  • Recently, problems regarding marital adjustment of cancer patients are recognized as serious matter of concern for it had been reported that these issues have severe negative effects on relationship stability within marriage. It is noteworthy how marital adjustment is found to be critical for the cancer patient's mental stability, healing process and chances of survival as reported in the research. Thus, the ultimate goal of this research is to contribute to improvement of the stable relationship and also to formulate the social service related strategy for marriage adjustment for married cancer patient married couples in Korea. Actor and Partner Interdependence Model was formed in order to observe how the communication of the married couple affects marital adjustment and how this has an actor effect as well as partner effect. In order to authenticate this research model, dyadic data which sample the cancer patient and the spouse as a pair. Survey was conducted as the cancer patients who had been diagnosed with cancer and their respective spouses. The survey was taken from 160 married couples which totals to 320 people all together. Results indicated the cancer patient and the spouse have a significant relationship in marital adjustment. Through this, it had been concluded that marital adjustment is not separated but co-dependent with dynamic relationship. And the mutual constructive communication had proven to have a significant positive effect on one's marital adjustment. In demand-withdrawal communication, its negative effect on the self effect was found to be significant in both the patient and the spouse to both of their marital adjustment. Mutual avoidance communication had shown to only cause significant negative effect on self effect to the patient. In verifying the partner effect, significant negative effect was caused by patient's demand-withdrawal communication in partner effect on the spouse's marital adjustment. The results of this study are discussed in term of their implications for clinical interventions for the betterment of marital adjustment among cancer patients and their spouses. The suggestions for future research are discussed also.

  • This study is about the development and effectiveness of the 'Empowerment Program' for the persons with disabilities caused by industrial accidents. The program was developed on the basis of the analysis of focus group interviews for the rehabilitation counselors who work with the persons with disabilities caused by industrial accidents. Also, it was based on Miley et al's empowerment model and the group social work practice. The goal of the program was to strengthen the level of empowerment and decrease emotional frustration for the persons with disabilities caused by industrial accidents. The program consisted of two different types: one for the hospitalized person and the other for the discharged person. The program practiced once a week for 6 weeks and 8 weeks by the choice of the rehabilitation counselors. In order to verify the effectiveness of the program, the participants included 11 persons for the experimental group and 10 persons for the control group. The empowerment scores of the two groups were estimated at the point of pre-test and post-test and were analysed through the Wilcoxon signed rank test and Mann-Whitney U test. As the results of the analyses showed, there were significant differences in the increases in the areas of total empowerment and self-image as a sub-scale between the two groups. In conclusion, the effectiveness of the program was confirmed. Also, it has been verified that the program can be an important social work practice tool for strengthening the empowerment level of the persons with disabilities caused by industrial accidents.

  • Prior research on attribution has paid much attention to cognitive processes through which people infer causes. However, surprising omission from this research stream is the role of unconscious priming of different causes in task satisfaction and re-performance intention. This research is conducted to examine how attributing to different causes (chance vs. effort) via priming procedure affects task satisfaction and re-performance intention. To do this, participants were assigned to either chance-priming or effort-priming attribution condition and asked to answer O/X quiz (Exp 1) or multiple choice questions (Exp 2). Then, we provided 'Good' or 'Bad' feedback to participants randomly regardless of their actual task results. Finally, we measured their task satisfaction and re-performance intention. Results indicate that task satisfaction is affected by the valence of feedback they received but re-performance intention is influenced by interaction between attribution priming and the valence of feedback. Specifically, when receiving 'Good' feedback, participants in effort-priming condition have higher re-performance intention than those in chance-priming condition, whereas when receiving 'Bad' feedback, participants in effort-priming condition have lower re-performance intention than those in chance-priming condition. Implications of the findings are discussed in relation to the research for induction and decision making as well as psychology of addiction.

  • The primary objectives of this research is to identify (1) demographic characteristics and job needs of women with disabilities in Korea and (2) factors that predicts the degrees of their job needs. This study uses the data based on interviews with 805 disabled women selected randomly from the registered disabled women in Seoul, Kuyngki-Do, Pusan, and Kuyngsangnam-Do. In the aspect of disabilities, this study showed that more than half of disabled women in our sample have very severe disabilities (1st degree and 2nd degree of disabilities) and needs others' help in their daily lives. In the demographic aspect, this study found that disabled women's education level is very low and their monthly income is also very low. This study also found that in spite of their disabilities and functional limitations, more than 3/4 of disabled women have needs about jobs. Finally, using logistic regression analysis, this study found that disabled women's type of disabilities, dependencies in daily life, age, job experiences, job training experiences, willingness for independence, and parental attitude about disabled women's future are statistically significant in predicting the degree of their job needs. This study will contribute to developing knowledge about disabled women's characteristics and provide practical implications for intervention strategies and assistance programs related to promoting their welfare.

