발포금속의 현황과 장래 The Recently and future application of Metal Foams

  • 발포금속은 1948년에 Sosnik에 의해 알루미늄에 수은을 증발시키는 방법으로 발포 알루미늄을 제조한 이래, 1951년 Elliot에 의해 진보된 방식인 발포 매개체를 용탕에혼입하는 방법으로 발포금속을 제조하기 시작하였다. 현재 이들 선진국가의 생산방법 및 현황은 균질 기공의 조절, 연속주조 방식과 원가절감, 그리고 제조기술의 진보를 통하여 다양한 분야에 적용되고 있다. 그러나 실용화를 위해서는 요구특성을 만족하고 동시에 가격 경쟁력을 가진 제조기술의 보유 및 개발과 독특한 특성을활용한 새로운 적용 분야의 개척이 필요하다고 생각되며, 이를 위해 Harvard, MIT, Aachen, HMI 등 구미 유수 대학과 NASA, 미국방성등의 연구기관, ERG, 신강(新鋼) wire등 산업체를 중심으로제조 및 특성평가에 관한 기초연구와 활용방안이 활발히 모색중에 있다. 그리고 일부 자동차 생산 업체를중심으로 발포금속을 적용한 초경량, 에너지 절감형의 자동차 부품 소재,항공기 방열판 등에 대한 연구가 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 특히 금속 기체의 GASAR 공법은 Lotus 공법으로 Osaka 대학에서 개발되어 열교환기, 항공기, 방열기 등으로 응용이 확대되고 있다 국내에서 완제품생산은 실내장식용 복합패널로서 한소 프라임이 운영상의 문제로 생산을 중단하였으며, 유닉슨(주), 금강(주)에서 Batch식, 금성산업에서 Pot식이 일부 생산 및 연구가 진행되었으나 현재는 본연구실의 협조로 (주) 폼텍에서 발포패널을 주로 생산하고 있고 (주)드림메탈과 (주)아크로폼텍에서일부 생산되고, (주)동일알루미늄에서는 폐 scrap을 이용한 발포 Al 제조가 연구단계에 있다. 생기원에서는 분말 가열 흡음패널이 개발되었으나 강도와 내열성이 낮아 이들 특성을 향상시크는 연구가 진행중이다. 이들 제품은 성능상으로는 동양강판의 흡음패널과 KIMM의 필터용은연구개발이 낮은 수준이며, 본 연구팀과 공동 개발한 (주)폼텍의 복합패널은 10여 가지의 실용특허로 건축마감재로서 오히려 선진국수준을능가한 상태이다, 한편, 발포금속 기능성 개발은, 이들이 가지고 있는 우수한 특성 때문에 군수용으로부터 민수 산업용까지 전분야에 적용이 가능한 소재이므로 수요처를확장하고 있으므로 제품의 균질성, 안정성과 기능성 개발 향상을 위해 지속적이고 체계적인 연구가 필요하다고 생각된다.

A Study of Performance Characteristics for Electronic Personal Dosimeters in Photon and Electron Radiation Field (광자 및 베타 방사선에 대한 전자개인선량계의 성능특성연구)

  • TLD and film badges have been traditionally used as formal dosimeters in personal monitoring and are still most widely used. Recently, electronic personal dosimeters based upon Si diode or miniature G-M tube were developed and are getting attractions due to their merits of active nature ; indication of dose rates and the commutative dose, and facilitation of record keeping and radiological control. Response characteristics of the electronic dosimeters including reproducibility, accuracy, linearity, energy and angular dependencies, detection threshold, and response time were examined for three commercial types ; EPD2, STEPHEN6000, and PD-3i. The results were compared with the relevant requirements of IEC standards and Ontario Hydro standards to conclude that their general performances were good. Some specific deficiencies, e.g. incapability of shallow dose measurement of STEPHEN6000, and PD-3i, however, should be corrected to be used as a formal dosimeter.

