  • The purpose of this study was to testify the relationship of parental psychological control perceived by young adults in twenties and their social anxiety, and the mediating effects of internalized shame and ambivalence over emotional expressiveness in the model. The online questionnaires were administered to 350 young adults in twenties to assess the four major variables(parental psychological control, internalized shame, ambivalence over emotional expressiveness and social anxiety). In correlation analysis, parental psychological control, social anxiety, internalized shame and ambivalence over emotional expressiveness were positively correlated. Bootstrapping method was used to test the mediating effects, and this study here is statistically significant revealing the path of parental psychological control to social anxiety by mediator such as internalized shame and ambivalence over emotional expressiveness. Finally, parental psychological control-social anxiety partial mediator model was supported. As a result of the study, the higher the level of parental psychological control, the higher the level of internalized shame and ambivalence over emotional expressiveness, and subsequently the higher the level of social anxiety in twenties. The implication and limitation of this study, and future tasks were discussed.

  • Smart devices are playing an increasing important role in today's knowledge society. On the other hand, its adverse effects are creating social problems as well. Thus, users have diverse attitude toward smart devices. In this regard, this study is aimed at examining the impact of attitudinal ambivalence and positive mind for the smart technology on consumer satisfaction. In order to achieve the research objective, we formulated research hypotheses. Then we conducted a questionnaire survey using college students to test hypotheses, and analyzed collected data using regression analysis. The results of our analysis indicated two key findings. First, it was found that attitudinal ambivalence had a negative effect on consumer satisfaction. Second, positive mind was found to have a positive effect on consumer satisfaction. Our findings are expected to make an academic contribution by enhancing our understanding of what leads to consumer satisfaction with smart devices.

  • The aim of this research was to verify the mediating effects of ambivalence over emotional expressiveness and distress tolerance on the relationship between harm avoidance and depression. A total of 403 university students completed TCI-RS(Temperament and Character Inventory-Revised Short version), AEQ-K(Ambivalence over Emotional Expressiveness Questionnaire-Korean), DTS (Distress Tolerance Scale) and CES-D(The Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale). The results revealed that harm avoidance and ambivalence over emotional expressiveness were positively related with depression, and negatively related with distress tolerance. In addition, the relationship of harm avoidance and depression was successively mediated by ambivalence over emotional expressiveness and distress tolerance. That is, the motivation of emotional expression conflict may have an effect on depression and the distress tolerance would play an important role in therapeutic intervention of depression.

  • Objective: In this study, we examined the psychometric properties of the Korean Intergenerational Psychological Ambivalence Scale (KIPAS) for young adult children. Method: Data came from 1,140 Korean young adults aged 19-34, who were never married and had at least one living parent. We translated the individual-subjective dimension of Zygowicz's (2006) Intergenerational Ambivalence Scale from English to Korean. The individual-subjective dimension had eight items that directly measured intergenerational psychological ambivalence (D-KIPAS) and 10 items that indirectly measured intergenerational psychological ambivalence (I-KIPAS). Results: The D-KIPAS and I-KIPAS items showed good internal consistency both for the mother and the father. Confirmatory factor analysis showed that D-KIPAS items loaded on one factor after controlling for method effects, which allowed error variances among the four non-reversed items to covary. Both the positive and negative items of I-KIPAS had good reliability and loaded on the same factor. The mean score of D-KIPAS and the calculated score of I-KIPAS were significantly but moderately correlated, which indicates that the D-KIPAS and I-KIPAS assess correlated but distinct aspects of intergenerational ambivalence. Correlations among D-KIPAS, I-KIPAS, and the proxy variables of intergenerational solidarity and conflict supported the discriminant validity of the KIPAS. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that both D-KIPAS and I-KIPAS are reliable and valid tools to measure intergenerational psychological ambivalence among Korean young adults.