  • It is important to get clinical ultrasonic images of good quality for accurate diagnosis. In this study, it observed the change of ultrasonic images against setting frequency, dynamic range(DR) and type of probes on ultrasonic scanner. In the experiment it evaluated image of LCS (Low Contrast Sensitivity) targets(-15, -6, -3, +3, +6, +15 dB) of a standard ultrasonic test phantoms(539,551, ATS, USA) similar to solid and cystic lesions. Its imaged from convex (C3-7IM) and linear probe (L5-12IM) on SA-9900 (Medison Ltd, Korea) scanner. The images obtained altering the setting parameters which are frequency(gen, pen, res, harmonic) mode and DR($40{\sim}100\;dB$). The quality of images evaluated compare with the nominal LCS value of target and measured LCS value. The results show that there was no significant changing of quality images altering DR 40, 60, 80, 100 dB against frequency in Convex probe but the image being the highest in LCS target at DR 60 dB, harmonic of frequency mode in the -15 dB target close to cystic lesion. In Linear probe, DR 40 dB, harmonic mode at -15 dB LCS target close to nominal value. It discussed necessity of evaluation about ROC(Receiver Operating Characteristic) from the psychological viewpoint and limit of evaluation from quantified images.

  • Modern times is called the age of image. It means that our society's importance is transferring from the commodity-centered industrial society to intangible culture-oriented society Therefore, it is becoming very important that what kind of image, concept and psychological factor act upon the space, things, incident and time (event) which is constituted around our environment. As regards this standpoint, from the early period, that advanced countries have been taking advantage of the national symbol image very positive way and function for domestic things and place and event and so on which make a standout for the nation's positive image and taken an effort for promoting a pride of their fellow countrymen through this. This study approaches the basic images of national symbol which includes the country's name, national anthem, national flag through the design principle which could express some certain above level of pattern and composition. I suggested various applicative motif based on basic expressions of each individual image and the applied sample goods of this idea, and through the introduction of the process of image development, and I tried to offer a moment of more prosperity and development at a later time. This is for encouraging fellow citizens to use national symbol in the free and positive way which make them to increase a national pride, and give a familiar image in the citizens'daily life. • The emergence of the fourth industrial revolution is rapidly changing the conventional society and the industry, eroding the boundaries among the technology, culture, and finance. In the mobility industry, as the engineering-based industry converges with the information technology, the mobile space is changing from mobility or safety-centric space into space where the passengers can consume infotainment or contents services. The contents evaluation of the future mobility is conducted in terms of usability or technology acceptance aspect, but according to the trend analysis, the mobility industries, such as vehicle OEMs, it is necessary to evaluate the emotional or sensibility factors for the development of their future mobile space design. Herein, this research study evaluates which sensibility factor should be evaluated in priority to develop the contents interaction in the future mobile space. Thus, using Patrick Jordan's Four Pleasure Model, the priority evaluation has been conducted among 116 Korean drivers. As a result of the statistical analysis and AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process), it has been found that first, it is necessary to evaluate psychological, ideological, social and physical sensibility in the respective order, and second, it is necessary to evaluate based on the contents user type.

  • The idea that parental involvement has a positive influence on gifted children is so intuitively appearing that society in general. and educators in particular, have considered parental involvement as the remedy for many problems in education. However the vast proportion of the literatures in this area give results qualitatively. Among the empirical studies that have investigated this issue quantitatively, there appear to be considerable inconsistencies. A meta-analysis was conducted to synthesize the quantitative literatures about the relationship between parental involvement and gifted development. The findings reveal a moderate relationship between parental involvement and gifted development. We focused on the effect between parental involvement and gifted development, and conducted meta-analysis involving correlation coefficients between the two constructs. Using correlation coefficients, We can get the effect size, and explain the influence. We initially identified 539 articles over twelve-year period. Based on abstracts of these 539 articles, 463 studies were used for analyzing the current stream of the study. Finally, 15 studies met our inclusion criteria, and were subsequently used in this meta-analysis. From the 15 studies, 37 variables influenced on gifted development were collected. Using meta-analysis, it is revealed that internal effects for gifted development have stronger relationship than parents' socioeconomic status. In addition, the differences between female and male student have been reducing.

  • The purpose of this study identified the effectiveness of the existent interventions, which had been applied to the teens in multicultural families in South Korea. Totally 29 relevant studies, including dissertations and published articles, published from 2008 to 2014, were systematically searched and analyzed through meta-analytic method. The study results revealed the specific conditions which made the intervention more effective for the teens in multicultural families. Specifically, the program could be most effective when the program had a social adaptation intervention type as well as aimed to middle school students as a target population. Also, the program could be most effective when the program had lower than 8 sessions, run 3-5 times a week, and had from 21 to 30 participants in one intervention group. In addition, current existing programs showed higher effect sizes on outcomes focusing on relationships rather than on those focusing on psychological problems. This study is theoretically meaningful in terms of quantitatively synthesizing the existing intervention programs for the teens in multicultural families. In addition, we expect that this study would practically contribute to develop evidence-based programs for those teens in multicultural families.
