  • This study deals with the psycho-social development of children raised by disabled parents. In particular, we are willing to examine the influence of parental factors such as social engagement and future forecast on the change of children's psycho-social development. Using the three waves of Korean Welfare Panel Study data, these predictors were examined through the Latent Growth Curve Modeling. The result shows that parent's disability has a negative influence on their children's psycho-social development. However, similar to the findings of the previous studies, the degree of this influence tends to be decreased as children grow up. Lastly, two parental factors have a direct influence on the psychological development of children. Furthermore, parent's social engagement has an indirect influence on the change of sociality of children through the psychological change of them. This result means that we should encourage disabled parents to participate actively in social activities and think positively about their future.

  • This study takes the position that present after-school classes affect the development of children's sociality and self-esteem, and aims at comparing, analyzing and grasping the differences in sociality and self-esteem of the children who attend after-school classes and those of the children who don't. First, when the differences of sociality were analyzed between the children going to after-school classes and those who weren't, it was revealed that those who attended after-school classes had rather lower level of sociality than those who didn't, but there were no statistically meaningful differences. Second, when the differences of self-esteem in regard to whether children took after-school classes or not were examined, those who were taking after-school classes were analyzed to have lower self-esteem than those who weren't. The study results showed that the children who went to after-school classes had lower sociality and self-esteem compared to those who didn't. Taking this fact into consideration, different ways should be found to improve their sociality and self-esteem. In addition, programs need to be developed and introduced so that after-school classes can not only fulfill their original purposes of protecting and guiding children, but also continuously elevate and maintain children's sociality and self-esteem.

Results : There is a significant difference in BOT-2(Z=-2.023, p=.043) and Scale for basic socialized function(Z=-2.023, p=.043) scores comparing pre-intervention with post-intervention. Conclusions : The results of this study showed that the group sensory integration intervention is effective in improving the praxis and socialization for school-aged children. However, it is difficult to generalize the conclusion because the number of subjects was limited and the environmental confounding factors had not been considered. Therefore, in the future research, it should supplement the aspect these limitations before applying the sensory integration intervention in order to suggest standard criteria for norm data.
