The purpose of this study is to examine the moderating effect of family resilience in the relationship of abuse experience, self-esteem, family resilience, and suicide, and make suggestion for policies to improve family resilience to prevent suicide of the youth with abuse experience. For this, a survey was conducted with 600 people at middle and high schools in three districts in Jeollanamdo, and, except 53 copies, total 547 copies used. The scales used child abuse of Murray A. Straus (1979), suicide of Beck, Kovacs & Weissmen(1979), self-esteem of Coopersmith(1967), and family resilience of Boehm (2007). The results: First, 54.2% of experienced abuse, and, as for the suicide frequency based on abuse types, physical abuse scored high. Second, the regression analysis showed that abuse experience has a direct positive effect on suicide, and higher abuse experience led to more suicide. Also, abuse experience turned out to have indirect effect on suicide through self-esteem, which proves the mediated effect of self-esteem. Third, family resilience was proven to have mediated effect as abuse experience has a negative effect on suicide, and high self-esteem has a negative effect on suicide.

Authors surveyed intrafamilial child sexual abuse in the children under 15years old in clinical. We sent the semi-structured child sexual abuse questionnaires to 7055 board certified pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, family medicine and emergency medicine. Total respondents were 1205. The results from these respondents were as follows. 1) The numbers of respondents who have had the experience of treating victims of intrafamilial child sexual abuses were 157(13.0% of total respondents). 2) Among the perpetrators, 58(36.9%) were siblings and 32(20.4%) 26(16.6%) were step-fathers, and respectively. The most common age bracket was 10s(39.5%), and the next was 40s and 50s (33.7%) Almost all(98.7%) of the perpetrators were male. 3) The mean age of victims was $12.1{\pm}3.3$ years old, and all of the victims were female, and the number of victims who had previous mental or physical handicaps and behavior problems were 5(3.2%) and 8(5.1%) respectively. 4) The ways by which intrafamilial child sexual abuses were found were abnormal behaviors 45(28.7%), victim's own report 40(25.5%), pregnancy 18(11.5%), pain complaint 13(8.3%), other person's report 13(8.3%), and detection during examination 12(7.6%). 5) Time lags between intrafamilial child sexual abuses and hospital visits were after 1 month 97(61.8%), from 1 day to 1 week 29(18.5%), within 1 day 21(13.4%), and from 1 week to 1 month 10(6.4%). 6) Physical complications were perineal wound 93(59.2%), hymen rupture 90(57.3%), pregnancy 68(43.3%), wound of other part of body 11(7.0%), and sexually transmitted disease 4(4.5%). 7) Treatment for victims were discharge 92(58.6%), admission, operation or transfer to a bigger hospital 25(15.9%), psychiatry consult 19(12.1%), report to police(10.9%) and social work consult 3(1.9%). These results suggest that considerable numbers of physicians have had the experience of treating victims of intrafamilial child sexual abuses, and intrafamilial child sexual abuses are the major medical as well as social issue in children in Korea.
The purpose of this study was to identify groups depending on the change trajectory of child maltreatment in childhood and early adolescence. For this study, the data from waves two through six (2011-2015) of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS) were used. Participants included first-grade (n=2,300) and fourth-grade (n=2,325) elementary school students. A latent class growth model (LCGM) using Mplus 7.21 was adopted to classify the types of developmental trajectories of child maltreatment. The main results were as follows: First, in physical abuse, childhood from the second to the sixth grades was classified into four groups: decreased, low maintenance, increased, and no maltreatment type. In addition, early adolescence from the fifth grade of elementary school to the third grade of middle school was also classified into the same types. Second, in emotional abuse, childhood was classified into three groups: decreased, increased, and no maltreatment type. Early adolescence was classified into four groups: decreased, low maintenance, increased, and no maltreatment type. Third, in neglect, childhood was classified into four groups: maintenance, low decreasing, low increasing, and no maltreatment type. Early adolescence was classified into three groups: maintenance, low increasing, and no maltreatment type. According to the change of child maltreatment by developmental period, physical abuse continued from childhood to early adolescence, whereas emotional abuse and neglect increased in early adolescence compared to childhood. This study is meaningful in classifying latent classes depending on maltreatment types. Theoretical and practical implications were suggested based on the study results.
The purpose of this study was to explore the domestic violence experience of military's spouses and its impacts on child abuse and child's growth retardation. Then, the social work interventions were identified to curtail domestic violence experience and its impact on family including their spouses and children. The primary data was collected in 2015 by interviewing two hundred thirty eight spouses of military personnels, the military service 3 unit, the navy service 2 unit, the airforce service 2 unit. The result showed that children of the military families experienced emotional abuse (51.4%), physical abuse (28.9%) and neglect (3.8%). And an association between childhood experience of abuse and perpetration of child abuse was found with a perfect mediation effect of family conflict. Based on the results, social welfare intervention program was suggested to reduce domestic violence among military families in South Korea.

