The level of SCM activities was estimated through the examination of seven factors: commitment and leadership of a top management, flexibility of management, understanding of demand characteristics, integrated management organization, information system, cooperative partnership and communication and exchange of opinion. The logistics performance was measured by improvement in customer service(on time delivery ratio of products, returning rate, treat ratio for A/S, order fill rate, substitute providing capability for being out of stock) and delivery cost reduction. Through questionnaire survey, a total of 214 data for 108 companies of three company types were collected: 46 for 40 fabric suppliers, 123 for 64 apparel manufacturers and 45 for 4 retailers. The analysis of SCM activity levels showed that fabric suppliers had higher degrees in the factor of understanding of demand characteristics, and apparel manufacturers had higher degrees in the factor of information systems. For retailers, the factor of communication and exchange of opinion represented higher degrees. The study on relationship between the SCM activity levels and logistics performance showed that the SCM activity factor of understanding of demand characteristics greatly improved a substitute providing capability for being out of stock in fabric suppliers, and information system improved a substitute providing capability for being out of stock, on time delivery ratio of products and order fill rate in apparel manufacturers. In retailers, the SCM activity factor of understanding of demand characteristics decreased returning rate highly and improved on time delivery ratio of products. The study results showed that SCM activities in fashion industry brought more improvement in customer service levels rather than in delivery cost reduction.

  • The study is about the grading methods for the apparel CAD systems. So far the shift grading is used mostly in the industry. But the split grading has its advantage such as less data Input which is required for grading. So the research is aimed to prove that the split grading is not accurate than the shift grading and more efficient in speed, and to give the guidance of the split grading so that the split grading method can be applied in future apparel CAD systems more often. The results of the research were: 1. Split yarding produced graded patterns as accurate as shift grading. Yet split grading was more efficient and convenient because it required less data input than shift grading. 2. The 10 grading charts were grouped into 3 groups by the bust girth intervals, 3 cm grading, 4 cm grading and 5cm grading. 3. The grading areas were varied depending on the grament designs, gradre's skill and the grading intervals. 4. Guidance for the split grading was suggested.

  • The history of the Korean textile industry is not very long. Its growth only began from the early 1960's. Since then, its production scale and export volume have enpanded enormosly. The textile industry made a great contribution to Korea's sustained economic growth over the past three decades. While expanding rapidly, however, the Korean textile industry went through many difficulties and problems. To survive through interational competition, the textile produce were manufactured on a subcontract basis and prices were set at too low levels. Consequently the profit margins were very small. To meet international competition for the 21st century, the textile industry requires restructuring and a drastic progress has to be made in textile design and technology. To become internationally competitive, the education system for textile design must be improved. The textile schools must be equipped with better technology and facilities so that students may have a hands-on experience and acquire application skills quickly and effectively. Also students should be given an opportunity to work in the industry as an intern. In order to make all these possible, both the government and the industry must be fully supportive. Textile designing can be considered a cultural reflection. This implies that to develop the textile industry requires the elevation of the people's mind and culture. To improve textile technology and to elevate the standard of textile design, the government and the textile schools must make continued effort together.

  • This study analyses support policy and structural change of textile industry in Daegu Kyungbuk region, and suggests major issues for textile industry's innovation. In Daegu Kyungbuk, it was 1999 that a policy, so called Milano Project, in order to promote a textile industry was devised. In 2004, the Regional Industrial Promotion Plan was devised. The plan was born from a view point of establishing a regional innovation system and of promoting the innovative clusters under a knowledge based economy. After then, the Regional Industry Promotion Project or Regional Strategic Industry Promotion Project became a core of regional textile industrial policy. Research results indicated that the first stage Milano project (1999-2003) showed both positive and negative effects. There were no long-term development plan, clear vision and strategy. But, core industrial infrastructure for differentiated product development, such as New product Development Support Center and Dyeing Design Practical Application Center, was constructed. The second stage Daegu Textile Industry Promotion Plan (2004-2008) displayed a significant technological performance and new product sales with the assistance of Kyungbuk province. Also, textile industry revealed positive fruits such as financial structure, productivity, and profitability as a result of strong restructuring. In industrial structure, there was a important change from clothe textile material to industry textile material. Most of textile companies did not showed high capability in CEO's technology innovation intention, entrepreneurship, R&D and human resource competency in compare with other industry. We suggested that Daegu Kyungbuk has to select and concentrate on the high-tech textile material and living textile for sustainable development and competitiveness. We also proposed a confidence and cooperation based innovation network and company oriented innovation cluster.

  • The results of the study of diving the 21st century's Korea fashion market into consumer market, fashion market, and a new marketing strategy are as follows. The 21st consumer market is First, a fashion democracy phenomenon. As many people try to leave unconditional fashion following, consumer show a phenomenon to choose and create their own fashion by subjective judgements. Second, a phenomenon of total fashion pursuit. Consumer in the future are likely to put their goals not in differentiating small item products, but considering various fashion elements based on their individuality and sense of value. Third, world quality-oriented. With the improvement of life level, it accomplishes to emphasize consumers' fashion mind on the world wide popular use of materials, quality, design and brand image. Fourth, with the entrance of neo-rationalism, consumers show increasing trends to emphasize wisdom, solidity in goods strategy pursuing high quality fashion and to demand resonable prices. Fifth, concept-oriented. Consumers are changing into pursuing concept appropriate to individual life scene. Prospecting the composition of the 21st century's fashion market, First, sportive casual zone will draw attention more than any other zone. This is because interest in sports will grow according to the increase of leisure time and the expasion of time and space in the 21st century, and also ecology will become the important issue of sports sense because of human beings's natural habit toward nature. Second, the down aging phenomenon will accelerate its speed as a big trend. Third, a retro phenomenon, a concept contrary to digital and high-tech, will become another big trend for its remake, antique, and classic concept in fashion market with ecology trend. New marketing strategy to cope with changing fashion market is as follows. First, with the trend of borderless concept, borders between apparels are becoming vague, for example, they offer custom-made products to consumers. Second, as more enterprises take the way of gorilla and guerrilla where guerrillas who aim at niche market show up will develop. Basically, they think highly of individual creative study, and pursue the scene adherence with high sensitiveness. However this polarization becomes mutually-supplementing relationship showing gorilla's guerilla movement, and guerilla's gorilla high-tech. Third with the development of value retailing, enterprises pursuing mass merchandising of groups called category killers are expanded and amplified to new product fields, and expand business' share. Fourth, using outsourcing, the trend to use exterior function leaving each enterprise's strength by inspecting its own work is gradually strong. Fifth, with the expansion of none store sale, the entrance of the internet and the CD-ROM sales added to communication sales such as catalogues are specified. An eminent American think tank expect that 5-5% of the total sale of clothes and home goods in 2010 will be done by none store sale. Accordingly, to overcome the problems, First international, global level marketing, Second, the improvement of technology, Third, knowledge-creating marketing are needed.
