Composing Principles of Mathematics Exercise Books for Low Achievers in Mathematics Induced by an Analysis of 'Suhak-ikhimchaek', Korean Elementary Mathematics Workbook (수학익힘책 분석을 통한 수학부진아용 연습교재 구성 방식 연구)

  • Exercise is still an important method for mathematics learning and teaching, but there is only a few researches which involve the effectiveness of exercise in mathematics learning. This study is designed for giving some implications to researchers who are interested in developing mathematics exercise books for low achievers with respect to effectiveness. For this, 'Suhak-Ikhimchaek', the Korean elementary mathematics workbook, is chosen and in particular, 'multiplication number fact', one of the units of the book, is analyzed with the following respects: achievement levels of learners, arrays of exercise, the amounts and period of exercise, exercise type. Finally, this study proposes composing principles for developing exercise books for low achievers in mathematics.

  • ‘수학을 한다는 것은 수학자가 하는 것처럼 하는 것이다.’ 이 말은 여러 번의 시도와 실패를 반복해 가면서 ‘왜 이렇게 될까?’ 라는 의문을 가지고 여러 가지 창의적인 수학적 사고를 먼저 해보고 문제를 대하는 것을 뜻한다. 생활 속의 수학 문제는 바로 이 점에서 시사하는 바가 크다. 이런 수학 문제를 풀 때 학생들은 수동적이 아닌 능동적인 논리적 사고를 한다. 본 연구에서는 대학 입시제도로 인해 지금까지의 수학을 암기위주로 수동적으로만 학습하였던 수학 부진학생들에게 생활과 연관된 수학문제들을 제시함으로써 수학 우수 학생과 비슷한 능동적 구성활동을 유발할 수 있었으며 수학 부진 학생들과 우수 학생들의 지금까지 배운 수학 학습의 전이에 어떤 요인이 영향을 주었는지를 조사하였다.

The analysis of gender difference on mathematics achievement after learning using CAS on mathematics underachiever (수학학습부진아의 CAS을 도입한 학습 결과를 바탕으로 한 성차분석)

  • This paper analyzed about gender difference in the achievement of underachievers of high school students while learning using technology. Participants were composed of 67 underachievers on first grade in high school located in a metropolitan city. That had never used a mathematics educational calculator before. Target participants were divided into two groups: experiment group that studied activity papers with a CAS calculator. And control group that studied the same activity papers using only paper-and-pencil. The content of the activity papers for the two groups was the same, but the structure differed. The two groups completed mathematics achievement tests both before and after the activity papers. The results are that find out no difference of the mathematics achievement between boys and girls in each group, and that the mathematics achievement of boys in experiment group are better than one of boys in control group, and also girls.

  • The object of our research is to design and to embody the learning system of numerical concept for the mathematic loaming disabilities. The existing system for the learning disabilities was a simple repeating practice system, repeating the same learning contents to obtain the skill, ignoring the learner's disability situation. This bears a problem that the interest and motivation in the learning media will reduce as the learning goes on. This loaming system offers the learning process of numerical concept by showing an animation file of a real life and offering a concrete mouse manipulating practice environment, so as to maintain the motivation of the learner, giving an instant compensation and feedback. If this system are used in directing the learning disabilities, it will help them to stay motivated and to create a positive teaming attitude by a variety level learning system, supporting suitable speed and learning contents for the learning disabilities individuals.

한 여고생이 겪는 수학 학습의 어려움에 대한 사례 연구

  • 본 사례 연구는 수학 교사로서 연구자가 학급에서 중간 정도의 학업 성적을 가지면서 특히 언어 영역이 상위의 학생이 수학 성적에서는 최하에 있는 수학 학습 부진을 보이는 한 여학생을 선정하여 매일 수학을 가르치면서 이 학생의 수학 학습의 부진 요인에 대한 해답을 찾고자 했다. 본 연구에서는 비구조화된 인터뷰, 관찰기록, 전화, 이메일, 부모와의 인터뷰이며, 객관적인 자료를 위해 수학 기본능력 검사, 수학 내신성적, 대학수학능력 모의고사, 진로탐색 검사 등의 자료를 수집하였다. 이렇게 수집된 모든 자료를 일기 형식의 연구 일지에 기록하여 이 학생의 변화에 대한 기록을 하였다. 본 연구에 따르면, 이 여학생은 낮은 지능과 잘못된 계열 선택, 기초학습 및 선수학습의 결손, 학교와 학급에 대한 부적응, 교사와 학생간의 부정적인 인간관계, 수학교과에 대한 불안감, 학습 실패 경험의 누적에 의한 자신감 상실, 학생의 능력 수준을 고려하지 않은 부모의 높은 기대치 등의 요인에 의해 수학 학습에서 어려움을 겪고 있는 것으로 나타났다.

The Effect of the Storytelling Teaching on the Mathematical Attitudes of the Underachieved Students (스토리텔링 수업이 수학학습부진학생의 수학적 태도에 미치는 영향 분석)

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze the effect of storytelling teaching on the mathematical attitudes of Mathematics underachieved third-grade middle school students. 5 students with lower than 20% of math grades were selected and they were provided 36 hours of the storytelling teaching program in 18 weeks. The participant students took the mathematical attitudes questionnaires both before and after the storytelling teaching classes. As a result of the study, the mean score of the before and after questionnaires was increased, and t-test also had statistically significant results. In particular, the various details of mathematical attitudes revealed the greatest positive change in 'the application of learning technology', followed by 'interest' and 'self-study'. Therefore, we found that the storytelling teaching program has a positive effect on the mathematical attitudes of underachieved students.

  • The study aims to figure phenomena and changes that underachievers in mathematics show in the process of learning a function. It is necessary to remind basic concepts once again in advance at a time of teaching underachievers in mathematics to check what they have difficulties in learning for further teaching later on. Five participating students said that teachers' detailed explanation was more helpful, and they found it difficult to learn tables, graphs and formulas at first, but as time progressed, they naturally accepted them. In this regard, it is necessary to use various expressions and means to teach underachievers in mathematics.

  • One of the object on math education is low-level students. To improve this problem and to instruct efficiently I developed "let's play figures" instruction and learning system. This system reconstructed diagram part of math into 5steps to achieve the goal of tailored education to fit student's learning level. Based on this, the game can be used as the teaching method to enhance the student's interest and self-studying ability and also this system has been developed for the education connected to home.

The effect of metacognitive activity using CAS calculator on high school first grade mathematics slow-learners' achievement of Algebra (CAS 계산기를 활용한 메타인지 활동이 고등학교 1학년 수학학습부진아의 대수학업성취도에 미치는 영향)

  • This paper observed the effect of CAS calculator usage while studying algebra on the achievement of low-achievement students. Participants were composed of 70 low-achievement tenth grade students from a high school located in a metropolitan city. That had never used a mathematics educational calculator before. Target participants were divided into two groups: an experiment group that studied activity papers with the aid of a CAS calculator, and a control group that studied the same activity papers using only paper-and-pencil. The content of the activity papers for the two groups was the same, but the structure differed. Content consisted of numbers and operations, equations and inequalities(character and expressions), and functions. Students in the experiment group exhibited matacognition learning using a CAS calculator. The two groups completed mathematics achievement tests both before and after the activity papers. Therefore, ANCOVA analysis results showed that compared to the pretest, results of the experiment group improved considerably more than the control group.
