  • Social problems, such as economic instability, aging population, heightened competition, and changes in personal values, might become more serious in the near future. Affective computing has received much attention in the scholarly community as a possible solution to potential social problems. Accordingly, we examined domestic and global knowledge structure, major keywords, current research status, international research collaboration, and network for each major keyword, focusing on keywords related to affective computing. We searched for articles on a specialized academic database (Scopus) using major keywords and carried out bibliometric and network analyses. We found that China and the United States (U.S.) have been active in producing knowledge on affective computing, whereas South Korea lags well behind at around 10%. Major keywords surrounding affective computing include computing, processing, affective analysis, research, user modeling categorizing recognitions, and psychological analysis. In terms of international research collaboration structure, China and the U.S. form the largest cluster, whereas other countries like the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, and Canada have been strong collaborators as well. Contrastingly, South Korea's research has not been diverse and has not been very successful in producing research outcomes. For the advancement of affective computing research in South Korea, the present study suggests strengthening international collaboration with major countries, including the U.S. and China and diversifying its research partners.

  • In this study, a TPACK-based STEAM program was developed and applied under the theme of excretory organs in the 'Structure and Function of Our Body' of the elementary science curriculum. The program was produced and conducted through curriculum analysis and learning goal detailing, learning environment analysis, teaching·learning method and technology selection, TPACK elements arrangement and teaching·learning material development, application and effectiveness verification. Teacher's TPACK considered in STEAM program design process is content knowledge (appearance and work of excretory organs), pedagogical knowledge (STEAM, problem-based learning, research learning, discussion learning, cooperative learning, scientific writing) and technology knowledge (3D printer and smart device application technology). The program consisted of a total of 8 hours of project learning activities and was applied to 29 students in the fifth grade as an experimental group. A program of the same theme developed mainly from textbooks was applied to 27 students in the fifth grade of a comparison group. As a result of the application of the program, the experimental group showed significant improvement in creative problem-solving ability and scientific attitude compared to the comparison group, and the class satisfaction with the STEAM program was also high. However, there was no significant difference in academic achievement ability.

  • This study empirically analyzes casual relationships among psychological and financial factors influencing the subscription of individual pension and identifies mediation effect by the structural equation model. The analysis based on survey data (N=928) from common people living in the seven major cities in Korea shows that potential longevity, coping efficacy to the financial risks from longevity, subjective knowledge on longevity (cognitive factor), trust in insurers (social factor), and financial literacy(financial factor) are key players exercising direct influence over the subscription of individual pension. It also has been shown that affect on longevity, potential longevity, trust in government, and coping efficacy influence the emotions on longevity, fear and worry, and emotions on longevity are not significant in explaining the subscription of individual pension. Trust in insurers and financial knowledge of prospects have also been reaffirmed to be crucial factors in the activation of individual pension subscription.

  • Recently more emphasis thinking is domain-specific by cognitive psychologists, because problem solving needs domain-specific knowledge. Improving students' geographical thinking should ensure that geographic skills are used when developing teaching-leaming objectives. Knowledge is undoubtedly important, but for the purpose of the teaching of geography thinking, skills are critical. The purpose of this paper is to make specification of geographic skills as a frame of reference for instructional objectives. Based on cognitive psychology, this paper examined the interdependence relationship between thinking and knowledge. Next, we attempt to conceptualize high order geographical thinking and relatively lower order geographic skills and to explore specification of geographic skills in complex thinking strategical perspectives.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore students' argumentation in perspectives of epistemology and psychology and to find out how teacher can promote students' abilities of developing argumentation. The 60 hours of lessons from the interaction between one science teacher (Mr. Physics, who had 35 years of teaching experience) and his 26 students were observed, transcribed, and analyzed using two different analyzing tools; one is from the perspective of epistemology and the other from the perspective of psychology, which can portray how argumentation is constructed. Mr. Physics created the environment where students could promote the quality of scientific argumentation through explicit teaching strategy, Claim-Evidence Approach. The low level of argumentation was portrayed through examples from students' prior knowledge or experience in the form of an Appeal to the instance operation and the Elaboration reasoning skill. Students' own claims were developed through application of knowledge in a different context in the form of an Induction operation and Generativity reasoning skill. Higher level of argumentation was portrayed through Consistency operation with other knowledge or experience and Explanation reasoning skills based on students' ideas with more active teacher's inputs. The teacher in this study played a role as a helper for students to enact identities as competent "sense makers," as an elaborator rather than evaluator to extend students' ideas, and as a mentor to foster and monitor the students' development of ideas of a higher quality. It is critical for teachers to understand the nature of argumentation, which in turn is connected to their explicit teaching strategy with the aim of providing opportunities where students can understand the science enterprise.

