Acute pyelonephritis (APN) is a relatively common bacterial infection in children. In previously healthy children, acute kidney injury (AKI) is very rare in the course of APN without urinary tract obstruction, renal hypoperfusion due to hypotension or exposure to nephrotoxic agents. We describe a case of AKI secondary to APN and renal abscess in a child with vesicoureteral reflux. With antibiotic treatment and adequate hydration, the patient was improved. APN should be included in the differential diagnosis of AKI and adequate treatment by proper antibiotics is crucial for full recovery of renal function.

To understand the course of renal diseases well, we must have basic knowledges of histologic procedures of renal biopsy samples as well as basic pathologic changes. This article describes the method of dividing the biopsy samples, fixatives for various pathologic examinations and basic pathologic changes of glomerular diseases. For light microscopic examination, color changes of glomerular structures in PAS, trichrome and PAM stains, normal glomerular patterns compared to various glomerulopathies are introduced. While describing typical staining patterns and intensities of fluorescence in membranous glomerulopathy and IgA nephropathy, basic interpretation of immunofluorescent microscopic examination is described. To understand electron microscopic pictures of renal diseases, preference locations of electron dense deposits in various glomerulonephrites are described with schema. This article is the introduction part of the renal pathology and for the further detail changes of specific entities, we should reference the renal pathology textbooks or articles.

In this paper, a mechanism that produces an approximation edges minimum spanning tree swiftly using virtual nodes called portals dividing given edges into same distance sub-edges. The approximation edges minimum spanning tree can be used in many useful areas as connecting communication lines, road networks and railroad systems. For 3000 random input edges, when portal distance is 0.3, tree building time decreased 29.74% while the length of the produced tree increased 1.8% comparing with optimal edge minimum spanning tree in our experiment. When portal distance is 0.75, tree building time decreased 39.96% while the tree length increased 2.96%. The result shows this mechanism might be well applied to the applications that may allow a little length overhead, but should produce an edge connecting tree in short time. And the proposed mechanism can produce an approximation edge minimum spanning tree focusing on tree length or on building time to meet user requests by adjusting portal distance or portal discard ratio as parameter.

Overuse of antibiotics has significantly contributed to an increase in microbial antibiotic resistance, causing difficulties in the suppression of microbe-borne infectious diseases. In this study, we determined the anti-Klebsiella pneumoniae effect in the kidneys of mice induced by peptides isolated from H. illucens larvae. Mice were intranasally infected with a high dose of K. pneumoniae and 1 day later, peptides were introduced through the intramuscular route. Mice were sacrificed on day 10 upon K. pneumoniae infection to determine the bacterial loads in the kidneys. Mice receiving peptide treatment demonstrated significantly reduced bacterial loads, reduced bodyweight loss, and higher survival in a dose-dependent manner compared to control. These results indicate that peptide isolated from H. illucens larva inhibits K. pneumoniae infection in the kidney. The peptide from H. illucens larva could be a potential candidate for the development of an effective antibacterial drug.

To offer insights in organizing professional development programs to promote teachers' substantial ongoing learning, this paper provides an overview of situative perspectives in terms of cognition as situated, cognition as social, and cognition as distributed. Then, it describes research findings on how mathematics teachers can enhance their knowledge and thus improve their instructional practices through participation in a professional development program that mainly provides opportunities to learn and analyze students' mathematical thinking and to perform mathematical tasks through which they interpret the understanding of students' mathematical thinking. Further, it shows that a knowledge of students' mathematical thinking is a powerful tool for teacher learning. In addition, it suggests that teacher-researcher and teacher-teacher collaborative activities influence considerably teachers' understanding and practice as such collaborations help teachers understand new ideas of teaching and develop innovative instructional practices.

The rheological properties of dough made from composite flour containing 30% of buckwheat flour with 80% of extraction rate and 70% of wheat flour, with addition of vital wheat gluten and/or gums, were studied for the development of buckwheat bread. From the farinograph data, water absorption, development time, and stability of the dough decreased as the amount of buckwheat flour increased. However, the addition of gluten increased the water absorption and development time but decreased the weakness of the dough. The use of xanthan gum showed a stability-increasing effect. From the extensograph data, extension and strength of the dough decreased with increasing amount of buckwheat flour, but resistance to extension increased. The addition of gluten increased the extension and strength of the dough, but decreased the resistance to extension. Guar and xanthan gum added at 0.2% level had little effect on extensograph data of the dough. Overall, addition of, vital wheat gluten improved the properties of buckwheat bread dough better than water-soluble gums.

