The purpose of this study is to evaluate the horizontal shear strength on the interface between PC and cast-in-place concrete for PC composite beams. Six specimens were tested to examine the structural performance of the horizontal interface with different surface condition and stirrup detailing. Except for SF-291B specimen failed in flexural compression, strengths and deformation capacities of five specimens were determined by horizontal shear failure. Horizontal shear strengths by composite horizontal shear or shear friction in current codes could be used to predict the horizontal shear capacity of the interface for specimens. Also detailing for stirrup by PCI design provision could be used to accomplish the composite action in the interface.
Half-P.C. slab system is the composite structural system which utilizes precast concrete for lower portion and cast in situ concrete for upper portion slab. When the composite slab using Half P.C. slab is deformed by flexural moment, horizontal shear happened at the interface between Half P.C. slab and topping concrete. To resist horizontal shear strength a scratch method has tried. To determine ultimate interface shear strength, shear stress, and shear coefficient, high and normal strength concrete are used for topping concrete. Major variables are compressive strength of topping concrete with or without shear reinforcement, quantitative roughness of the P.C. :surface and tie or untie of the stud with welded deformed wire fabric in the P.C. member. The Icross sectional area on joints is 3,200 $cm^2$ in all specimens. Test results showed that shear stress increased, as the depth of the quantitative roughness increased. The horizontal shear strength could be resisted with safe by the quantitative roughness without shear tie. A shear coefficient determinant equation is proposed such that K = 0.025918 + 0.0068894$\cdot$R – 0.000182354${\cdot}R^2$
Large studs were suggested not only for the design of steel-concrete composite bridges with simplified sections but also for the shear connection in precast decks requiring uniform distribution of shear pockets. Based on the push-out test results on studs with diameters of more than 25 mm, partial composite beams with 40%-degree shear connection were fabricated, and static tests were performed. The ultimate strength and horizontal shear load redistribution of partial composite beams, which have parameters of stud shank diameters and distribution, were evaluated, and group failure in the shear span was observed. Since the flexural strength of composite beams are dependent on the strength of their shear connection, the strength of the stud connection was estimated and it showed considerably higher shear strength. From the load-slip curves, the sufficient ductility and load redistribution of large studs were confirmed. Uniformly distributed large studs can provide proper ultimate behavior of composite beams.
Generally, in a steel-concrete composite gilder, the shear connector which was constructed between concrete deck and steel girder should have enough stiffness to behave as one body, because the conformity between plate and concrete deck is influences by the stiffness and spacing of the shear connectors. If the stiffness of shear connectors are insufficient, slip would happen at the contact surface. Partial interaction is the case that takes account of slips. In this paper, an easy method is presented to evaluate the stiffness or spacing of the shear connector according to the degree of imperfection without difficult calculations for a composite gilder with partial interaction. Also, the horizontal shearing force applied to the shear connector and the longitudinal axial force, which is occurs at contact surface between concrete deck and steel girder, have been presented in a simple influence line that is various to the parameters of sectional properties, degree of imperfection and applied load points. Furthermore, through the case study, it determined the relationships between the degree of imperfection and the follows 1) spring constants 2) axial force and horizontal shearing force 3) stress and neutral axis by using the partial differential equation based on Newmark's Partial Interaction Theory.
Composite action can be achieved by providing shear connectors between the steel top flange and concrete topping. Composite sections are stiffer than the sum of the individual stiffness of slab and beam. They can therefore carry heavier loads or similar loads with appreciably smaller deflection. They are also less prone to transient vibration. In this study, T-type Steel Composite beam (TSC-beam) was developed and tested. The test results of TSC beam were compared with the theoretical results based on composite actions.

Under earthquake loads, the columns on the lower stories carry large axial forces and horizontal forces as the earthquake loads are acting horizontally and vertically on the building. To distribute the energy entered into the building under earthquakes according to the plastic deformation of the members, it is safer and more economic to persuade plastic hinge to occur in the beams rather than on the columns. However, it is unavoidable to have plastic hinge occurring on the columns when it is applied on both of the main axes of the building, which results in high shear force on the column end, and reinforced concrete column may result in sudden brittle failure due to bending moment and shear force. To increase restriction of the reinforced concrete column on the horizontal forces, this study uses repetitive loading experiments with different amount of shear reinforcement, and analyzes and compares the structural safety and behaviour of the reinforced test materials.

Currently, composite construction of prestressed Precast Concrete (PC) and Cast-In-Place (CIP) concrete with different concrete strengths are frequently used in the modular construction. However, current design codes do not clearly define shear design methods for such composite beams. In this present study, simply supported prestressed PC-CIP composite beams without vertical shear reinforcement or only with horizontal shear reinforcement were tested to evaluate the effect of prestressing on the shear strength and the shear design method for such composite members. The test variables were the area ratio of PC and CIP concretes, prestressing force, shear span-to-depth ratio, and shear reinforcement ratio. The results showed that the shear strength was increased by the increase of prestressing force and prestressed PC area, and the decrease of shear span-to-depth ratio.

This research purposed to study a structural effect on curtailment of upper shear wall in frame-shear wall structures, using MIDAS-Gen. In this study, the analysis variables were the story number of curtailment of upper shear wall, change of column section in every 2 stories and change of shear wall thickness in every 2 stories. In order to analyse a structural effect on curtailment of upper shear wall in frame-shear wall structures, we studied the distribution of shear force and overturning moment according to curtailment of shear wall, the inflection point of shear wall from shear force/overturning moment and the lateral stiffness. The results of study proposed the quantitative influence that the curtailment of upper shear wall in frame-shear wall structures had on the structural performance such as lateral stiffness. Furthermore, it is verified that the results of study can be very helpful in catching the materials on the structure design for a reasonable frame-shear wall system.

Composite action is generally achieved by providing shear connections between steel top flange and concrete topping. Composite sections have greater stiffness than the summation of the individual stiffness of slab and beam. Therefore, they can carry larger loads or similar loads with appreciably smaller deflection and are less prone to transient vibration. T-type Steel Composite beam (TSC-beam) was developed to increase these advantages. Ten specimens were tested for this study. During the experiment, crack pattern and deflection of beam were investigated. The examined results of TSC beam system were compared with results from the typical composite beam and RC beam.

In this paper, a nonlinear structural analysis for the composite structure composed of the spent nuclear fuel disposal canister and the 50㎝ thick bentonite buffer is carried out to predict the collapse of the canister while the horizontal symmetric sudden rock movement of 10㎝ is applied on the composite structure. This sudden rock movement is anticipated by the earthquake etc. at a deep underground. Elastoplastic material model is adopted. Drucket-Prager yield criterion is used for the material yield prediction of the bentonite buffer and von-Mises yield criterion is used for the material yield prediction of the canister(cast iron, copper). Analysis results show that even though very large deformations occur beyond the yield point in the bentonite buffet, the canister structure still endures elastic small strains and stresses below the yield strength. Hence, the 50㎝ thick bentonite buffet can protect the canister safely against the 10㎝ sudden rock movement by earthquake etc.. Analysis results also show that bending deformations occur in the canister structure due to the shear deformation of the bentonite buffer.
