Self-driving vehicles are increasing as new alternatives to solving problems such as human safety, environment and aging. And such technology development has a great ripple effect on other industries. However, various problems are occurring. The number of casualties caused by self-driving is increasing. Although the collision of fixed obstacles is somewhat decreasing, on the contrary, the technology by active obstacles is still insignificant. Therefore, in this study, in order to solve the core problem of self-driving vehicles, we propose a method of extracting active obstacles on the road. First, a center scene is extracted from a continuous image. In addition, it was proposed to extract activity obstacles using activity size and activity repeatability information from objects included in the center scene. The center scene is calculated using region segmentation and merging. Based on these results, the size of the frequency for each pixel in the region was calculated and the size of the activity of the obstacle was calculated using information that frequently appears in activity. Compared to the results extracted directly by humans, the extraction accuracy was somewhat lower, but satisfactory results were obtained. Therefore, it is believed that the proposed method will contribute to solving the problems of self-driving and reducing human accidents.

The purpose of this study was to develop practical problem focused teaching learning process plan for housing for the later life in order to apply it to the older stage of family planning section of Technology Home Economics in a highschool. Practical problem focused method was used for the teaching learning process plans of 3-session lessons according to the ADDIE model. The global practical problem was "What should I do to plan a safe and comfortable housing for the later life?" In the development stage, 53 teaching learning materials (44 students activity materials, 2 students' and 5 teacher' reading texts, and 2 moving pictures) were developed for 3-session lessons. The planes applied to the 5 classes, 150 students, in the freshmen of B highschool during April 20th-24th, 2009. The 5 point likert questionnaire were used to evaluate the 3-session lessons about 4 contents related aspects as well as the methods and effects of the lessons besides 2 open ended questions. The overall evaluation was very positive in all 6 aspects of the lessons. Some students wanted to learn more about universal design and aging related jobs. Those results showed that the practical problem focused teaching learning process plan for housing for the later life which this study developed would be appropriate to teach the older stage of family planning section related to housing and could be adjusted to the condition of each school and regions.

Recently, the development of underground structures is to be inevitably necessary due to the increase in population and traffic volume that has caused to the limit of urban land use and the heavy traffic jams. Therefore, underground structures such as subway, underground shopping centers, lifeline facilities and so on, have been increasingly constructed, On the other hand, several social problems have occurred during construction, i.e., ground subsidence, noise, and vibration. Therefore, safer and more beneficial methods for underground construction are on the demand. In this research, N.T.R.(New Tubular Roof) method has been modified and utilized for solving those problems and overcoming the difficulties connected with the bored tunnel construction of large underground openings in unfavorable ground, often under the water table, and with overburdens that are too shallow to solve problems of stability using traditional methods. The N.T.R. method has been modified to suit for Korean geotechnical conditions, and was made up for the weak points-the water leakage from walls and tops, the maintenance and the lack of stability-of the conventional methods. This paper dealt with the features and the applicability of N.T.R. Method based on the results from numerical analysis and data from in-situ monitoring system.

