To investigate the vegetation structure of mountain ridge from Bammeorijae to Woongseokbong, 25 plots($400m^2$) selected by random sampling method were surveyed. Three groups of Quercus mongolica - Pinus densiflora community, Q. dentata community and Q. mongolica - Q. dentata community were classified by cluster analysis. Q. dentata, Q. variabilis, Pinus densiflora, Acer pseudosieboldianum and Q. mongolica were found as mostly dominant woody plant species in the Woongseok-bong area. In the future, the importance percentage of Pinus densiflora might be eventually decreased, but those of Q. mongolica, Q. variabilis and Q. dendata might be gradually increased. There were strong positive correlations between Pinus densiflora, Zanthoxylum piperium and Lindera obtusiloba; Q. mongolica and Rhododendron mucronulatum; Styrax obassia and R. schlippenbachii; Fraxinus sieboldiana, Zanthoxylum piperium and Styrax obassia; Acer pseudosieboldianum and Fraxinus sieboldiana; Cornus controversa and Corylopsis coreana were relatively weak negative correlations between Q. dentata and Q. mongolica; Lindera erythrocarpa, Q. mongolica and Q. variabilis; Q. mongolica, Larix leptolepis and Q. variabilis; Symplocos chinensis for. pilosa and Rhododendron mucronulatum. Species diversity index(H') of investigated groups was ranged from 0.09832 to 1.1102.
To investigate the vegetation structure of mountain ridge from Suryeong to Sosagogae, 10 plots(500$m^2$) set up with random sampling method were surveyed. Three groups, Quercus dentata-Fraxinus rhynchophylla community, Quercus mongolica-Fraxinus rhynchophylla community, Quercus mongolica community, were classified by cluster analysis. Quercus mongolica was found as a major woody plant species in the ridge area from Suryeong to Sosagogae. Quercus dentata and Fraxinus rhynchophylla were occupied partly in lower elevation. Species diversity(H') of investigated groups was ranged from 1.7295∼2.6525 and it was similar to that of the ridge area of the national parks in Baekdudaegan. Rare and endangered species, Rhododendron tschonoskii recorded from the list of the Forest Administration distributed between the rocks on the top of the Sambongsan, the long-term habitat monitoring might be required.
To investigate the vegetation structure of mountain region from Wolgagsan to Dogabjae, 14 plots($2000m^2$) set up with random sampling method were surveyed. Two groups of Quercus variabilis-Pinus densiflora community, Quercus mongolica-Quercus acutissima community were classified by cluster analysis. Quercus variabilis, Pinus densiflora, Quercus mongolica, Quercus acutissima, Quercus dentata and Quercus serrata were found as a major woody plant species in Weolchulsan National Park region. In this area, Quercus variabilis and Pinus densiflora were dominated partially. In the future, the importance percentage of Pinus densiflora might be decreased, but those of Quercus variabilis, Quercus mongolica, Quercus acutissima and Quercus dentata might be increased. High positive correlations was proved between Quercus variabilis and Pinus rigida; Styrax japonica and Quercus dentata, Quercus acutissima; Pinus rigida and Lindera erythrocarpa, Pinus densiflora; Lindera obtusiloba and Rhododendron mucronulatum; Albizzia julibrissin and Styrax obassia, and relatively high negative correlations was proved between Diospyros kaki and Quercus dentata; Platycarya strobilacea and Lindera erythrocarpa; Symplocos chinensis for. pilosa and Quercus acutissima; Styrax japonica and Styrax obassia; Pinus rigida and Lindera obtusiloba, Fraxinus sieboldiana, Rhododendron mucronulatum; Quercus mongolica and Albizzia julibrissin. The flora and vegatation of the Southwest Chuncheon area were investigated from March, 2006 to September, 2007. The vascular plants were summarized as 914 taxa; 111 families, 448 genera, 766 species, 2 subspecies, 119 varieties, and 27 forma. Among the investigated 914 taxa, 33 Korean endemic, four endangered, and 26 rare plants were included. Based on the list of the species of specially designated plants by the Ministry of Environment, 152 taxa were recorded in the investigated area. The naturalized plants were 46 taxa, and life form spectra was H-R5-D1-e type. 914 taxa listed consists of 308 taxa(33.7%) of edible plants, 276 taxa(30.2%) of medicinal plants, 148 taxa(16.2%) of pasture plants, 127 taxa(13.9%) of ornamental plants, 36 taxa(3.9%) of timber plants, 25 taxa(2.7%) of fiber plants and 4 taxa(0.4%) of industrial plants. The vegetation of Southwest Chuncheon area were classified five communities as Betula costata-Acer mono, Quercus mongolica, Quercus mongolica-Quercus variabilis, Quercus mongolica-Quercus dentata, and Pinus densiflora.