Productive Structure and energy Storage of the Delta of Nak Dong River (낙동강 하류 삼각주지역 갈대초지의 생산구조와 에너지저장에 관한 연구)

  • In the grassland ecosystem dominated by Phragmites longivalvis in the delta of Nak Dong River, the production, decomposition, and accumulation of organic were estimated by the theoretical analysis. The amounts of organic carbon and organic matter of litter are $1020.43g/m^2\;and\;591.90g/m^2$, respectively. The amounts of organic matter and organic carbon on the grassland floor is $1154.96g/m^2\;and\;669.93g/m^2$, the ratio of annual litter production 'L' to the amount of accumulation on the top mineral soil (F, H and $A_2$ horizons) provided estimates of decay constant k. Constant k is 0.884 in the Phragmites longivalvis community. The vertical levels of organic matter and organic carbon is the highest in 120-140 cm of photosythetic system and in 0-20 cm of non-photosyntic system.

  • Cloud computing systems require a huge number of storage servers due to the growing implications of power bills, carbon emissions, and logistics of data centers. These considerations have motivated researchers to improve the energy efficiency of storage servers. Most servers use a lot of power irrespective of the amount of computing that they are doing, and one important goal is to redesign servers to be power-proportional. However, Research on large-scale storage systems is hampered by their cost. It is therefore desirable to develop a scalable test-bed for evaluating the power consumption of large-scale storage systems. We are building on open-source projects to construct a test-bed which will contribute to the assessment of power consumption in tiered storage systems. Integrating the cloud application platform can easily extend the proposed testbed laying a foundation for the design and evaluation of low-power storage servers.

  • The Vegetation cover is a significant factor to comprehend characteristics of the ground surface for meterological and hydrological models, which measure energy in the atmosphere or predict the runoff of ground surface. Deardorff introduced vegetation cover fraction to quantitatively comprehend the vegetation cover in 1978. After Deardorff, most of previous researches were conducted on low-resolution or high-resolution images, but only few researches on Landsat that are in medium-resolution images. Therefore, this study aims to investigate a way of calculating the vegetation cover fraction by using NDVI of Landsat images, which were hardly handled previously. For accurate vegetation cover fraction, we compared the evaluated parameters from this study with past vegetation cover fraction parameters that have been calculated for using NDVI of Landsat OLI images. The result of research was shown that NDVI is quite correlated with the vegetation fraction cover in the previous researches. In fact, RMSE of vegetation cover fraction values that obtained through the suggested parameters on this study showed the highest accuracy of 7.3% among all the cases.

Distribution of Marine Debris collected from the Sandbar Coastline of Nakdong River Estuary after the Typhoons' Passage (태풍 내습후 낙동강 하구 사주해안의 쓰레기 분포)

  • Using field observations, this study estimated the total weight and types of marine debris along the coast of Jinu Island in the Nakdong River Estuary after typhoons Usagi and Nari had passed. A numerical wave model was used to calculate the spatial wave height distribution at the time of the typhoons' passage. This study found that the total accumulation rate of marine debris deposited on the coast after the two typhoons had passed was about $5,769.86\;kg/km^2/day$ at this site, which was 14.42 times as high as that in normal weather. The wave height distribution in the sea off Jinu Island, based on numerical modeling, was $4.1{\sim}3.5\;m$, which was 1.0-2.5 times greater than for the case of other islands. Therefore, it is likely that the concentration of wave energy led to the deposition of marine debris.

