  • A biosensor based on the measurement of capacitance changes has been designed and fabricated for simple and realtime detection of bacteria. Compared to an impedance measurement technique, the capacitance measurement can make additional measurement circuits simpler, which improves a compatability for integration between the sensor and circuit. The fabricated sensor was characterized by detecting Escherichia coli(E. coli). The capacitance changes measured by the sensor were proportional to E. coli cell density, and the proposed sensor could detect $1{\times}10^6$ cfu/ml E. coli at least. The real-time detection was verified by measuring the capacitance every 20 minutes. After 7 hours of E. coli growth experiment, the capacitance of the sensor in the micro volume well with $4.5{\times}10^5$ cfu/ml of initial E. coli density increased by 20 pF, and that in another wells with $1.5{\times}10^6$ cfu/ml and $8.5{\times}10^7$ cfu/ml initial E. coli density increased by 56 pF and 71 pF, respectively. The proposed sensor has a possibility of the real-time detection for bacterial growth, and can detect E. coli cells with $1.8{\times}10^5$ cfu in nutrient broth in 5 hours.

  • Cambodia is the representative of developing country in Southeast Asia region. As a view point of water resource, Cambodia has in abundance but public sanitation problems persist in rural areas due to unsafe drinking water and untreated human waste. The purpose of this research is to prepare and develop new strategies for the water aid program in Cambodia by assessing, reviewing, and analyzing the present situation of water pollution for rural areas and the existing water use cycle in these regions. Pproyap and Langthle regions in Pursat province are selected as research areas. Cambodian's rural population in research areas relies on surface water stored in drinking-detention swamps, rain-water jars, and unprotected wells. The two types of main measures, thermotolerant coliform(TTC) bacteria and general pollutants, were conducted to assess the quality of selected water samples for research areas. TTC is a bacterial indicator of waterborne fecal contamination. For the 26 water samples, only one of the samples met the WHO standard for safe drinking water of 0 TTC colony forming units/100 mL.

  • Snapping triceps syndrome is a rare condition in which a distal portion of triceps and ulnar nerve dislocate over the medial epicondyle as the elbow is flexed or extended from flexed position. Because it is frequently misdiagnosed as other elbow pathologies, accurate diagnosis is essential and imaging study is often needed to confirm the abnormal movement of ulnar nerve and triceps. Ultraonography is a convenient and effective method which is able to allow continual visualization of soft tissue movement compared to the other imaging modality including MRI. We reported one patient of snapping triceps syndrome who was diagnosed with the use of dynamic ultrasonography and treated with ulna nerve anterior transposition and repositioning of medial head of triceps. And we also provide the usefulness of musculoskeletal ultrasonography for the diagnosis of snapping triceps syndrome.

  • The localized form of a giant cell tumor of tendon sheath rarely affected the large weight-bearing joints. Only four cases of localized giant cell tumor arising in the knee joint could be found in the literatures. Physical examination of the affected knee could show pain, swelling, locking, giving way and limitation of extension, but it was difficult to differentiate from meniscal tear or cruciate ligament tear. Two cases of localized giant cell tumor of tendon sheath were incidentally found in the knees during the reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligaments. Both tumors arising from the anterior cruciate ligament were excised arthroscopically and were confirmed to be localized giant cell tumor of tendon sheath by microscopic examination. The clinical results were good after complete excision, so we reported these cases with a review of the literatures.

  • Objective : Flat back syndrome constitutes a syndrome complex characterized by the loss of normal lumbar lordosis. Various techniques of correction for flat back syndrome have been reported. Posterior extension osteotomy has certain drawbacks. Forceful hyperextension of the spine may result in vascular complications such as rupture of the aorta or the inferior vena cava and stretching of superior mesenteric artery, and pseudoarthrosis. We describe a rationale and technique of transvertebral posterior extension osteotomy to avoid complications of posterior extension osteotomy and to achieve an correction of 30 degrees of flat back syndrome. Method : A 63-year-old woman with degenerative lumbar kyphosis presented with low back pain, thigh pain, knee pain and walking difficulty. Transpedicular fixation from L1 vertebra to S1 vertebra was accomplished for lumbar degenerative kyphosis. After 6 months, the patient presented with flat back syndrome. A second operation was performed with transvertebral posterior extension osteotomy. Result : With short segemental fusion, early bone fusion and correction of 30 degrees were achieved. Conclusion : Transvertebral posterior extension osteotomy provide an 30-60 degrees of correction of flat back syndrome. This technique is considered to be good method for the revision of lumbar degenerative kyphosis.

  • The isometric rehabilitation program was applied to 47 people of the aged low back patients(man 22 people, woman 25 people) twice a week for 8weeks. The Medx was used to study an effect on a change for extended strength ratio(ESR) according to a posture change. The isometric ESR at each flexion angle ($0^{\circ}$, $12^{\circ}$, $24^{\circ}$, $36^{\circ}$, $48^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, $72^{\circ})$ was measured total 3times("before excercise", "on 4th week after excercise", "8th week after excercise") and analyzed. So, we could come to a conclusion as follows. 1. The maximum extended strength measured at a range of 7 angles for an isometric excercise of 8 weeks increased than "before an excercise", including that men have an increase of 39.51% and women have 62.92% in training effect. All of men and women showed statistically significant increase in physical strength(p<.001).excercise") and analyzed. So, we could come to a conclusion as follows. 2. After an excercise of 8 weeks, man showed 62.17% at zero degree and 49.115% at 12 degree respectively in maximum extended strength. Women showed 106.6% at zero degree and 86.16% at 12 degree. In view of this, respectively man have increase rate of physical strength over 31% and women have over 46% at all angles, also have significant increase in extension angle(p<.001). 3. A change for isometric ESR have a decrease of 27.68% for men and 74.66% for women than before isometric excercise of 8 weeks statistically significantly(p<.05, p<.00l). Men showed 1.77:1 of a similar ratio in the decrease effect comparing with normal people, but women showed 225:1.

  • The meniscus is considered "extruded" when it extends beyond the tibial margins more than 3 mm in a coronal view of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). However, identifying the meniscal extrusion intraoperatively may be difficult because of the simple fact that most of the arthroscopic procedures are done in knee flexion position while follow up MRI studies area taken at knee extension position. Here, we demonstrate the arthroscopic technique for evaluating the meniscal extrusion.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the dynamic balance and activity of internal oblique muscle, multifidus muscle, gluteus maximus muscle, biceps femoris muscle during the Y balance test following the wearing of pelvic compression belt. Forty healthy adults were recruited for this test. The dynamic balance score was estimated as the following: (anterior+posteromdial+posterolateral)/($3{\times}leg$ length)${\times}100$. The electromyography signals were measured through %reference voluntary contraction, which was normalized by reference voluntary contraction of Y balance test without wearing the pelvic compression belt. The paired t-test was carried out to compare the dynamic balance score and the activity of the trunk and hip extensor with and without the wearing of pelvic compression belt. The dynamic balance score of the Y balance test when wearing pelvic compression belt was significantly than when measured without wearing the pelvic compression belt (p<.05). The muscle activity of the internal oblique and the multifidus was significantly decreased when wearing pelvic compression belt (p<.05). The muscle activity of the gluteus maximus was significantly increased when wearing pelvic compression belt (p<.05). However, there was no significant difference in hamstring muscle activity, with or without wearing the belt (p>.05). In conclusion, this study shows that the wearing of pelvic compression belt affects trunk muscle and hip extensor muscle activity related to the pelvic mobility and stability and increases dynamic balance and also contributes to the stabilization of the external pelvic stabilization.
