문조작 시에 일부 편차는 보인다는 결과를 나타냈다. 단기적인 자료보완은 품질관리를 통해 다양한 방법으로 가능하지만 상하류 유량관계를 활용한 방법이 장기적인 자료를 보완하는 방법으로 적절하다고 판단된다. 향후 보완방법을 다른 보 구간의 지점에도 적용하여 보 수위저하에 따른 시설물 개선공사가 진행되는 동안 실시간 유량자료의 제공으로 연속적인 유량자료 생산이 가능하도록 하고자 한다.

Developing a Freeway Flow Management Scheme Under Ubiquitous System Environments (유비쿼터스 환경에서의 연속류 적정속도 관리 기술 개발)

  • The ubiquitous transportation system environments make it possible to collect each vehicle's position and velocity data and to perform more sophisticated traffic flow management at the individual vehicle or platoon level through vehicle to vehicle (V2V) and vehicle to infrastructure (V2I) communication. It is necessary to develop a traffic flow management scheme to take advantage of the ubiquitous transportation system environments. This paper proposes an algorithm to advise the optimal speed for each vehicle according to the traffic flow condition. The algorithm aims to stabilize the traffic flow by advising the equilibrium speed to the vehicles speeding or crawling under freely flowing condition. And it aims to prevent or at least alleviate the shockwave propagation by advising the optimal speed that should dampen the speed drop under critical flow conditions. This paper builds a simulation testbed and performs some simulation experiments for the proposed algorithm. The proposed algorithm shows the expected results in terms of travel time reduction and congestion alleviation.

Methodology for Real-time Detection of Changes in Dynamic Traffic Flow Using Turning Point Analysis (Turning Point Analysis를 이용한 실시간 교통량 변화 검지 방법론 개발)

  • Maximum traffic flow rate is an important performance measure of operational status in transport networks, and has been considered as a key parameter for transportation operation since a bottleneck in congestion decreases maximum traffic flow rate. Although previous studies for traffic flow analysis have been widely conducted, a detection method for changes in dynamic traffic flow has been still veiled. This paper explores the dynamic traffic flow detection that can be utilized for various traffic operational strategies. Turning point analysis (TPA), as a statistical method, is applied to detect the changes in traffic flow rate. In TPA, Bayesian approach is employed and vehicle arrival is assumed to follow Poisson distribution. To examine the performance of the TPA method, traffic flow data from Jayuro urban expressway were obtained and applied. We propose a novel methodology to detect turning points of dynamic traffic flow in real time using TPA. The results showed that the turning points identified in real-time detected the changes in traffic flow rate. We expect that the proposed methodology has wide application in traffic operation systems such as ramp-metering and variable lane control.

  • 댐은 일반적으로 하천관리에 있어서 인간에게 용수를 공급하고 홍수를 조절하는 등의 발전을 목적으로 건설되어 운영되고 있다. 그러나 하류하천은 댐 건설에 의해 흐름에 대한 연속성이 차단되어 첨두 홍수량과 유사량이 현저하게 감소한다. 첨두 홍수량의 감소로 퇴적된 유사는 이동하지 못해 고착화가 진행되고 식생이 침입하여 번성하게 된다. 하천에 식생이 발달하게 되면, 안정성이 증가하고 생태계 서식처를 형성하며 하천경관을 개선시키는 이점이 있다. 그러나 조도의 증가와 통수능의 감소로 인한 유속감소와 수위상승을 발생시켜 홍수범람을 야기할 수 있다. 따라서 이러한 상황에 대응하기 위해서는 식생대의 밀도에 따른 흐름을 분석하여 바람직한 하천관리방안 연구가 필요할 것으로 판단된다. 본 연구에서는 2차원 흐름모형을 활용하여 황강 합천조정지댐 직하류 구간의 수목군을 고려한 부정류 계산을 통해 하도의 수위 및 유속을 예측모의하는 방법론을 제시하고 모의결과를 분석하였다. 상류단 경계조건은 과거 집중호우로 인하여 대홍수가 발생하였던 2020년 합천조정지댐 방류량 중 첨두발생 기간의 유량을 입력하였으며, 하도의 식생밀도를 산정하고 입력하기 위해 현장조사를 수행하였다. 수치모의 시 식생밀도는 총 4가지 Case(식생현황, 전체벌채, 식생개선, 식생존치)로 나누어 모의를 수행하였다. 모의결과, 직하류 만곡부 유입구간에서 외측으로 흐름이 집중되어 수심과 유속이 증가하였으며, 만곡부 외측의 식생대로 인해 식생대에서는 유속이 감소하고 수심이 증가하며, 식생대 주변 하류의 내측으로 흐름이 집중되어 수심과 유속이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서는 합천조정지댐의 실운영방류량과 황강의 실제식생밀도를 반영하여 수치모의를 하였기 때문에 흐름과 식생관리에 따른 실무적 대책방안 마련에 도움이 될 것으로 판단된다. 또한, 본 연구에서 활용한 분석방법과 결과들은 합리적인 하천관리방안을 구축하기 위한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

  • Image-based traffic information collection systems have entered widespread adoption and use in many countries since these systems are not only capable of replacing existing loop-based detectors which have limitations in management and administration, but are also capable of providing and managing a wide variety of traffic related information. In addition, these systems are expanding rapidly in terms of purpose and scope of use. Currently, the utilization of image processing technology in the field of traffic accident management is limited to installing surveillance cameras on locations where traffic accidents are expected to occur and digitalizing of recorded data. Accurately recording the sequence of situations around a traffic accident in a freeway and then objectively and clearly analyzing how such accident occurred is more urgent and important than anything else in resolving a traffic accident. Therefore, in this research, existing technologies, this freeway attribute, velocity changes, volume changes, occupancy changes reflect judge the primary. Furthermore, We pointed out by many past researches while presenting and implementing an active and environmentally adaptive methodology capable of effectively reducing false detection situations which frequently occur even with the Gaussian Mixture model analytical method which has been considered the best among well-known environmental obstacle reduction methods. Therefore, in this way, the accident was the final decision. Also, environmental factors occur frequently, and with the index finger situations, effectively reducing that can actively and environmentally adaptive techniques through accident final judgment. This implementation of the evaluate performance of the experiment road of 12 incidents in simulated and the jang-hang IC's real-time accident experiment. As a result, the do well detection 93.33%, false alarm 6.7% as showed high reliability.