The prosperity of IT technologies and the removal of restrictions regarding Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), also known as drones, have driven growth in their popularity. However, without a proper solution to the problem of accident avoidance for UAVs, this popularity increases the potential for collisions between UAVs and between UAV and terrain features. These collisions can occur because UAVs to date have flown using radio control or image recognition based autonomous navigation. Therefore, we propose efficient UAV routing schemes to tackle the collision problem using vehicular communication systems. Performance evaluation by computer simulation shows that the proposed methods effectively reduce the collision probability and improve the routing efficiency of the UAV. Furthermore, the proposed algorithms are compatible and can be directly applied with small overhead to the commercial vehicular communication system implementation.
Dentistry had been considered to be a relatively safe zone from the risk of medical accidents for there are less number of emergency cases. However, in these days, the number of medical dispute is increasing that the dentists would not be able to overlook it as if it is none of their matters. Hence, researches on various medical accidents and analyses on related matters to seek proper management have been carried out recently, but the datas are not enough yet. This study analysed the actual conditions of medical accidents as well as disputes and the general awareness of dental practitioners in local clinics with the purpose of understanding the general situation and to suggest counterplan. The study was conducted by analysing 1,882 questionnaires collected from total of 3,684 dentists belonging to Seoul Dental Association and where Doctors and Hospitals Medical Malpractice Insurance for dentists is administered. The results were as follows: 1. 98.47% of the respondents doubted the risk of medical accident and dispute. 2. 27.42% of the respondents experienced medical dispute, and there was no significant difference between the rate of medical disputes and the resident training. 3. Among the cases of medical accidents, those related to the periodontal/operative treatment showed the highest rate of 20.50%, and that related to implant treatment was 6.17%. 4. 43.02% of the respondents explained about the treatment procedure before the treatment while 25.90% started the treatment without consent of the patients. 5. Medical dispute resulted from not having any explanation or consent of the patients were of 16.55%. 10.26% had difficulties in solving the problem for missing the medical records. 6. 49.73% responded to be capable of administering first aid treatment. Among them, 23.60% were equipped with accurate knowledge regarding the emergency care. 7. During medical dispute, 88.09% sought counsel from other dentists, and Local district dental association was found to be the most frequently asked group. 8. In cases of medical dispute, 5.26% of the respondents were asked to submit relevant data from customer protection organization, and among them, 75.61% acceded the demand sincerely. 9. After the settlement of the dispute, 83.63% recovered relatively stable state of mind. 10. 99.46% of the respondents felt the necessity of medical dispute management organization, and 78.58% responded that it was urgent. 11. 66.70% of the respondents joined Doctors and Hospitals Medical Malpractice Insurance, although they had not experienced medical dispute. However, 73.36% of the respondent were not aware of it, and 93.36% of the members were not aware of the procedure of the dispute settlement. 12. 79.0% of the respondents who joined the Doctors and Hospitals Medical Malpractice Insurance still felt confused when medical dispute occured, but relatively safer than before. 13. When medical dispute was settled through Doctors and Hospitals Medical Malpractice Insurance, 71.92% of the dentists were contented more than moderately, however, 35.16% of the patients were contented. 14. For complement of Doctors and Hospitals Medical Malpractice Insurance, 53.22% of the respondents felt that insurance company, dentist, and patient should all participate in bringing mutual agreement for quick settlement of the dispute. In addition, 29.08% of the respondents wanted insurance company to prevent patients from disturbing their practices. From the above results, improvement of the general awareness on increasing rate of medical disputes, and education as well as complementary measures for settlement of the disputes are required.
With an increase in urban crimes in various forms, this study is intended to analyze the effectiveness of the service design that presented a new model resolving crime risks through differentiated thinking paradigm and problem approaches. The empirical case addressed in this study is 'the project to create resident-driven safe community in Duryu-dong, Dalseo-gu, Deagu though service design'. This project is evaluated as having prepared a prevention-oriented local safety system through a preemptive and resident-centered process. The project was promoted as a 'natural monitoring capacity building program' for residents to prevent local crimes, a 'social role expansion program' for local safety, and 'crime prevention environment design', which provides comprehensive solutions for residents' safety. Here, designers act as exerts in designing a task-based platform that can be driven by residents rather than a visual environment improver, and reorganizing the local ecosystem by expanding the opportunities for residents to interact. This case identifies the role of service design as binding the solidarity of local residents beyond the improvement of the crime environment and giving them the potential capacity to maintain a safe living space in relation to a safety issues of community.
Raised or plain block is widely used for the pedestrian's safe passage. The insincere construction, insufficient maintenance and obstacle overlaid on the pavement cause pedestrian's accidents. This paper proposes a method to detect brick path by analyzing the shape pattern and texture feature of brick located in visible distance for a safe passage. A brick appears to a regular type because of its specific shape which repeats with its sized gap and its type varies according to the surrounding environment or use. This paper shows a method which extracts the shape pattern by analyzing single surface polygon and its frequency appearing in road area. The shape pattern is used to detect similar shape regions. Some regions are not detected because extraneous substances or chopped bricks distort the original shape. This problem can be solved by analyzing the texture feature vector. The analyzed vector of the previously detected regions yields the Gaussian distribution. This value in each undetected region is computed and checked whether it's satisfied with Gaussian distribution or not. The satisfied region is detected as the brick path. The experiment was performed with the various type's bricks to recognize so that the results showed as accurate as 95.9% in average.
Increasing traffic volumes and excessively high speeds on national highways through small towns often increases the frequency of accidents. Extensive paved areas, narrow sidewalks, median barriers and little greenery have resulted in a dangerous and destructive living environment for residents. The reason for this problem is that throughways were expanded without considering the harmony between the throughways and the small towns. Construction of bypasses and reclassification of highway functions would solve the problem by reducing vehicle speeds in small towns, but this method is too costly and time consuming. Therefore, this study analyzes national highways through small towns as a case studies using positive guidance in order to improve safety and develop alternatives. As a result of the case study, the biggest problem was observed to be the excessively high vehicle speeds, This study also identified places were information should be given or posted but is currently absent. Therefore, this study concludes that notional highways through small towns need installation of speed reduction facilities and additional information provision to drivers.

The aim of this study is achieving customer satisfaction by finding cost-effective installation of storage tanks in the gas filling stations. Pros and cons were measured by comparison between above and underground tanks using Pugh methods. In particular, severe problems regarding gas safety are expected to be resolved by reducing the frequency of gas accidents occurred in mass storage facilities. To this end, we have used Pugh's method to compare the advantages and disadvantages of the existing storage tanks-Ground above type and underground type. After the analyses, it is shown that underground containment storage tank can provide the highest degree of safety and Real estate among Ground above type, Underground buried type and underground containment type storage tanks.

The majority of maritime accidents happened by human factor. For that reason, navigation experts want to an intelligent support system for navigation safety, without officer involvement. The expert system which is one of artificial intelligence skills for navigation support is an important tool that a machine can substitute for an expert through the design of a knowledge base and inference engine using the experience or knowledge of an expert. Further, in the real world, a complex situation requires synthetic estimation with the input of experts in various fields for the correct estimation of the situation, not any one expert. In particular, synthetic estimation is more important for navigation situations than in other cases, because of diverse potential threats. This paper presents the method of knowledge fusion pertaining to navigation safety knowledge from various expert systems, using a blackboard system. Then we will show the validity of the method via a design and implementation of test system effort.
