A Comparison of Learning Styles between Gifted and Non-gifted (영재학생과 일반학생의 학습양식 비교)

  • This study has two purposes: The first is to compare gifted with non-gifted about learning styles and examine differences in the preference of learning styles between group characteristics depending on gender. The second is to examine differences between gifted and non-gifted about the preference of learning styles. The participants were 152 students from the middle schools in A City. 76 students of them belonged to the gifted group and the rest were non-gifted group. LSDI Learning Styles Diagnostic Inventory has been employed as measurement tools. Besides descriptive statistics, ANOVA, ${\chi}^2$ analysis were used to measure items. The results from data analysis are as follows. First, there was difference in learning styles between gifted and non-gifted. Second, there was not difference in the preference of learning styles between groups depending on the gender. Finally, this study discussed the results and their implication, the direction of future research in understanding and interpreting of learning styles for their practical usages.

Relationships among Self-Efficacy and Self-Resilience, Oral Health Promotion Lifestyle in Some High School Students (일부 고등학생의 자기효능감 및 자아탄력성과 구강건강증진 생활양식의 연관성)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the association among high school students' self-efficacy, self-resilience, and oral health promotion lifestyle, identify relevant factors, and provide basic data for oral health promotion programs. The subjects of this study were 287 students, research tool was the structured, anonymous, self-administrated questionnaire. The data were analyzed by SPSSWIN 18.0, Pearson correlation and Hierarchial multiple regression et al. Significant positive correlation was found between self-efficacy and self-resilience and between self-efficacy and oral health promotion lifestyle and positive correlation was also found between self-resilience and oral health promotion lifestyle. Mother's education, past oral health behavior, self-efficacy, and self-resilience affected oral health promotion lifestyle, with the explanatory power of 32.3%. Since self-efficacy and self-resilience are correlated with oral health promotion lifestyle, it is necessary to develop a plan for activating oral health education with the objective of improving the combination of these factors.

  • 정보통신의 발달은 사람들의 생활양식을 변화시키고 있지만 정보와 환경의 급속한 발전에도 불구하고 장애인, 노인 등은 정보화 혜택을 제대로 받지 못하여 소외되고 있다. 전 세계에서는 이러한 문제를 직시하고 정보격차를 좁히기 위한 한 방안으로 웹 접근성의 문제를 제기했고 꾸준히 해결점을 찾고 있지만 우리나라의 경우 이에 대한 연구 노력은 부족한 실정에 있다. 본 연구에서는 두 가지의 웹 접근성 평가도구를 선정하여 사이버대학 웹 사이트를 중심으로 웹 접근성을 평가해 보고 그 평가도구를 비교 분석함으로써 개선방안을 제시하였다.

Development of Integrated CAD framework for ASIC Design (ASIC 설계용 통합 CAD Framework 개발)

  • The CAD tools for ASIC design, which are already developed or will be developed in the future, have their own functions and different working environments in many cases. Therefore, it would be more effective in achieving the final design goal, if we have a system called CAD framework in which these CAD tools are systematically integrated. In this paper, we introduce same novel techniques for integrating systematically such the CAD tools, which are usually developed under UNIX shell environments, into the CAD framework with the standard graphics interface such as X-windows. Some meta languages and script file formats are developed for flexible specification of the system MENU hierarchy and the data dependencies among executable programs. We integrated two existing CAD tools into our CAD framework using the techniques and find out the integrated protype system is working well under the new system environments.

Korean Suicide Risk Screening Tool and its Validity (한국형 자살위험 스크리닝 도구와 타당성)

  • The early detection of suicidal ideation is essential for the prevention of suicide. This study aimed to develop a brief screening tool that can be easily administered in medical settings. The Suicide Risk Screening Tool was designed for use by physicians to provide a screening process that would be reliable, standardized, quick and feasible to implement. A 2-item screening tool was derived from the Screening for Depression and Thoughts of Suicide in the Norton Sound region of Alaska, USA. The scale was modified to reflect the current situation in Korea including the elimination of the personal identification number, and was labeled the Korean Suicide Risk Screening Tool. Its reliability and applicability for medical setting were examined by explanatory study of 7 clinicians. Its validity was examined among a further 325 patients of four different medical institutions, using the results of interviewer-administered survey included demographic, clinical characteristics, and present mental status as the external criterion. A brief 2-item suicide risk screening tool can be used by mental and non-mental health clinicians to accurately detect suicidality in patients.

