This research evaluates the sustainability of gasifying livestock manure to produce fuel gas from an economic and carbon emission perspective. The entire process, including gasification, fuel gas purification, and pipeline installation to transport the produced fuel gas to the demanding industrial complex, is analyzed for realistic feasibility. The study is conducted using an ASPEN PLUS simulation with experimental data. The results of the economic and CO2 life cycle assessments confirm that the fuel gas produced from livestock manure is competitive with natural gas despite having a lower calorific value. When used as a fuel with a high hydrogen content, the fuel gas emits less CO2 per calorific value, making it more environmentally friendly. A scenario analysis is also performed to determine the expected economics, with price competitiveness being influenced by several factors. Although a significant decrease in natural gas prices could reduce the price competitiveness of the proposed process, it can still be supported by government policies. The cash flow analysis also confirms the economic viability of the process.

This paper is intended to study how well the routing protocol supplied in wireless mesh networks can evade interference path along the applied routing metric. Wireless mesh networks, unlike existing network techniques, has the characteristics that node movement is less and energy effect is limited. Therefore. this type of network requires path configuring technique to reflect such network characteristics and new routing metric to determine proper path. Routing metric proposed recently is designed to produce link quality accurately, but it configures path not considering the traffic situation of adjacent nodes. Thus. this technique has the problems of reduced transfer rate and delay between terminals occurring due to frequent traffic chaos by the interference of adjacent nodes. Therefore, this paper proposes metric that configures routing path by finding like metric that can transfer data effectively by considering the traffic situation of adjacent nodes. We confirmed through simulation that the proposed routing metric reduces the delay between terminals via the path that evades the traffic interference of adjacent node.

The long-term stability of PSCs against visual and UV light, moisture, electrical bias and high temperature is an important issue for commercialization. In particular, since the operation temperature of solar cell can rise above 85℃, a study on thermal stability is required. In this study, the cause of thermal-induced degradation of PSCs was investigated using the SCAPS-1D simulation tool. First, PSCs of TiO2/CH3NH3PbI3/Spiro-OMeTAD/Au structure were exposed to a constant temperature of 85℃ to observe changes in conversion efficiency and quantum efficiency. Because the EQE reduction above 500 nm was remarkable, we simulated PSCs performance as a function of lifetime, doping density of perovskite and spiro-OMeTAD. Consequently, the main cause of thermal-induced degradation is considered to be the change in the perovskite doping concentration and lifetime due to ion migration of perovskite.

Modern bulletproof armor must be light and have excellent penetration resistance to ensure the mobility and safety of soldiers and military vehicles. The ballistic performance of heterogeneous structures of laminated flat plates as bulletproof armor depends on the arrangement of constituent materials for the same weight. In this study, we analyze bulletproof performance according to the stacking sequence of laminated bulletproof armor composed of Kevlar, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, and ethylene-vinyl-acetate foam. A ballistic analysis was performed by colliding a 7.62 × 51 mm NATO cartridge's M80 bullet at a speed of 856 m/s with six lamination arrangements with constituent materials thicknesses of 5 mm and 6.5 mm. To evaluate the bulletproof performance, the residual speed and residual energy of the projectile that penetrated the heterogeneous laminated flat plates were measured. Simulation results confirmed that the laminated structure with a stacking sequence of Kevlar, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, and ethylene-vinyl-acetate foam had the best bulletproof performance for the same weight.

In this study, The details for a seismic adapter designed to easily connect concrete structures and reinforcement materials for the in-plane reinforcement of aged structures were proposed. Proposed seismic adapter was tested for performance using a dynamic simulation on a 2-story column-beam structure, scaled to half of the real size. The experimental results showed that the reinforced test specimens using the seismic adapter improved their energy dissipation capacity by 3.5 times compared to the non-reinforced specimens. It was confirmed that the seismic adapter experienced no damage within its general usage range, thus proving its effectiveness. Subsequently, upon loading until the limit of deformation (a deformation angle of 3.3%), it was observed that one of the M10 bolts connecting the adapter and the reinforcement at the lower part of the first floor broke. Considering this finding, when applying seismic retrofitting in real situations, emphasis should be placed on the design of the bolts and anchors connecting the seismic adapter. This aspect warrants further research for validation.