MUN 수준이 번식에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

  • 최근 적절한 사양관리를 위해서 유중 요소태질소 수준(MUN)과 유단백을 이용하여 사료 내 에너지와 단백질의 균형을 평가하는 지표로 활용하고 있으며 요소태질소 수준이 정상보다 크게 높거나 낮았을 때 번식능력이 저하되기 때문에 번식효율의 지표로서 활용되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 우유내 요소태질소 수준이 번식장애에 미치는 영향을 조사하여 요소태질소 수준을 번식장애의 진단지표로 활용하고자 실시하였다. 본 실험에 공시된 우유시료는 경기도 안성시와 이천시에 소재한 낙농목장에서 사육중인 조사두수를 대상으로 개체당 약 30~50$m\ell$의 우유를 채유하고 냉장보관하여 실험실로 운반하였다. 우유의 분석은 유성분분석기(Fosscomb : 4000, Fossmatic 5000, Denmark)를 이용하여 우유의 일반성분인 유지방, 유당, 유단백, 무지고형분, 총고형분, 빙점, 유중요소태질소, 구연산과 체세포를 동시에 분석하였다. 번식장애우의 진단은 낙농가가 번식장애우로 분류한 개체를 대상으로 직장검사 및 초음파 진단기를 이용하여 진단하였다. MUN준에 따른 공태일수의 조사 결과 MUN수준이 7이하 군의 공태일수가 88.98$\pm$120.68로 7-16의 92.20$\pm$105.39와 16이상의 94.42$\pm$87.51보다 다소 낮은 결과를 나타냈다. 또한 번식장애우의 발생빈도와 유성분 분석결과를 살펴보면 낙농가가 번식장애우로 분류한 68두를 진단한 결과 발정발견을 하지 못하여 번식장애우로 분류된 두수가 30두(44.1%)와 비정상두수 38두(55.9%)로 나타났으며 비정상 두수 중 난포난종이 19두(27.9%)로 영구항체6두(8.8%), 자궁내막염(10.3%), 자궁축농증 6두(8.8%)보다 많은 것으로 나타났다. 번식장애우의 유성분 분석결과 자궁축농증이 있는 개체의 유단백 평균이 3.43$\pm$0.35로 다른군에 비해 높았으며 영구항체가 있는 개체군의 MUN수준이 7.73$\pm$8.58로 다른군의 10.84$\pm$4.92, 10.89$\pm$7.38와 10.61$\pm$5.52에 비해 낮게 나타났다.

Performance of Interference Mitigation using Optical Relay and Optical Beamforming in Visible Light Communication Systems (가시광 통신 시스템에서 Optical Relay와 Optical Beamforming을 통한 간섭 완화 성능)

  • The VLC (visible light communication) system is communication technology using visible rays (RGB) that come out in LED device. It is energy curtailment effect and possible in ubiquitous network service applications. Also, VLC system has the above advantage about that the communication throughout the whole room is enabled by high power lighting and lighting equipment with white colored LED which are easy to install and have good outward appearance. However, the signal detection performance for the receiver near the network of transmitter boundary is severely degraded and the transmission efficiency decreased due to the influence of the interference signal from the adjacent networks. In this paper, we propose an interference mitigation method with optical relay and optical beamforming scheme in VLC systems, and evaluate the reception performance. For the system BER, the proposed system demonstrates the performance enhancement compared to the not using the optical relay and optical beamforming scheme, and SNR performance gain and higher channel capacity is achieved.

Seismic Performance Assessment of Roof-Level Joints with Steel Fiber-Reinforced High-Strength Concrete (강섬유보강 고강도콘크리트를 적용한 최상층 접합부의 내진성능 평가)

  • This study was conducted to verify seismic performance of special moment frame's joints at roof-level with high-strength concrete and SD600 bars. K-RC-H was designed according to the seismic code and K-HPFRC-H had 150% of the original hoop spacing and 1.0% steel fiber volume fraction compared with K-RC-H. Both specimens had remarkable seismic performance without noticeable decrease in moment, but with very good energy dissipation before rebar failure. The U-bars in the joint sufficiently constrained rebar's action that pushed the cover upward. SD600 bars with $1.25l_{dt}$ had minimum slip in the joint. It was considered that the steel fiber contributed to improvement of the bending moment and joint shear distortion, and the result showed that it would be possible to increase the hoop spacing to 150% of the regular spacing.

Framing an Issue of Building a Nuclear Waste Site on Television News (핵폐기장 유치에 대한 텔레비전 뉴스 프레임 분석 -KBS, MBC의 전국 및 지역(전북지역) 뉴스를 중심으로-)

  • This study explored how television news constructed an issue of the building of a nuclear waste facility on Wido, an issue which displayed a social conflict in the latter half of the year 2003. To do this, this study conducted frame analysis on KBS and MBC main news including national and local ones, broadcasted from 11 July, 2003 to 10 December, 2003. It was found that television news tended to stress violent protests against site designation and social disorder rather than the causes of a conflict and its solutions. Therefore, news reporting excluded fundamental reasons of conflict such as the governmental decision-making process of site designation, geological suitability, safety issue and nuclear energy policy, emphasizing the confrontation and clash between pro and con groups of site designation. This indicates that television news defines an issue of the building of a nuclear waste facility as the local conflict between groups, the police and demonstrators, or neighbors who approve and protest the site designation, not as the national issue of nuclear policy.
