  • Based on recent studies, the side resistance of rock socketed drilled shafts was affected by unconfined compressive strength of rock, socket roughness, rock types and joints, and initial normal stress. Especially, the socket roughness was affected by rock types and joints, drilling methods, and diameters of pile. In this study, a new roughness measurement system (BKS-LRPS, Backyoung-KyungSung Laser Roughness Profiling System) usable in water was developed. Based on the laboratory model tests, an EMD (Effective Measurement Distances) according to various turbidity was proposed as $EMD=1149.2{\times}T_{b}^{-0.64}$.

  • We have compared a special character(pressure of explosion, gas volume, energy of explosion, temperature of explosion, strength) of different three emulsion explosives which is different velocity by Nitrodyn program that is calculated explosion reaction. We have analyzed the character of the vibration from a vibration data which is a result from test blasting in different velocity of detonation for three emulsion explosives of the same size(17mm) in the same rock. As a result, the vibration is decreased when the velocity of detonation is decreased within 40m from origin of explosion but it is familiar character over 40m, so there isn't much affect the velocity of detonation in decreased vibration over 40m.

  • A drill & blasting method using explosives is the most efficient way to break the rock in the urban projects. However, the blasting method cause vibration, noise and fly-rock as blast pollutions so that blasting wroks are restricted by adjacent structures such as apartment and residence houses. To conduct blasting works at near structures, the numbers of blast-holes a blast and the size of the blast are limited by kinds of detonators and initiation methods. So, the production rate is reduced and the construction period should be increased. Therefore, in this case the deck-charge blasting methods using available detonators in domestic market were designed and evaluated in order to confirm the application possibilities in specific urban sites.

  • In this study, a fundamental investigation was made on how to use LiDAR technology to determine the degree of weathering and alteration of rock mass. The purpose of the study was to identify the affecting parameters to LiDAR intensity and to quantitatively assess the relations among them through laboratory-scale experiment. A few potential affecting parameters were selected including scanning distance, incidence angle, surface roughness, surface color, mineral composition, and water saturation. In the experiment, FARO LiDAR unit was used for twelve different types of specimen. It was observed that the intensity was affected by, in the order of importance, surface color, incidence angle, scanning distance, property of rock, water condition, and surface roughness.

  • Various TBM performance prediction models have been developed and most of them were considered penetration rate only. Despite the fact that some models have suggested equations and charts for estimating the utilization factor, but there are a few studies to estimate the TBM utilization factor. Utilization factor is affected by the type of TBM machine, operation, maintenance of machine, geological conditions, contractor experience and other factors. In this study, more than 100 case studies are analyzed to determine the relationship between the utilization factor and RMR, geological conditions, TBM types, tunnel length, and TBM diameter. Simple and multiple linear regression analysis are performed to develop predictive models for the utilization factor. The predictive model with explanatory variables of geological conditions, TBM types, tunnel length, and TBM diameter does not give a good correlation. The predictive models with explanatory variable of RMR give higher values of the coefficient of determination.

  • It can be observed that steep slopes ($65^{\circ}$ to $80^{\circ}$) consist of rock masses were kept stable for a long time. In rock-mass slopes with similar ground condition, steeper slopes than 1 : 0.5 ($63^{\circ}$) may be applied if the discontinuities of rock-mass slope are distributed in a direction favorable to the stability of the slope. In making a decision the angle of the slope, if the preliminary rock mass conditions applicable to steep slope are quantitatively setup, they may be used as guidance in design practice. In this study, the above rock mass was defined as a good continuum rock mass and the quantitative setup criterion range was proposed using RMR, SMR and GSI classifications for the purpose of providing engineering standard for good continuum rock mass conditions. The methods of study are as follows. The stable slope at steep slopes ($65^{\circ}$ to $80^{\circ}$) for each rock type was selected as the study area, and RMR, SMR and GSI were classified to reflect the face mapping results. The results were reviewed by applying the calculated shear strength to the stable analysis of the current state of rock mass slope using the Hoek-Brown failure criterion. It is intended to verify the validity of the preliminary criterion as a rock mass condition that remains stable on a steep slope. Based on the analysis and review by the above research method, it was analyzed that a good continuum rock mass slope can be set to Basic RMR ${\geq}50$ (45 in sedimentary rock), GSI and SMR ${\geq}45$. The safety factor of the LEM is between Fs = 14.08 and 67.50 (average 32.9), and the displacement of the FEM is 0.13 to 0.64 mm (average 0.27 mm). This can be seen as a result of quantitative representation and verification of the stability of a good continuum rock mass slope that has been maintained stable for a long period of time with steep slopes ($65^{\circ}$ to $80^{\circ}$). The setup guideline for a good continuum rock mass slope will be able to establish a more detailed setup standard when the data are accumulated, and it is also a further study project. If stable even on steep slopes of 1 : 0.1 to 0.3, the upper limit of steep slopes is 1 : 0.3 with reference to the overseas design standards and report, thus giving the benefit of ensuring economic and eco-friendlyness. Also, the development of excavation technology and plantation technology and various eco-friendly slope design techniques will help overcome psychological anxiety and rapid weathering and relaxation due to steep slope construction.

  • Grouting materials in rock is grouted as vein type along the fault surface by the other way for soil and allow a change of characteristics in rock faults as a result of that. Therefore the deformation characteristics of rock faults after grouting differ as a direction and characteristic of grouted fault and stress condition of field rock. Thereby it must be analyzed the effect for deformation of rock according to characteristics of rock faults and characteristics of grouting materials to accurately evaluate the reinforced effect by grouting. But grouting method used in field until present depends on experience of workers, and inspection for those effects are evaluated by measurement of elastic wave velocity, permeability tests and etc. in field. In this study, it was investigated that the effects for shear characteristics of maximum shear strength, residual shear strength and etc. by comparison and analysis of test results which were worked by direct shear tests of rock faults with changing a type of grouting materials and the grouting depth(t) for average width(a) of fault surface roughness when OPC(Ordinary Portland Cement) and Micro cement was grouted in fault surface of field rock to evaluate characteristicsof the shear deformation for rock fault surface of dam by grouting.