Smart grid that supports efficient energy production and management is used in various fields and industries. However, because of the environment in which services are provided through open networks, it is essential to resolve trust issues regarding security vulnerabilities and privacy preservation. In particular, the identification information of smart meter is managed by a centralized server, which makes it vulnerable to security attacks such as device stolen, data forgery, alteration, and deletion. To solve these problems, this paper proposes a blockchain based authentication protocol for a smart meter. The proposed scheme issues an unique decentralized identifiers (DIDs) for individual smart meter through blockchain and utilizes a random values based on physical unclonable function (PUF) to strengthen the integrity and reliability of data. In addition, we analyze the security of the proposed scheme using informal security analysis and AVISPA simulation, and show the efficiency of the proposed scheme by comparing with related work.

In this study, we aim to derive the descriptor vector conditions that can simultaneously achieve the efficiency and accuracy of artificial Neural Network Potentials (NNP). The material system selected is silicon, a highly applicable material in various industries. Atomic structure-dependent energy data for training artificial neural networks were generated through density functional theory calculations. Behler-Parrinello type atomic-centered symmetric functions were employed as descriptors, and various length vector NNPs were generated. These NNPs were applied to reproduce the structure and mechanical properties of silicon materials in molecular dynamics simulations. In our findings, the minimum vector length for achieving both learning and computational efficiency while maintaining property reproducibility is approximately 50. It was also observed that, for the same conditions, incorporating more angle-dependent symmetric functions into the descriptor vector, could enhance the accuracy of NNP. Our results can provide guidelines for optimizing the conditions of descriptor vectors to achieve both efficiency and accuracy of NNP, simultaneously.
Smart cities are attracting attention as a new economic growth engine based on new technologies and means to solve side effects of urbanization such as a surge in energy consumption, deepening environmental pollution, and an increase in crime rates. In particular, as demand for non-face-to-face services increases due to COVID-19, the role of smart cities that can provide various online and offline non-face-to-face services is becoming more important. Therefore, this study defined smart city non-face-to-face services based on literature research on the concept and underlying technology of smart city, and analyzed consumer utility for each service using Conjoint analysis. In particular, differences in user preferences between Sejong City and Busan City, which are currently designated as national smart city pilot cities in Korea, were compared and analyzed, and based on the derived results, measures to improve the competitiveness of smart city services were suggested.

In this study, we predicted PTO power requirements based on torque predicted by the discrete element method and the multi-body dynamics coupling method. Six different scenarios were simulated to predict PTO power requirements in different soil conditions. The first scenario was a tillage operation on cohesionless soil, and the field was modeled using the Hertz-Mindlin contact model. In the second through sixth scenarios, tillage operations were performed on viscous soils, and the field was represented by the Hertz-Mindlin + JKR model for cohesion. To check the influence of surface energy, a parameter to reproduce cohesion, on the power requirement, a simple regression analysis was performed. The significance and appropriateness of the regression model were checked and found to be acceptable. The study findings are expected to be used in design optimization studies of agricultural machinery by predicting power requirements using the discrete element method and the multi-body dynamics coupling method and analyzing the effect of soil cohesion on the power requirement.
The purpose of this study was to confirm the feasibility of imaging of therapy region from the boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) using the measurement of the prompt gamma ray depending on the neutron flux. Through the Monte Carlo simulation, we performed the verification of physical phenomena from the BNCT; (1) the effects of neutron according to the existence of boron uptake region (BUR), (2) the internal and external measurement of prompt gamma ray dose, (3) the energy spectrum by the prompt gamma ray. All simulation results were deducted using the Monte Carlo n-particle extended (MCNPX, Ver.2.6.0, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los Alamos, NM, USA) simulation tool. The virtual water phantom, thermal neutron source, and BURs were simulated using the MCNPX. The energy of the thermal neutron source was defined as below 1 eV with 2,000,000 n/sec flux. The prompt gamma ray was measured with the direction of beam path in the water phantom. The detector material was defined as the lutetium-yttrium oxyorthosilicate (Lu0,6Y1,4Si0,5:Ce; LYSO) scintillator with lead shielding for the collimation. The BUR's height was 5 cm with the 28 frames (bin: 0.18 cm) for the dose calculation. The neutron flux was decreased dramatically at the shallow region of BUR. In addition, the dose of prompt gamma ray was confirmed at the 9 cm depth from water surface, which is the start point of the BUR. In the energy spectrum, the prompt gamma ray peak of the 478 keV was appeared clearly with full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the 41 keV (energy resolution: 8.5%). In conclusion, the therapy region can be monitored by the gamma camera and single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) using the measurement of the prompt gamma ray during the BNCT.