Most cases of child abuse in South Korea are caused by parents in the family home. Currently, these types of incidents are growing. Child abuse creates irreparable damage to a child's development and its effects are prolonged. This damage can create a maladjusted adolescent and adult criminal acts. Because of this damage and the long lasting effects on a person and society as a whole, special attention needs to be paid to this pressing issue. South Korea's rapidly changing social environment has created a variety of new family forms including dual-income families and single-parent families. With the current economic downturn and accompanying employment instability, many families exist in uneasy financial and emotional states. The children in these stressful family environments are the most vulnerable and live in risk of experiencing physical or psychological abuse from their parents. In the context of significant and often difficult social changes, this study identifies the characteristics of child abuse based on family status and parental mental health.
The purpose of this study was to examine the state of parent education experienced by parents and the state of child education at home relation to infant/preschooler abuse prevention. The subjects in this study were 302 selected parents who resided in I city and whose children were in infancy or early childhood. A survey was conducted, and frequency analysis or chi-square test was carried out after their answer sheets were gathered. The findings of the study were as follows: As for the state of parent education, the parents who received education related to infant/ preschooler abuse prevention accounted for 12.6 percent, and the parents who were taught about all the four types of abuse outnumbered the others who weren't. The parents received that education at institutions for early childhood education by experts in child abuse and early childhood education, and they replied they were satisfied with that education. As for the state of child education, the parents who replied they provided abuse prevention education for their children at home accounted for 25.2 percent, and they answered they taught about physical abuse and how to cope with abuse. They responded they started to conduct this education in their homes when their children were in infancy, and they did it frequently in daily life mainly through conversations. They told it's difficult for them to offer this education at home due to a shortage of abuse-related materials. And whether they offered that education for their children or not at home was significantly different according to whether they received parent education or not. Given the findings of the study, the necessity of the development of manuals for abuse prevention education that can easily be used at home without any modifications was suggested, and education on neglect and the revitalization of publicity are required as well.
Purpose I investigated how beliefs in punishment have influence on child abuse. Also, I investigated how socio-demographic variables of parents' have influences on child abuse by parents. Sampling was conveniently and total 160 parents replied to the study. Data analysis was done by descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation using SPSSWIN. The results were as follows. Mild child abuse: 'Throwing the object at me(21.1%)', 'Clutching, and pushing (21.0%)', 'Slapping on the cheek (19.1 %), Severe child abuse: 'Kicking, pounding and biting(4.1%)', 'Rod, stick, belt, broom beating using a various objects such as(51.7%)', 'Beating all over the body(6.8%)'. Very severe child abuse: 'Burning with cigarette (0%)', 'Threatening me with a knife, a hammer, a naxe, a gimlet the objects such as(0.7%)', 'Injuring me with the objects such as (0%)', 'Hospitalized by belting(0%)'. Correlations of major variables were as follows. Physical child abuse by elementary student's parents has significantly positive correlation with beliefs in punishment(r= .244 p= .003) and has significantly negative correlation with parent's age(r=-.273, p=.001). But physical child abuse has not significant correlations with family income, education. Conclusion: Beliefs in punishment of parents have influences on child abuse. To prevent child abuse, effective parenting program development is required.
This article reports on the analysis of the patterns and frequency of recurrences of substantiated instances of maltreatment in the Child Protective System (CPS). The data was collected from 2012 to 2014 by the CPS. Five-thousand-five-hundred-forty-two cases were substantiated in 2012 and then 323 cases were exposed recurrence during that time. Most recurrence families experienced only one recurrence. Results from survival analyses instances indicated that risk of recurrence was greatest during the first one month following a report. The prior CPS report, multiple type of abuse, physical abuse, and services type was linked the pattern of recurrence of maltreatment. Also, victim's age and the number of problematic behavior, perpetrator's stress and social isolation, intra family member as perpetrator, prior CPS report, and the number of reports was linked recurrence.

Purpose:To review and determine the complications in 76 child abuse cases recorded by a multidisciplinary hospital-based child protection team between 1987 and 2007. Methods:We retrospectively reviewed the reports and medical records of child abuse cases maintained by a university hospital-based child protection team. We devised a questionnaire for standardized interviews with the victims' guardians to determine the current physical and mental status of the children; questionnaires were answered by social workers of the child protection team who interviewed the present fosterers of 24 (35.8%) children. Results:Of the 76 children, 6 were infants, 10 were 1-3 years old, were 3-10 years old, and 19 were over 10 years old. Seven children (9.2%) were neglected and 27 (35.5%) and 44 (57.9%) were sexually and physically abused, respectively. In more than half of the cases, the perpetrators were the father or mother of the children. Most children (41 cases, 53.9%) were abused at their homes. The mean follow-up duration from the time of abuse infliction was $54.3{\pm}49.2$ months, and the current mean age of the children was $8.3{\pm}6.4$ years. Moderate and severe developmental delay and physical disability were observed in 6 (25.0%) and 3 (12.5%) cases, respectively. In 13 children (54.2%), the Global Assessment of Functioning Scale (GAF) score was less than 60, which indicates mild mental disability. Conclusion:A hospital-based child protection team may witness the different proportion of abuse types and patterns by conducting a nation-wide survey of child abuse cases.
