  • This thesis has a research focus in effectively Practicing cooperative instruction where teacher-librarians play a role. The cooperative Instruction means to practice cooperatively with the subject teachers and teacher-librarians, in teaching subject matters(Korean, English, Social studies. Science, History, and so forth), using the school library. This thesis presents three steps by theory-model-support for a practice method through developing a cooperative instruction model. This is based on curriculum which is an axis of school education and an instructional design theory which is a base theory for subject matters.

  • Koreatech has recently adopted a long-term co-op program called IPP (Industry Professional Practice) to address problems in engineering education of Korea, but it is anticipated to face many difficulties in implementing the program due to lack of relevant experiences in Korea. In this regard, a performance evaluation scheme is required to improve the operational efficiency and judge the effectiveness of the IPP program at the same time. This study aims to develop a comprehensive performance evaluation model for the Koreatech co-op program on the basis of Kirkpatrick's four stage performance evaluation model for training programs. For this purpose, thorough review on the program evaluation literature and in-depth analyses of overseas cases of co-op performance evaluation were also conducted. The study is expected to help enhance the effectiveness of the IPP program and promote buy-in of a range of stakeholders for the first long-term co-op program in Korea.

  • This study analyzes the competency model of the Learning Factory at TU Darmstadt, Germany, aiming to derive implications for developing competency-based curricula in South Korean universities. It proposes an integrated model that combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience, allowing for the transformation of existing knowledge into necessary competencies for task execution. Additionally, it advocates for a learner-centered approach that enhances active engagement in the learning process, empowering students to take charge of their education. By implementing this integrated and learner-centered model, students can develop the transformative competencies required for future societal demands. This approach is expected to act as a catalyst for advancing competency-based education within South Korea's higher education system, ultimately fostering a more effective and responsive educational environment.

  • This study analyzed the frequency and level of scientific practices presented in secondary science textbooks. A total of 1,378 student activities presented in 14 middle school science textbooks and 5 high school integrated science textbooks were analyzed, using the definition and level of scientific practice suggested in the NGSS. Findings show that most student activities focus on three practices. Compared to the textbooks for the previous science curriculum, the practice of 'obtaining, evaluating, and communicating information' was more emphasized, reflecting societal changes due to ICT development. However, the practice of 'asking a question', which can be an important element of student-led science learning, was still rarely found in textbooks, and 'developing and using models', 'using math and computational thinking' and 'arguing based on evidence' were not addressed much. The practices were mostly elementary school level except for the practice of 'constructing explanations'. Such repeated exposures to a few and low level of practices mean that many future citizens would be led to a naïve understanding of science. The findings imply that it is necessary to emphasize various practices tailored to the level of students. In the upcoming revision of the science curriculum, it is necessary to provide the definition of practices that are not currently specified and the expected level of each practice so that the curriculum can provide sufficient guidance for textbook writing. These efforts should be supported by benchmarking of overseas science curriculum and research that explore students' ability and teachers' understanding of scientific practices.