  • This paper illustrates some practical geographic information system (GIS) applications for aiding fishery managers and coastal area planners in analysing the likely control scheme of coastal farming areas, and in providing a flexible framework for decision making on fishery development and zoning issues. The effective management of marine farming operation is vitally important since it can greatly influence economic availability by determining capital outlay and by affecting running costs, rates of productions and mortality factors. GIS has been widely adopted elsewhere as a potent management tool in both the private and public sectors. GIS is now being extensively adopted in marine-associated activities. Here, we have used GeoMania v2.5 GIS software and its 3D Analyst extension module to visualize marine farming areas data that were collected around the Jinhae bay.

Assessment of VARK Learning Styles in Medical School and the Influence of Gender Status, Academic Achievement (의과대학생의 VARK 학습양식과 성별, 학년, 학업성취도간의 차이분석)

  • Learning styles are the methods of gathering, processing, interpreting, organizing the information. VARK learnig inventory is instructional preference classified according to their visual(V), aural(A), read-write(R), and/or kinesthetic(K) sensory modality preferences(SMP). Learner-centered learning is emphasized, but there are few studies on VARK learning styles in Korean medical school. The purposes of this study were to assess the student' SMPs and compare those with gender, status, and academic achievement. The subjects of study were 394 students at C Medical School and Graduate School of Medicine. For the study style test, 16 questions were used in Korean version of VARK test paper© 7.0 developed by Fleming provided on the VARK website. Academic achievement was converted into a standardized score(t score). Frequency analysis, cross analysis, and variance analysis(t-test, ANOVA) were conducted to identify learning style disposition and differences between groups. The uni-modal type was 87(22.1%) and the multimodal was 307(77.9%). Regardless of gender, quasi-modal VARK was the most preferred. There was no significant difference in learning styles by gender. The first grade in medicine was the lowest in uni-modal type(8.8%) and the highest in quasi-modal VARK type(47.8%), while the fourth grade was the highest in uni-modal type(30.7%) and the lowest in quasi-modal VARK type(19.8%) and tri-modal type(19.8%). There was no difference in academic achievement by all learning types(F=1.09, p=0.37). The knowledge about students' learning styles is helpful for instructors to apply more learner-centered teaching strategies in medical education.

Skemp's concept development of underachievers' analytic geometry using the exploratory software, GSP & Excel (탐구형 소프트웨어를 활용한 해석기하에서 학습부진학생들의 개념형성에 관한 연구: 관계적.도구적 이해를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine How the exploratory activities using Excel and GSP which are exploratory software, in learning analytic geometry affected on the underachievers' analytic geometry concept development process. The subjects of 5 students who received the 8th~9th grades from their examination of the last semester, participated in a total of 7 units based on Skemp's intelligent learning model. The results of the study showed that there were two important cases found to nearly achieve the category $R_2$. One was reflective thinking could happen through exploratory software in category $R_1$. The other was the exploratory activities which could have the same effectiveness as the relational understanding in category $I_2$, as Skemp mentioned that there is a room to be achieved in the elementary level when such relational understanding is achieved.

A method of the performance of Sijo in the twenty first century (21세기(世紀) 시조문학(時調文學)의 연행양식(演行樣式))

  • Sijo is the essence of Korean literature and the most ideal poetic form through which we can express our images gracefully in three lines. Hence it deserves special emphasis either in creative writing and appreciating it from elementary school to middle school. In this paper observes how Sijo is taught in the schools and suggests the direction of educating Sijo. There may be three kinds of Sijo performance, namely, recitation, reading, and singing. In this paper. it is claimed that the performance of Sijo in the twenty first century should be recitation. Sijo education may be effective when it focuses on a way of recitation in which, with natural and long breath, a piece of Sijo is recited at length. Nevertheless, it is not practiced as the way of recitation because of following two reasons. Firstly. the analysis on rhythm, which is on the base of its recitation, is extremely difficult. Secondly, the theoretical ways, which is obsolete and lacks vividness, are ineffective in education. By these reasons. 1 studied how to give a recitation following my preceding studies on rhythm and rhythmical reading of Sijo. As a result, this paper suggests a reading method as a solution to the problems. In fact, we Korean can discipline our mind and body through reciting Sijo to the rhythm which is transcendental to Korean and at the same time, Sijo education helps to enhance our pride as koreans in the process of studying Sijo.
