Analysis of Problemic Smartphone Use and Life Satisfaction by Smartphone Usage Type (스마트폰 이용 유형별 스마트폰 과의존과 생활만족도 분석)

  • This study was attempted to investigate the factors that influence on problematic smartphone use and life satisfaction by smartphone usage type. A total of 25,465 people were used for the analysis and analyzed using the R (3.6.1) program. According to the data analysis, problematic smartphone use occurred in the form of leisure activity seeking and information seeking type. On the other hand, the communication type reduced problematic smartphone use. The type of smartphone use that had the greatest influence on life satisfaction was communication type The longer the smartphone use time and the higher the problematic smartphone use, the more negatively the life satisfaction.

Parenting Attitude and Over Dependence on Smart Phone Among Middle School Students: Mediating Effect of Basic Psychological Needs (부모 양육 태도가 중학생의 스마트폰 과의존에 미치는 영향: 기본심리 욕구의 매개효과)

  • This study was proposed to examine the mediating effect of basic psychological needs on how parenting attitude affect middle school students with over-dependence on smart phone. This study utilized 2017 survey research by National Information Society Agency (NIA), namely a long-term follow-up study of 901 people with over-dependence on internet and smart phone. This study showed two findings. First, over-dependence on smart phone had correlations with basic psychological needs- autonomy(r=-.22, p<.001) and competence(r=-.13, p<.001); with parenting attitude- positive parenting(r=-.21, p<.001) and negative parenting(r=.15, p<.001). Second, both parenting attitude and basic psychological needs had a causal relationship with over-dependence on smart phone. These results can provide a basis to reconsider social awareness on over-dependence on smart phone among middle school students. This study proposed few research directions for further study to prevent over-dependence on smart phone and to educate parents.

The Convergence Study of Smartphone Overdependence, Sleep Deprivation and Self-control in Some Dental Hygiene Students (일부 치위생과 학생들의 스마트폰 과의존과 수면부족 및 자기통제력 융합연구)

  • This study was conducted to identify the correlation between dental hygiene students' overdependence on smartphones, sleep deprivation, and self-control, and factors influencing self-control. 267 college students in the department of dental hygiene located in the Chungcheong area were surveyed and analyzed. Smartphone overdependence was positively correlated with sleep deprivation and smartphone overdependence was negative correlated with self-control. The sleep deprivation was negative correlated with self-control. Factors affected to self-control were problematic results and sleep deprivation. Therefore, it is necessary to develop education and programs that can increase the self-control of dental hygiene students and to prepare measures to prevent sleep problems and overdependence on smartphone.

  • Purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between the level of smartphone overdependence and depression among the high school student. Study subjects were 50 high school student. The assessment of the level of smartphone overdependence was used by the smartphone overdependence scale for adolescents and the assessment of the level of depression was used by Korean ver. of patient health questionnaire-9. As the results, the positive correlation was showed between the level of smartphone overdependence and depression and the statistically significant difference was showed. It was found that the higher the level of smartphone overdependence among high school students, the higher the level of depression. The smartphone overdependence among high school students could contribute to increase the level of depression. Thus, based on these results of this study, it is necessary to consider to reduce the level of smartphone overdependence and depression among high school students and subsequent studies should be conducted to clarify the casual relationship and influences of the level of smartphone overdependence and depression among high school students.

Factors Influencing the Smartphone Overdependence on Male Middle School Students in Era of Convergence (융복합 시대의 남자 중학생 스마트폰 과의존 영향요인)

  • This study is a descriptive study to investigate the influence factors on smartphone overdependenceon in male middle school students. A questionnaire survey was conducted on 174 male middle school students about their smartphone overdependence, stress, ego - resilience, and use of smartphone by function. In results, 29.9% (potential risk group 23.6%, high risk group 6.3%) of the male middle school students were the smartphone overdependency risk group. A higher smartphone overdependency was associated with the higher the smartphone usage time per day, the higher the stress level, the higher the grade, and the lower the ego-resilience level. This requires the involvement of appropriate stress coping styles to overcome excessive stress situations. And the development and implementation of an intervention program that increases the level of ego-resilience can be expected to have an effect of controlling the smartphone use time as well as the intervention effect on stress coping.

