  • This study aims to investigate the effect of early childhood teachers' mathematical attitude on their mathematics teaching efficacy and to prove the moderating role of pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) in mathematics, which we selected based upon previous literatures. To explore the effect of early childhood teachers' mathematical attitude on their mathematics teaching efficacy and the moderating role of PCK in mathematics between them, This study randomly sampled 500 early childhood teachers who work at child care centers and kindergartens in Seoul, Kyunggi province and Kangwon province and collected their responses by questionnaires. Mathematics teaching efficacy was measured with mathematics teaching efficacy scale for early childhood teachers developed by Luo (2000) and translated by Jung (2001a). Mathematical attitude was measured with Smith (2000)'s scale which we translated for this study. To measure the pedagogical content knowledge in mathematics, we revised Hong(2012)'s scale to be applicable for early childhood teachers. Direct effect of mathematical attitude on mathematics teaching efficacy and the moderating effect of PCK in mathematics were analyzed by multiple regression analysis using IBM SPSS 21.0. Study results demonstrated the significant direct effect of mathematical attitude on mathematics teaching efficacy. Also, the moderating effect of PCK in mathematics was also proved to be significant. That is, if the teacher has high level of pedagogical content knowledge in mathematics, the positive effect of mathematical attitude on mathematics teaching efficacy was even more enhanced. This results supports the current finding where PCK in mathematics functions as a moderating variable between mathematical attitude and mathematics teaching efficacy. Thus, our study is expected to provide relevant contents that should be covered during teacher education, which aims to improve early childhood teachers' mathematics teaching efficacy.

  • This study analyzed the 2009 revised curriculum 6th grade math geometric domain and developed virtual operation tool contents based RME theory. These materials were examine to find out how to effect on the spatial sense and mathematical attitudes by applying it to teach the 6th grade students. The results were as follows. First, it is more effective for improving spatial sense to study mathematics based RME theory with virtual operation tool contents than normal one. This means that mathematics study based RME theory with virtual operation contents overcomes the limitations of flat learning environment. And it is great educational and effective method for students to improve their spatial sense. Second, it is more effective for improving mathematical attitudes to study mathematics based RME theory with virtual operation tool contents than normal one. This means that Mathematics study based RME theory with virtual operation contents makes student more participate learning actively. It helps the students who have passive learning habits to have self-directed learning habits, ability to cooperation and communicate. The results of this study suggest that mathematics study based RME theory is very helpful for student to improve their spatial sense and have positive effect on self-concept in mathematics, attitudes toward mathematics and improving study habits in mathematical attitudes.

  • In this study, the objective of this study is to verify the effects between lecturer's capability, education program, education service, and physical educational environment factors, and university students' interest in and attitude toward mathematics. A survey was conducted on 228 male and female students in science and engineering majors attending universities in the Pusan metropolitan area, and empirical analysis was conducted using the SPSS 26.0 program. The research results are as follows. First, among the characteristics of college mathematics maker classes, instructor competency (β=.349, t=6.380, p<.001), educational program (β=.361, t=5.650, p<.001), and physical educational environment (β=.196, t=3.281, p<.01) had a significant positive (+) effect on college students' interest in mathematics. Second, the factors of interest (β=.349, t=6.380, p<.001) in college mathematics maker classes were found to have a significant positive (+) effect on college students' attitudes toward mathematics. Third, among the characteristics of college mathematics maker classes, instructor competency (β=.340, t=6.365, p<.001), educational program (β=.352, t=5.559, p<.001), physical educational environment (β=.226, t=3.537, p<.01) was found to have a significant positive (+) effect on college students' attitudes toward mathematics. Through the results of this study, it was concluded that when the level of education program and teaching ability of the university mathematics maker class are high and the physical educational environment is excellent, it can have a positive effect not only on the university student's attitude towards mathematics but ultimately on the attitude of mathematics.

  • The purpose of this study is to transform questions in the 7th curriculum to open-ended problems and exam students' attitude towards open-ended problems. Research questions in this thesis are as follows: First, to transform questions in the 7th curriculum to open-ended problems and apply to a class in the fourth grade D elementary school. Second, to find how students respond to learning mathematics with open-ended problems. As a result of this study, the following are identified. First, the students showed positive reactions towards learning mathematics with open-ended problems. Those experience with open-ended problems make student solve mathematics problems with interest and confidence. Second, both good and bad students in the math class show interest and concentration toward open-ended problem. But a few students show less interest towards those problems. Third, through discussion about problem-solving with open-ended problems, students take part in math class actively and show respect one another. Fourth, especially students show more interest and confidence towards the open-ended problems transformed from mathematics textbook and like the constructive open-ended problems.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of parental educational involvement and mathematical attitude perceived by students on math motivation and math anxiety. The results showed that parents' educational involvement had effect on students' motivation to learn mathematics and had a significant effect on mathematics anxiety. In addition, the parents 'mathematical attitude has a significant effect on the motivation of the students, and the higher the mathematical attitude of the parents, the lower the mathematics anxiety of the students but the higher the students' mathematics anxiety. This suggests that even if the parents are educated, the parents can influence their motivation to learn mathematics, rather the more the achievement pressure becomes, the higher the educational involvement. In addition, the parents' mathematical attitude is independent of the degree of educational involvement, and parents can expect to increase their motivation to learn mathematics by nurturing with positive and positive perceptions and attitudes. In order to do this, it is a time when parents' education for the recognition of parents' right mathematics courses and their interest in education and the role of education are positively required.

  • One of the essential factors for successful college mathematics class is to provide a strong motivation for learning to students. In this respect, this paper attempted to find out how the letter-writing assignment can change students' learning attitude and enhance their motivation for further mathematical investigation. The process is to have all students write up letters containing a summary of the major points covered during the semester, and to find out how valuable is the letter-writing assignment. The major finding of this research is that the letter-writing assignment makes a notable contribution to the desirable change of students' learning attitude. From this finding, we suggest that the letter-writing assignment be adopted by more math classes and expect that such expansion of the letter-writing assignment would have a positive influence on the students' learning attitude.

  • The purpose of this study is to plan and apply the problem posing program to each unit of elementary mathematics 5-Ga stage, and to make an analysis of their effects on mathematics learning achievements, attitude and interesting. In order to achieve these purposes, the following research problems were set up for the present study: First, we design problem posing program which can be applied to the actual instruction with analyzing the curriculum of mathematics on 5-Ga stage in the seventh national curriculum. Second, we analyze the effect of applying problem posing program on students' mathematics learning achievements. Third, we analyze the effect of applying problem posing program on students' mathematical attitude and interest. The results of this study are as follows: First, the problem posing program developed in this study was more affirmative effects for improving the students' mathematics learning achievements. Second, the problem posing program also had affirmative effects on students' attitude and interest on mathematics. Third, after applying the problem posing program turned out to have a statistical significant correlation between mathematics learning achievements and attitude, and mathematics learning achievements and interest.