  • This study is to set up a hypothesis and a research model based on how much the relational benefits can affect customer satisfaction and long-term relationship with the theoretical and practical results of established precedent researches, to analyze the structural equation model on casual dining restaurant diners, to evaluate the research model and subsequently to provide marketing implications. First of all, social and psychological factors prove to be influential among relational benefits felt by diners-out. Secondly, customer satisfaction has influence on long-term commitment for a restaurant. In other words, the higher customer satisfaction level for a restaurant is, the stronger willingness a customer has to recommend or revisit the restaurant, as several precedent studies support. As demonstrated in indirect advantages, these social and psychological benefits felt by diners-out have mighty effects on long-term relationship orientation, and satisfaction levels prove to be an important medium which can make these influences. As a result, restaurant employees' attitude toward customers is the most important factor rather than economic benefits such as reduced price, free gifts and coupons are, since customers put social and psychological benefits forward like intimate terms with restaurant workers, a sense of stability, and a relief from uneasiness. Therefore, constant service education should be done from the start to cope with customers' demands fast and flexibly and increase customer satisfaction.

  • The scientific verification of the physiological and psychological effects that result from interaction with green plants would not only provide objective knowledge on the psychological effect of green but would also establish useful grounds for the creation of green spaces that consider human emotions. The present study measured the cerebral activity(cerebral blood flow) and the autonomic nervous system activity (blood pressure, pulse rate, amylase) of fifteen Korean male subjects as they inhaled the natural scent diffused by pine needles. Impression and mood state evaluations of the reactions to the pine scent were carried out using the SD method and POMS. Cerebral activity was observed to be significantly activated in the feeling, judgment, and motor areas of the frontal lobe, as well as the memory area in the temporal lobe. Verbal evaluations by the SD method and POMS indicated a pine scent left natural but stimulated and active impressions, provided vigor, and also reduced confusion. The autonomic nervous system activities, however, showed no significant differences. These findings verified scientifically that a pine scent vitalizes humans both physiologically and psychologically. These results could be useful as fundamental data for the design of green spaces that consider human emotional aspects.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the anxiety arising from the budgetary and mental problems of graduate school students. Three graduate students majoring in Earth science examined conflict situations by using a narrative inquiry technique. First, participants become psychologically unstable due to a lack of knowledge in the field of Earth science, lack of mentors, lack of information related to academic schedules, late start compared to others, financial difficulties, and discrimination in the scholarship system. Second, participants felt hope from the perception that their lives are valuable, that they can change students for the better, and that they are developing themselves. Third, with their hope, the study participants bore the previously mentioned inferior situation mentioned above. They are, however, torn between becoming secondary school teachers and attempting to reroute their career path due to certain circumstances. Based on the results of the examination, the following conclusions were drawn. First, there should be improvements from graduate school management based on collecting and scrutinizing the demands of students in the to fulfill their needs. Second, providing psychological counseling for students who have problems overcoming their anxieties. This study expects graduate schools to not only emphasize training of incumbent teachers, but also suggest ways that can satisfy students to make better learning environment for all its members.
