Relationship of Leisure Dance Participation, Physical Image and Self-Esteem among Women (생활무용 참가가 여성의 신체이미지 및 자아존중감에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship among women's leisure dance participation, physical image and self-esteem. The subjects in this study were 300 female adults who were selected by cluster sampling from the population that consisted of women who were in their 20s to 50s. In the population, some women got leisure dance at fitness clubs, sport lovers' clubs and dance academies in Seoul and Gyeoggn Province as of 2009, and the others didn't. As for the reliability of the questionnaires used in the study, the Cronbach alpha coefficient of the questionnaires was above .70. The major statistical methods utilized in this study were Frequencies, reliability factor analysis, analysis covariate, regression analysis and path analysis. The findings of the study were as follows: First, the women who got leisuer dance evaluated their own physical image and self-esteem more favorably than the others who didn't. Second, the length of participation affected the body shape, satisfaction level and flexibility, and the intensity of participation impacted on the body shape and muscular power. Third, the length of participation had an impact on self-esteem, and the frequency of participation exerted a negative influence on that. Fourth, the degree of participation had a causal impact on physical image and self-esteem. In other words, the degree of getting leisure dance affected self-esteem in a firsthand manner and exerted a secondhand influence on that through physical image as well. The findings of the study suggested that physical image was one of major parameters to link participation in rhythmic exercise and self-esteem.

Mediating Effects of Self-esteem and Social Support on the Relationship between Physical, Psychological Symptoms and Campus Life Satisfaction of Students (대학생의 신체적, 심리적 증상과 대학생활만족도와의 관계에서 자아존중감과 사회적 지지의 매개효과)

  • The study aimed to understand how general characteristics, health consciousness and health behavior of college students are related to physical symptoms, psychological symptoms, self-esteem, social support and the students' satisfaction with college life while it examined how self-esteem and social support are affected by the physical symptoms and psychological symptoms as depression and anxiety and the college life satisfaction. According to the results from path analysis, age, with the social support as a medium, appeared to have had a positive influence on the students' satisfaction with college life while physical symptoms, depression and anxiety had been found, with self-esteem and social support as a media, to affect the students' campus life satisfaction, with physical symptoms positively while depression and anxiety negatively. In conclusion, the study verified mediated effects, sizes and paths of both self-esteem and social support when they are related to physical symptoms, psychological symptoms and college students' satisfaction with their campus life.

Effects of Family Strength and Self-Esteem in Adolescents on Body Image (청소년의 가족건강성, 자아존중감이 신체상에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate factors affecting body image in adolescents. The subject of study is 140 adolescents in the three middle schools from the J city. The data were collected using a self-report questionnaire from March 15 to March 29, 2017. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, T-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression with SPSS 20.0 program. Body image was found to be in a significant positive correlation with family strength and self-esteem. The result of the multiple regression indicates the self-esteem(${\beta}=.24$, p<.05), family strength(${\beta}=.19$, p<.05) and gender(${\beta}=.16$, p<.05) predict 17.9% (F=11.10, p<.001) of body image. Therefore, it is necessary to develop self-esteem and family strength strategy intervention program for establishing a right body image of adolescents.

  • The objective of study is to investigate Oral health impact profile, Self-esteem and Body image of orthodontic patients and to use it as basic data in consultation and education for orthodontic patients. A self-reported questionnaire was filled out Orthodontic patients in Seoul, Daejeon and Cheongju from March 1 to March 30, 2018. There was a positive correlation between Oral health impact profile and Self-esteem, and there was a positive correlation with Body image. Self-esteem and Body image showed positive correlation. The general characteristics of orthodontic patients are related to oral health impact profile, self-esteem and body image. So as to improve and experience positive body image and self-esteem changes while providing correct information, searching and accepting the present body image.

Affecting Factors in Unemployment Stress among College Students -Focused on Physical Symptoms, Depression, Anxiety and Self-esteem- (대학생의 취업스트레스에 영향을 미치는 요인 -신체증상, 우울, 불안, 자아존중감을 중심으로-)

  • This study examined the correlation between college students' unemployment stress and affecting factors including physical symptoms, mental health, and self-esteem. In the results, students appeared to have more stress when they were female, in higher grades, in low satisfaction in their school life, in the lack of leisure time, in inadequate preparation for employment, and when they had none of those who could share their feeling on unemployment than students in the opposite situations. Students' physical and mental health had a positive relation with unemployment stress, and self esteem had a negative relation with unemployment stress. After multivariate analysis, the factors affecting unemployment stress were senior grade and depression. On the other hand, the factors predicting low umemployment stress were male sex, high level of self esteem, and satisfaction in preparation for employment. Therefore, the counselling program for employment preparation should include intervention strategies for enhancing self-esteem besides providing with information of employment.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between avatar image and self-concept of avatar users by utilizing focus group interviews and survey method. The subjects of the focus group interview were Freechal Avatar Club members, while those of the survey were 476 students, who attended middle schools, high schools and colleges at Seoul area. The data were analyzed by frequency, factor analysis, cluster analysis, chi-square test, one-way ANOVA and scheffe test. The main results were summarized as follows. First, the focus group interview revealed that avatar image types, which avatar users made use of, were ideal image, real image and fantastic image. Second, based on the avatar image types of focus group interviews, the researcher made out avatar image question items and conducted factor analysis of the question items: The avatar users pursued ideal image, real image and fantastic image. The avatar users groups were classified into ideal image group, real image group and fantastic image group by employing cluster analysis. Third, all of body-esteem and self-esteem were the highest at real image group, while all of that were the lowest at ideal image group.

