  • In this paper, the codebook design method of VQ (vector quantization) is proposed an method to extract feature data of image for multimedia information searching. Conventional VQ codebook design methods are unsuitable to extract the feature data of images because they have too much computation time, memory for vector decoding and blocking effects like DCT (discrete cosine transform). The proposed design method is consists of the feature extraction by WT (wavelet transform) and the data group divide method by PCA (principal component analysis). WT is introduced to remove the blocking effect of an image with high compressing ratio. Computer simulations show that the proposed method has the better performance in processing speed than the VQ design method using SOM (self-organizing map).

  • A wideband continuous-time sigma delta modulator for wireless application is implemented in 130nm CMOS. The SNR for small input signal is improved using a proposed adaptive quantizer which can effectively scale the quantization level. The modulator comprises a second-order loop filter for low power consumption, 4-bit quantizer and DAC for low jitter sensitivity and high linearity. Designed circuit achieves peak SNR of 51.36B with 10MHz signal Bandwidth and 320MHz sampling frequency dissipating 30mW.

  • In sequential speaker classification, the lack of prior information about the speakers poses a challenge for model initialization. To address the challenge, a predetermined generic model set, called Sample Speaker Models, was previously proposed. This approach can be useful for accurate speaker modeling without requiring initial speaker data. However, an optimal method for sampling the models from a generic model pool is still required. To solve this problem, the Speaker Quantization method, motivated by vector quantization, is proposed. Experimental results showed that the new approach outperformed the random sampling approach with 25% relative improvement in error rate on switchboard telephone conversations.

  • The connection between the continuousness of Rabi oscillation and the discontinuity of quantum jumps has long remained one of the conceptual difficulties since the discovery of the quantum physical paradigm. In this study, however, we demonstrate that the behavior of the atom-field composite system gradually changes from the continuous Rabi interaction to the discontinuous quantum jumps as the atom-field coupling strength is reduced. The reduction occurs through enlarging the quantization volume of the mode so that the mode approaches one of the infinitely many modes of the thermal background.