This study was carried out utilzing ability of sole carbon sources in soil microbial communities used by Biolog GN microplate. Cluster analysis showed that soil microbial cornmuties were categorized into three groups as forest, non-forest soil and naked soil of microbial group. Soil microbial commutites in a forest soil of Qirercus mongoIica was divided into another group microbial communites in Qirercus dendata vegetation soil and Pinus dnzsqlora vegetation soil by Multidimensional scaling(MDS). Generally, sole carbon utilzing abilties were higher in order of polymer, amino acids and carboxylic acids, but it was lower in amides substrates carbon group. From the result: it was supposed that metabolic diversity of microbial communities was corresponded to vegetation succession.

In the present study, the characteristics and changes in the vegetation of Mt. Cheongryang, Inchon, were examined to identify and determine appropriate ways to restore the health of the urban forest and to preserve its vegetation. The vegetation of the community of Quercus mongolica (Mongolian oak) on Mt. Cheongryang appeared to decrease in response to the control of the wilt disease of oak trees. The communities of Sorbus alnifolia (Korean mountain ash) and Styrax japonicus (Snowbell tree) have increased. Pinus rigida (Pitch Pine) had its overall territory decrease, but the current state of the Pinus rigida (Pitch Pine) was estimated to be stable due to its dominance as a tree layer species. In regards to Robinia pseudoacacia (Black Locust), the urbanized species of Sorbus alnifolia (Korean mountain ash), and Styrax japonicus (Snowbell tree), their areas have increased with the appearance of Magnolia obovate (Whiteleaf Japanese Magnolia). The biodiversity of Mt. Cheongryang has decreased by simplifying species in the tree layer and understory species thereof, and the initial success of species in marginal areas has increased. The absence of potential succession was attributed to the termination of ecological succession; thereby, the current vegetation structure was concluded to be remaining as it is for the time being. Soil texture in the mountain primarily consisted of sandy loam or loamy sand; the pH of the soil was in the range 4.26-4.86, rendering a mean pH of 4.59. The content of organic matter (O.M.) appeared having a distributing range of 2.18-9.60%, rendering a mean value of 4.33%. To promote species diversity, several methods are suggested, such as prevention of soil acidification, selecting nationally-grown trees from moist soil or valleys for afforestation, preventing species appearing due to urbanization or excessive growth, protecting the understory vegetation and species with hygropreference, and managing the forest to maintain a multi-layered vegetation structure.

The purpose of this study was to furnish basic information for forest community ecology and to accumulate vegetational datum related to hierarchy of forest community for the efficient management of forest vegetation in Mt. Mani. Samples were collected and analyzed by 32 releves from August to October in 2010 using phytosociological analysis methodology of Z-M school and importance value analysis. The results were summarized that the forest vegetation was classified into 5 units in total. Importance value at vegetation unit 1 indicated Pinus densiflora 54.31 (18.10%), Quercus mongolica 39.21 (13.07%), Carpinus coreana 37.29 (12.43%), at vegetation unit 2 Quercus mongolica 89.43 (22.23%), Rhododendron mucronulatum 57.75 (14.43%), Carpinus coreana 47.19(11.80%), at vegetation unit 3 Styrax japonica 53.97 (13.50%), Acer mono 33.60 (8.40%), Carpinus coreana 26.48 (6.62%), Quercus serrata 22.51 (5.64%), at vegetation unit 4 Carpinus coreana 47.70 (11.92%), Quercus acutissima 38.40 (9.60%) and at vegetation unit 5 Evodia daniellii 80.59 (20.14%), Robinia pseudoacacia 35.00 (8.74%), Pueraria thunbergiana 28.63 (7.15%), Quercus dentata 28.20 (7.05%) in the order, respectively.
