  • This study aims to explain the effect of mother's child rearing behavior on aggression of young children and to verify the mediating effect of self-control between two variables. For the purpose, 1,524 children who fit this study among children aged 5 through 7th year of the Korean Children's Panel were selected. The data were analyzed by using the hierarchical regression method and the Sobel test. The main findings are as follows. First, the mother's warmth of rearing behavior was shown to decrease aggression of children, while mother's control of rearing behavior had no influence their aggression. Second, It was shown that the self-control of young children had a negative effect on their aggression. Third, self-control was shown to have a partial mediating effect in the relationship between the mother's warmth of rearing behavior and aggression of children. Accordingly, various programs to reduce the aggression of young children were suggested and an alternative plan was proposed to be applied to child care sites.

  • This study was conducted to check the effect of parenting attitudes on oral health behavior on lower grade elementary school students where oral care habits are formed. The subjects of the study were 366 students in the lower grades of elementary school, and the research tools used self-written questionnaires that were modified and supplemented to suit this purpose. Parenting attitudes of parents and lower-grade oral health behavior of elementary school students showed significant amounts of correlation, especially affectionate, autonomous and reasonable parenting attitudes were highly correlated with oral health behaviors(p<0.01). A multiple regression analysis to identify the factors affecting oral health behavior showed that parental attitudes also had a significant effect on the child variables(p<0.01). Therefore, since parenting attitudes are related to children's oral health behaviors, it is believed that measures should be taken to promote oral health education that can be improved by combining them.

As a result of the study, looking at the effect of three-dimensional parenting behavior on children's language ability, first, the authoritative parenting behavior, which provides a clear direction for parents in raising their children, and takes a rational and consistent way, is effective in improving pragmatic language ability appeared to have a positive effect. Second, it was found that authoritarian parenting behavior that strictly controls children's behavior in the direction desired by parents and demands absolute obedience from children did not have a significant effect on the improvement of children's pragmatic language ability. Lastly, it was found that the permissive parenting behavior of the neglect type, which allows children to do whatever they want, has a negative effect on the children's pragmatic language ability. • Despite the diverse system development and improvement initiatives that have been created to improve the environments of child birth and nurturing, the birth rate in Korean society remains low. Some minor teenage single parents give birth and raise children. Teenage single parents are supported by the Single-Parent Family Support Act, but some of their needs are still not being addressed. As each single parent has different backgrounds and socioeconomic characteristics, an investigation is required for developing differentiated support in which they will be considered both parents and children. Therefore, this study identifies the unique problems encountered by teenage parents, focuses on single mothers giving birth, and explores measures that teenage parents can use to be independent members of civil society. Three suggestions are presented for the period from pregnancy and childbearing to parenting. First, there should be an education support plan that will enable them to finish tertiary education, and parent education. Second, measures should be created to initiate a change in direction in indifferent biological(real) fathers: these should enlighten and help them participate in rearing their children. Third, in addition to improvements of the current systems only targeting single parent-family support, which will help differentiate teenage parent support from adolescent single parent-family support, assistance should be given for teenage single parents to grow as a Subject of Rights through tailored independent support programs.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop the indicatives for the analysis of the effects of Gyeonggi-do Book Sharing Project on pre-schoolers of supporter' reading care and thereby, suggest some data useful to the establishment of a reading culture promotion policy in Gyeonggi-do. Preceding studies and cases were reviewed to analyze the effects of the book-sharing project on pre-schoolers of supporter' reading care and thereby, develop some measurement indicatives, and thus, the indicatives were verified by professionals using the Delphi technique. Then, supporter of 3~5 year-old pre-schoolers were sampled from 7 cities and counties in Gyeonggi-do (Pocheon-si, Yangpyeong-gun, Yeoju-si, Dongducheon-si, Gapyeong-gun, Yeoncheon-gun and Yangju-si) to be divided into control and test groups and thereby, their reading care effect indicatives were compared before and after the test. The theoretical background is theory of family literacy, emergent literacy and parenting efficacy. As a result of developing the indicatives for analysis of pre-schoolers of supporter's reading care effects and comparing them for the sample pre-schoolers of supporter, before and after the test, the book-sharing project was found effective in improving reading care. The most difficult problem in pre-schoolers' earlier reading education involves acquisition of reading habit. So, it is deemed necessary to operate a regular book sharing project involving public organization and homes. As a result of developing the indicatives and analyzing the effects of the book-sharing project, it was confirmed that the project would serve to improve pre-schoolers of support's reading care and therefore, this study seems to provide some ground for the operation of a sustainable book-sharing project to narrow the education divide and promote a book reading culture in Gyeonggi-do.

  • The primary goal of the current study was to investigate the longitudinal relationship between household income, main caregiver depression, and youth aggression from the interactionist perspective. The data were derived by combining the 2006, 2009 and 2012 survey waves from the Korean Welfare Panel Study. This data set covered the full span of adolescence from elementary to high school. The study utilized 561 families as the final sample and conducted autoregressive cross-lagged analysis. As a result, the early income status, main caregiver depression and youth aggression were likely maintained over time. Second, the results provided support for a reciprocal relationship between income and main caregiver depression. On the other hand, the reciprocal relationship between main caregiver depression and youth aggression was not found in the current study. Finally, the mediating effect of main caregiver depression between income and youth aggression was not found in the present study. In conclusion, the results of this study support the interactionist model in that the association between family income and main caregiver depression involves reciprocity and mutual influence across time. These findings have major implications for policy and interventions in regards to low-income families.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate how the variables of parenting styles and dependency on the smart phone affect college students' satisfaction to campus life, to seek the better ways for the college students to fit into the new environment, and to offer the practical tips based on our findings. In this study, we applied the regression analysis to verify the relationship among the variables related to the satisfaction to university life and the mediating effect of dependency on the smart phone. The results of this study suggest that the positive rearing attitude, which is the subfactor of parenting styles, has a negative effect on the dependency on the smart phone, and that dependency on the smart phone has a negative effect on the satisfaction to college life. At the same time it is found out that the negative rearing attitude has a positive effect on dependency on the smart phone, and that dependency on the smart phone has a negative effect on the satisfaction to the college life. In addition, the dependency on the smart phone has a partial mediating effect on the relationship between the positive/negative rearing attitudes and dependency on the smart phone. Based on these findings, we recommended the better ways to improve college students' satisfaction to their college lives.