A Study on Evaluation and Improvement Plan for Applications for Smart-phone Overdependence Prevention (스마트폰 과의존 방지 애플리케이션 평가 및 서비스 주체별 개선방안 연구)

  • As the use of smartphones has rapidly increased due to the development of digital technology, the expansion of smartphones, and the COVID-19 incident, dependence on smartphones and the Internet is emerging as a serious social problem. As one of the solutions to the smartphone overdependence problem, the government and companies are releasing smartphone overdependence prevention applications. However, research on the effectiveness of smartphone overdependence prevention applications is insufficient. Therefore, this study selects 25 applications serviced in Korea as analysis targets and evaluates smartphone overdependence prevention applications in terms of function and service using the FGI survey method to identify problems and propose improvements. In the function evaluation, the functions of blocking illegal/harmful apps/websites, limiting smartphone usage time, and monitoring smartphone usage status are provided in most applications, so satisfaction scores are also highly evaluated. However, functions such as location check, smombie prevention, and body camphishing prevention served by some applications are evaluated low due to poor performance and poor accuracy. Classified by service provider, government-providing applications need to accurately perform functions and improve convenience of use. Mobile-Carrier-providing applications need to improve connectivity with other carriers and compatibility with other smart devices like smartphone, tablet, etc. Other private enterprise-providing applications need to open AS channels such as customer service centre and chatbot to improve service.

The Effects of Self-determination, Depression, Self-esteem, and Impulsivity on Smartphone Overdependence of College Students (대학생의 자기결정성, 우울, 자아존중감, 충동성이 스마트폰 과의존에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the influencing factors on smartphone overdependence by examining the relationships between smartphone overdependence, self-determination, depression, self-esteem, and impulsivity in male and female college students. The self-reported questionnaires were administered to 263 students from two colleges. As results of multiple regression analysis, the factors affecting smartphone overdependence in male students were the perception of smartphone importance (${\beta}=.411$, p<.001), impulsivity (${\beta}=.204$, p=.007), and depression (${\beta}=.200$, p=.040). In female students, influencing factors were the perception of smartphone importance (${\beta}=.630$, p<.001) and impulsivity (${\beta}=.185$, p=.010). Based on the findings, a tailored smartphone overdependence prevention program is needed by controlling impulsivity and changing distorted perceptions of smartphone.

The Effects of Depression of University Students on Smartphone Dependence: Focusing on the Mediating Effect of Self-efficacy (대학생의 우울이 스마트폰 과의존에 미치는 영향: 자기효능감의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to find out the actual status of smartphone students' dependence on college students, and to identify the correlation between depression, self-efficacy and smartphone overdependence, and the role of self-efficacy in the relationship between depression and smartphone overdependencee. The main results of the survey and analysis of 1,177 four-year college students located in Gyeonggi area are as follows. First, the percentage of college students' smartphone overdependence was very high at 34.1%. Second, there was a significant difference in prevalence of depression between the smartphone overdependence group(18.7%) and the general user group(11%). Third, self-efficacy showed a negative correlation with smartphone overdependence. The smartphone overdependence group showed significantly lower score in self-efficacy and self-regulation efficacy, confidence, and task difficulty preference than the general user group. Fourth, self-efficacy worked as a mediating variable in the relationship between depression and smartphone overdependence. In other words, the effect of depression on smartphone overdependence tended to decrease as self-efficacy rose in the relationship. Finally, we discussed the development of programs to support career and psychological counseling of university students.

Factors Associated with Dependence among Smartphone-Dependent Adults in Their 20s (스마트폰에 의존하는 20대 성인의 의존 관련 요인)

  • This study explored the factors associated with dependence among smartphone-dependent adults in their 20s. The data was derived from the 2017 survey on smartphone over-dependence conducted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Information Society Agency. The participants were 879 adults in their 20s. The data was analyzed by frequencies, percentages, means, standard deviations, independent t-tests, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. The results revealed instant messengers as the most used application by participants. Participants in the high risk category of dependence also used SNS (Social Networking Services), music, and games more than those in the potential risk category. The more serious the dependence, the greater the frequency of smartphone use (β=.16, p=.000), and use of games (β=.10, p=.028), webtoons (β=.14, p=.004), SNS (β=.09, p=.047), and financial transactions (β=.17, p=.000). They did not recognize their smartphone dependence when it was relatively low. However, when this became serious, they then realized that they depended on the smartphone more than others. That means that it is not easy for adults to recognize their smartphone dependence on their own. However, recognition of the problem is the first step for adults to solve their problems. A program that evaluates their problematic smartphone use should be installed and used on all smartphones.

  • The purpose of this study is to test the effect of smart-phone addiction on school adjustment. In detail, this study focus on mediating effect of psychological distress. For this purpose, Data Collected on 375 students at 4 high schools in the capital area were used in the analysis. Correlation analysis was conducted to find out the relationship between smart-phone addiction, school adjustment, psychological distress. To find out if smart-phone addiction and school adjustment are mediated by the relationship between psychological distress, the model was tested using a structural equation. The results of the study were as follows: The smart-phone addiction is found to have an adverse effect on high school students' school adaptation and a positive effect on psychological distress. And the results of the verification of the structural model showed a significant mediating effect of psychological distress in the relationship between smart-phone addiction and school adjustment. Based on the results of this study, significance and implications were presented.