In this study, muscle fatigue of biceps and triceps during isometric exercise depending on concentric contraction and eccentric contraction was evaluated using EMG. 12 healthy male volunteers was performed concentric exercise and eccentric exercise by maximum flection and extension of elbow joint. Integrated EMG (IEMG) in time domain and mean power frequency (MNF) in frequency domain were calculated. MNF of the biceps and triceps was decreased, whereas IEMG was increased during concentric contraction and eccentric contraction. But muscle fatigue index appeared higher at region of stretched muscle length. in this result, muscle fatigue occurs at both biceps and triceps muscle during concentric and eccentric exercise, and muscle fatigue was affected by muscle contraction and extension.

고분자 물질의 신장점도를 측정하기 위하여 설계된 수렴관을 지나는 시험 유체 M1 에대하여 유한요소방법으로 수치모사를 수행하였다. 구성방정식은 세 개의 이완시간을 가진 적분형 K-BKZ모형을 사용하였다. 신장변형이 지배적이고 변형속도가 매우 큰 흐름에 대하 여 실험적 방법으로 측정이 가능한 범위까지 수치모사를 수행하였다. 두 개의 압력 측정꼬 지 사이의 벽면 압력차에 대하여 압력 신호로 측정한 실험값을 수치모사결과와 비교하였다. 걷보기 전단속도가 매우 큰 1300s-1에 이르는 높은 유속의 전 실험범위에 대하여 안정된 수 치해를 얻을수 있었다. 3$0^{\circ}C$에서는 모든 실험범위의 유속에서 압력차에 대한 수치모사 결과 가 실험값과 잘일치했다. 21$^{\circ}C$에서는 0.1$\times$10-3m3/s보다 낮은 유속범위에서 실험값과 일치하 는 결과를 얻었으나 그보다 높은 유속에서 실험값과 일치하는 결과를 얻었으나 그보다 높은 유속에서 실험값과 다른 경향의 결과를 얻었다. 이것은 낮은 온도 높은 유속 조건에서 M1 유체의 성질이 불안정하고 또한 그러한 조건의 실험에서 발생한 압력 측정꼭지 부근의 기포 들이 정확한 압력측정에 영향을 끼쳤기 때문이다. 수치모사 결과로부터 얻은 압력과 응력분 포로부터 수렴관 유변측정기의 유동특성을 밝힐수 있었다. 이는 실험적 방법을 통해서는 얻 기 어려운 결과들로서 중요한의미를 가진다. 특별한 모양을 갖도록 설계된 수렴관을 통과하 는 M1 유체가 중심부근에서 일정한 신장변형속도로 변형됨을 확인할 수 있었으며 수직응력 은 지수적으로 증가하다가 축소부분을 지난 후 매우 장점도를 얻기 위하여 신장변형속도가 일정한 구역이 두 배로 확장된 수렴관이 수치적으로 다루어졌고 이를 통하여 기존의 수렴관 에서 구한 값보다 큰 신장점도를 얻을 수 있었다.

A 25-year-old female California sea lion (Zalophus californianus) died after a history of depression, loss of appetite, weakness and weight loss. At necropsy, multifocal to coalescing, tan to white, firm nodules, ranging from 0.5 to 3 cm in diameter were observed throughout both kidneys. Renal adenocarcinoma metastasis to the liver, spleen and small intestine was diagnosed based on gross and histopathological findings. To the best our knowledge, this is the first reported case in Korea, and understanding this case will support management and diagnosis of future cases of renal adenocarcinoma in California sea lions.

A 7-year-old castrated male Yorkshire Terrier was presented with a palpable intra-abdominal mass. In radiography, a large radioopaque renal mass and small abdominal mass were found on dorsal area of the abdomen. Grossly, red to brown color mass and a cystic structure (hydronephrosis) were embedded in the right kidney. Histopathologically, the mass had many irregular shaped neovascular channels lined by polygonal or oval shaped endothelial cells. These vessels and neoplastic cells had great invasive tendency to adjacent connective or fat tissues. Small abdominal mass had identical morphologic features as in renal mass. According to immunohistochemistry, the neoplastic cells in renal mass demonstrated strong positive signals for vimentin and CD31, and weak positive for von Willbrand factor. However, there were no positive reactions for cytokeratin. Based on the gross, histopathology and immunohistochemistry, this mass was diagnosed as primary renal hemangiosarcoma in a Yorkshire Terrier dog.
