When visual and auditory information is presented simultaneously, we perceive visual information dominantly over auditory information. This effect is called the visual dominance effect. This study was to examine the influence of semantic congruence of visual and auditory information on the visual dominance effect. The semantic congruence of visual and auditory information was manipulated. The results showed that the visual dominance effect obtained in error rates was not modulated by semantic congruence, whereas the effect in RT was. It is suggested that this modulation of the influence of semantic congruence on the visual dominance effect would be due to the task type.

In order to analyze textbooks from a discursive approach, the purpose of this study is to structuralize an analytic framework based on previous literature review and apply it to analyzing the meanings and their syntheses developed by words and visual mediators appeared in the definition of graph in first-year middle school textbooks. The discursive approach consists of the communicational approach developed by Sfard(2008) and the systemic functional linguistics developed by Halliday(1985/2004). In this study, ideational meta-functions for ideational meanings and interpersonal meta-functions for interpersonal meanings were employed to analyze the meanings produced by words and visual mediators in textbooks, whereas textual meta-functions for textual meanings were used for analyzing the synthesized relationships between words and visual mediators. Results show that first, density in mathematical discourse was very high and subjects in mathematical activities were ambiguous in the ideational meanings of words, and behavior aspect was more emphasized than thinking aspect in the interpersonal meanings of words which request student participations. In the case of ideational meanings of visual mediators, there was a lack of narrative diagrams, whereas there were qualitative differences in the case of offer. Second, there was a need for promoting a wide range of diverse synthetic relationships between words and visual mediators for developing enriched mathematical meanings through the varying uses like specification, explanation, similarity, and complement. These results are so important that they provide a new analytic framework from a discursive approach to textbook analysis because not only words, but also visual mediators are analyzed as tools for producing meanings in mathematics textbooks and their synthetic relationships are also examined.

현재 다양한 시각 프로그래밍 시스템과 다이어그램을 사용하는 모델링 도구가 증가하고 있다. 이러한 도구에서 사용되는 각 그래픽 요소들은 매우 다양하고, 동일한 형태라도 의미가 다르며, 각 그래픽 요소들이 연결될 수 있는 형태가 다르기 때문에 범용적인 그래픽 편집기를 개발하기 어렵다. 본 논문은 다양한 시각 프로그래밍 언어에 적용가능한 편집기를 개발하기 위해 시각적인 표현에 필요한 기본적인 기능을 제공하는 추상적 시각 프로그래밍 편집기와 각 시각적 프로그래밍 언어마다 의미하는 그래픽 요소를 생성하는 토큰편집기를 가진 추상적인 시각 프로그래밍 시스템을 제안한다. 사용자는 제안한 시스템을 이용하여 각 언어별로 알맞은 명시적 시각 프로그래밍 편집기의 생성이 가능하다. 또한. 모든 명시적 시각 프로그래밍 편집기는 플랫폼에 독립적인 형태로 생성이 가능하다.

웹 상에는 많은 자원들과 정보들이 존재한다. XML은 이러한 자원들과 정보들을 구조화하기 위해서 개발되었다. XTM(XML Topic Maps)은 XML의 형태로 자원들과 정보들에 의미를 부여할 수 있는 언어이다. XTM은 Topic과 Association을 이용해서 자원들과 정보들이 가진 의미를 표현한다 XTM상에서 나타나는 Topic과 Association은 매우 거대하고 다양하기 때문에 모든 Topic과 Association을 한꺼번에 표현하기 어렵다 또한, 사용자가 수백만개의 Topic과 Association에서 원하는 Topic과 Association을 찾기 어렵다. 따라서 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위해서 다양한 시각화 방법이 연구되었다. 현재 Topic Maps을 표현할 때 트리, 그래프, 맵 등 하나의 구조를 이용해서 표현한다. 하지만 추상화정도에 따라 시각화 방법은 장ㆍ단점을 지닌다. 본 논문에서는 웹 상의 자원, 정보들과 의미 사이에 여러 계층이 존재하는 다층적 시각화를 제안한다. 각 계층은 독립적인 표현구조로 나타내어 추상화정도에 따라 최적화된 구조를 사용한다. 사용자는 자신이 원하는 Topic과 Association을 점진적 접근을 통해서 원하는 Topic과 Association을 검색할 수 있다. 또한 Topic이 Association의 member처럼 사용되는 경우, 시각적으로 Topic이 표현되면 Topic은 연결된 Association과 직접적인 연결을 갖는다.

In this paper, we suggest a visual language supporting collaboration with functional attributes. The visual language is a set of visual sentences that consist of object icons and operators. The object icon is a user who participates in collaboration. And, the operator means interactive relations between users according to a point of collaborative time. The functional attributes that support various computing orders provide flexibility of interactive relations on collaboration. Also, using representation both synchronous and asynchronous relations in collaboration, the visual language supports efficiently collaboration than conventional visual languages. And, functional attributes of visual sentences are analyzed using $\lambda$ expressions.

Visual messages are fundamental elements for performing communication and indicate the signs which are delivered from the communicator to the communicatee via channels, Generally, we can classify visual messages into two groups; linguistic factors which are rational and deliver abstract concepts and unlinguistic factors which are mental and can be expressed concretely. Especially, web site with receivers' low attention and concentration need images which can attract their attention to visual messages. That is, web site is a medium which allows us to feel visual and emotional experiences. We can call it a standard of sign systems which are consisted of various styles of digital texts. The main purpose of this study lies in that we'll analyze how homepage introductory page as one of the forms of digital text conduces a meaning action to the receivers and that we'll apprehend the structures of images and different types of signs via a semiotic approach and analyze the underlying meaning of the messages. In order to survey the structures of images we'll look into the attitude toward perceiving messages by using semantic differential method which has been developed mostly by Osgood and analyze the visual images by adopting sign types of Fuss. As the signification is created by combining signs, it is significant that we'll analyze the meaning of sings between the transmitters and receivers from the semiotic viewpoint and study the signification systems.

The universe of discourse presented in the visual image is bound up with the experience and culture of parties; its sender and recipient. Signification of visual message is revealed through the mutual independent process. The mechanism where production of signifiant by sender and reception of metaphoric signifiant function unconsciously can be applied to Lacan's theory;"The unconscious is structured like a language". By applying Lacan's metaphoric formula which takes linguistic approach to visual image it is suggested that analysis of signification is possible. This analysis can be a base for seeking varied level of signifiant presented in visual metaphor logically and practically. Metaphoric structure of the signifiant and the matrix analysis can develop a creative idea and propose a practical way for the visual image production. Thus empirical study about nastic response and the future analysis result is expected to be possible.

The syntax-directed translation using semantic actions is frequently used in construction of compiler for text programming languages. it is very useful for the language designers to develop compiler back-end using a syntax structure of a source programming language. Due to the lack of the integrated representation method for a parse tree node and modeling method of syntax structures, it is very hard to construct compiler using syntax-directed translation in visual languages. In this Paper, we propose a visual language compiler generation method for constructing a visual languages compiler automatically, using syntax-directed translation. Our method uses the Picture Layout Grammar as a underlying grammar formalism. This grammar allows our approach to generate parser efficiently u sing And-Or-Waiting Graph and encapsulating syntax definition as one unit. Unlike other systems, we suggest separating the specification and the generation of semantic actions. Because of this, it provides a very efficient method for modification.

SpeCifically, to maKe the color and formation language a signification-function as a generalized connotation to the public, a distinctive classified Visual language must be applied.
