  • This study is aimed to examine the emotional experiences of parents with children who have been sexually abused by others. Five mothers whose child was sexually abused participated in this study. They were first recruited through recommendations made by social welfare agencies that provided services to these children. We conducted two or more in-depth interviews for each mother to collect the data. The mothers' emotional experiences were analyzed using phenomenology. Mothers expressed that they felt like the whole world came crashing down around them, felt "totally lost", and felt deep pain together with their children, such that "my family and I were so devastated". Nevertheless, they gradually came to believe that they could overcome this tragedy by continuously making efforts to protect their children from the dangers outside. Despite their efforts, however, they kept the feeling of "hopelessness, neglect, and their children's wounds", deep inside them. The results indicate that it is necessary to have an intervention for mothers whose child has been sexually abused from a companions' perspective within 10 days after the sexual abuse incident.

For these purposes, this study employed a latent growth model analysis of the factors such as depression, aggressive behavior, communality and interpersonal relationship of development of poor children and evaluation, satisfaction, outsiders'attention and participation of facilitative factors. The result shows that they displayed significantly positive development in depression, aggressive behavior, and interpersonal relationship. It appears that the evaluation on music achievement had a positive impact on the rate of change in communality, while the evaluation on attitude had an impact in the initial value of depression, aggressive behavior, and communality, also the sense of satisfaction had a positive impact on the initial value of communality and interpersonal relationship in conditional models. And parents' attention and participation had a negative impact on the initial value of aggressive behavior, while the attention and participation of the community showed a positive impact on the initial value of depression and aggressive behavior. Based on these results, this study attempted to broaden the understanding of the development of poor children taking part in orchestra-based educational activities and provide a practical basis for social workers' direct invention, and look for new ways by shedding light on the merits of the cultural/art education of poor children that engage in the community-based orchestra educational activities.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the temperament characteristics associated with stuttering subtypes (persistent and recovered) over time and the relationship between those characteristics and stuttering severity. This four-year longitudinal study covered 41 preschool children who stutter (CWS) and 30 preschool children who do not stutter (the CWNS group). At the final visit, 27 CWS were classified as the Recovered group and 14 CWS were classified as the Persistent group. Using the Children's Behavior Questionnaire-Short Form, each participant's temperament characteristics were measured twice: at one year and two years after the initial visit. The three subscale scores (Extraversion, Negative Affectivity, and Effortful Control) and the 15 component scores were analyzed, and they were used for between-group and between-visit comparisons. The Persistent group showed a significantly higher Negative Affectivity subscale score at every visit than the Recovered and CWNS groups. Within this subscale, significant group differences were found in the 'Fear' and 'Anger/Frustration' components, demonstrating that the Persistent group scored higher than the Recovered and CWNS groups. There was no significant correlation between the subscale and component scores and the stuttering severity scores within the Persistent group at any visit. These results support the proposition that these two stuttering subtypes have different temperament characteristics; they also imply that temperament might be influenced by stuttering experience over time.

  • This study aims to explore how to improve students' rights based on their age and development stages. To this end, we analyzed a survey that had been carried out with 1,065 students from elementary, middle and high schools in 2 most populated counties in Korea, focusing on the differences in their perception with regard to the right to survive, develop, be protected and participate. The result of the analysis showed that high school students' sense of rights was at the lowest in general, while being particularly low in their sense of participation rights. However, when it comes to the development rights and protection rights, the level of recognition of middle school students were as low as those of high school students. Based on the results, we suggested that a proactive effort to guarantee adolescents' participation rights is required, and that education of human rights should be emphasized not only for children but also for their supporters. In the follow-up study, it is required to investigate the differences between development stages and regions by including participants with diverse ages and residential areas.