  • The purpose of this study is to empirically identify the effect of women's motivation for choosing makeup colors on their perception of physical attractiveness and self-respect. Participants in this study were surveyed through questionnaires for 256 employees in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, and the collected data were analyzed in depth using statistical analysis methods of frequency analysis, factor analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The results derived through a series of research procedures are as follows: First, the motivation for women in the workplace to choose makeup colors showed a statistically significant influence on physical attraction perception. Second, the motivation for women in the workplace to choose makeup colors showed a statistically significant influence on self-esteem. Third, office workers' perceptions of physical attraction had a statistically significant impact on self-esteem.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of beauty healthcare behaviors of middle-aged women on physical esteem and psychological well-being. The subjects of this study were middle-aged women in Seoul and Gyeonggi area, and surveyed for 6 weeks starting from October 26, 2020, and 334 words were used for analysis. The analysis method used the SPSS 26.0 program to perform frequency analysis, factor analysis, and reliability analysis. To find out the correlation between beauty healthcare, physical esteem, and psychological well-being for middle-aged women, correlation analysis and multi-regression analysis were performed. the statistical significance level was set to p<.05. It was confirmed that beauty healthcare behavior had a statistically significant effect on physical esteem and psychological well-being.

Psychopathology, Self Esteem and Quality of Life in Cancer Patients with Radiotherapy (방사선 치료 중인 암환자의 정신병리, 자아존중감 및 삶의 질)

  • Objectives : As medical science develops, survival rate of cancer patients rises. Therefore, psychologic understanding and improving quality of life in cancer patients is getting greater significance. The Object of this study is to investigate sociodemographic and clinical characteristics, psychopathology, self esteem and quality of life in cancer patients and to provide useful information for therapeutic approach to cancer patients. Methods : The subjects were 41 patents who had been treated by radiotherapy and 20 normal people. Sociodemographic information and clinical characteristics of cancer patients were investigated, and SCL-90R for psychopathology, Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale for self esteem, WHOQOL-BREF for quality of life were administered to subjects. The results of both groups were compared and analysed, and correlation between variables were evaluated. Results : 1) The tendency of Somatization, obsession-compulsion, depression, anxiety, hostility, phobia, psychosis in cancer group were higher than normal group. Especially, somatization and anxiety in cancer group were significantly higher than normal group. 2) Self esteem and quality of life in cancer group were significantly lower than normal group. 3) No significance were found in comparison of psychopathology, self esteem and quality of life according to sociodemographic variables. Among clinical characteristics, higher somatization was shown in case of more weight loss, and higher somatization and lower quality of life was shown in the presence of pain. 4) Higher anxiety was significantly associated with lower self esteem, and Higher somatization and anxiety was significantly associated with lower quality of life. Conclusion : Cancer patients had various kinds of psychopathology, low self esteem and low quality of life. In particular, somatization and anxiety, self esteem and pain were found to be important factors to quality of life of cancer patients. Therefore, management of psychopathology, improving self esteem, pain control is necessary to improve quality of life in cancer patients.

Self-Esteem, Body Image and Factors Influencing on Maternal Fetal Attachment Behavior of Pregnant Women (임부의 자아존중감, 신체상 및 태아애착행위에 미치는 영향요인)

  • This purpose of this study was to investigate self-esteem, body image and maternal fetal attachment behavior in pregnant women and to identify factors influencing maternal fetal attachment behavior. Data were collected 188 pregnant women. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, Stepwise Regression Analysis. There were statistically significant difference in self-esteem on variables such as religion, income. There were statistically significant difference in body image on variables such as planned pregnancy. There were statistically significant difference in maternal fetal attachment behavior on variables such as religion, planned pregnancy. Self-esteem was positively correlated with body image. Maternal fetal attachment behavior was positively correlated with self-esteem and body image. Factors influencing maternal fetal attachment behavior were body image, religion, and planned pregnancy, which explained 15.6%. Findings provide useful information for further studies in maternal fetal attachment behavior of pregnant women. Therefore, to promote maternal fetal attachment behavior of pregnant women, it is necessary to standardized prenatal education program.