This study emphasizes syntaxonomy and syndynamics of intermediate (Zwischen) moor (area: 14,000 $m^2$) at Mt. Shinbul in Yangsan, southeastern Korean Peninsula. A total of 105 vascular plant species including 26 monitor-species were recorded. Analysis by the $Z\"{u}rich$-Montpellier School's method distinguished eight vegetation units: Eleocharitis-Blyxetum echinospermae ass. nov., Eriocaulon sikokianum-Utricularia racemosa community, Eleocharis wichurai-Molinia japonica community, Platanthero-Molinietum japonicas, Miscanthus sinensis for. purpurascens community, Tripterygium regelii community, Symplocos chinensis-Quercus mongolica community, Symplocos chinensis-Quercus dentata community. PCoA (Principal Coordinates Analysis) shows that vegetation changes and distributional aspects are associated with both moisture condition and sunlight on the ground layer and soil nutrient level (mesotrophic to oligotrophic). Most important to Molinietea japonicas being representative intermediate moor vegetation at the southeasternmost fringe of the Korean Peninsula is the local cooling effect by mountainous cloud and mist zone resulting in shorter and wetter growing season. The Yangsan moor vegetation was compared with earlier descriptions of related Mujechi moor from anthropogenic and natural moor vegetations.

This study was carried out to investigate the environment factors including community structure and soil characteristics in the wild habitats of Cephalotaxus koreana, and offers the basic information for habitats conservation and restoration. Most of the wild habitats were located at altitudes between 148~835 m with inclinations ranged as $12{\sim}32^{\circ}$. The average soil pH was 4.7~5.9, soil organic matter was 5.72~15.99%, cation exchange capacity was $14.1{\sim}19.9cmolc/kg^{-1}$ and exchangeable $K^+$, $Ca^{2+}$, $Mg^{2+}$ was 0.25~0.48 cmolc/kg, 0.79~6.68 cmolc/kg, 0.31~1.73 cmolc/kg, respectively. The dominant species of tree layer were found to be dominated by Quercus dentata in Jekbo-san (C1), Acer pictum in Bogae-san (C2), Acer pseudosieboldianum in Geumwon-san (C3), Q. serrata in Jiri-san (C4), Zelkova serrata in Baegun-san (C5), and Q. acutissima in Duryun-san (C6). The Species diversity (H') was 0.854~1.234, evenness (J') was 0.654~0.993, and dominance (D) was found to be 0.067~0.346. Correlation coefficients analysis based on environmental factors, community structure and value of species diversity shows that growth of Cephalotaxus koreana is correlated with species diversity and evenness. This result show that Cephalotaxus koreana habitats located in mature stands.

This study was carried out to understand the stand structure based on the compositional characteristics of natural deciduous forest dominated by Quercus species, which will provide with fundamental ecological and silvicultural information for effective forest management. Of two tracts selected from the Seoul National University Research Forests, one is located in Kwangju-Gun Kyunggi-Do, and the other in Kwangyang-Gun Chollanam-Do. Point-quarter sampling method w-as employed to survey woody vegetation confined to larger than 6cm in DBH. The numbers of sample points were 152 and 187, in Kwangju-Gun and Kwangyang-Gun, respectively. Comparative analysis for two forest tracts was made as follows ; 1) species composition by calculation of importance values ; 2) number of stems per hectare for major tree species ; 3) species diversity for the forests in two locations ; 4) inter-species association based on $X^2$ test. The relative dominate of Quercus speices showed 88% at Kwangju-Gun, Kyunggi-Do and 50% at Kwangy-ang-Gun. Chollanam-Do. Such high dominance occurred due to high importance values of Quercus variahilis and Q. mortgolica in both locations. Quercus serrata showed low value at Kwangju-Gun. Kyunggi-Do whereas Q. acutissirna, Q. dentata and Q. aliena did none at Kwangyang-Gun. Chollanam-Do. The species diversity and evenness in oak communities exhibited 0.82 and 0.61, respectively at Kwangju-Gun. Kyunggi-Do, while those did 1.09 and 0.73 at Kwangyang-Gun, Chollanam-Do. Therefore, it was considered that Ku-angju-Gun region was disturbed severely by human activities but Kwangyang-Gun region eras less disturbed. Frequent appearance of Carpinus and Acer species indicates increase in diversities and better development of succession at Kwangyang-Gun region.
