A CDR using 1/4-rate Clock based on Dual-Interpolator (1/4-rate 클록을 이용한 이중 보간 방식 기반의 CDR)

  • In this paper, an efficient proposed CDR(Clock and Data Recovery Circuits) using 1/4-rate clock based on dual-interpolator is proposed. The CDR is aimed to overcome problems that using multi-phase clock to decrease the clock generator frequency causes side effects such as the increased power dissipation and hardware complexity, especially when the number of channels is high. To solve these problems, each recovery part generates needed additional clocks using only inverters, but not flip-flops while maintaining the number of clocks supplied from a clock generator the same as 1/2-rate clock method. Thus, the reduction of a clock generator frequency using 1/4-rate clocking helps relax the speed limitation and power dissipation when higher data rate transfer is demanded.

A 1.485 Gbps Wireless Video Signal Transmission System at 240 GHz (240 GHz, 1.485 Gbps 비디오신호 무선 전송 시스템)

  • In this paper, a 1.485 Gbps video signal transmission system using the carrier frequency of 240 GHz band was designed and simulated. The sub-harmonic mixer based on Schottky barrier diode was simulated in the transmitter and receiver. Both of heterodyne and direct detection receivers were simulated for each performance analysis. The ASK modulation was used in the transmitter and the envelop detection method was used in the receiver. The transmitter simulation results showed that the RF output power was -11.4 dBm($73{\mu}W$), when the IF input power was -3 dBm(0.5 mW) at the LO power of 7 dBm(5 mW) in sub-harmonic mixer, which corresponds to SSB(Single Side Band) conversion loss of 8.4 dB. This value is similar to the conversion loss of 8.0 dB(SSB) of VDI's commercial model WR3.4SHM(220~325 GHz) at 240 GHz. The combined transmitter and receiver simulation results showed that the recovered signal waveforms were in good agreement to the transmitted 1.485 Gbps NRZ signal.

Subspace Method Based Preceding for Spatial Multiplexing with Limited Feedback (제한된 피드백 정보를 사용하는 공간 다중화를 위한 부 공간 방식 기반 Precoding 기법)

  • In this paper, for spatial multiplexing with limited feedback, we propose subspace method based preceding in which the active bases are selected at the receiver from a finite number of basis sets Down at both receiving and transmitting ends, conveyed to the transmitter using limited feedback, and assembled into a preceding matrix at the transmitter. The selected bases are conveyed to the transmitter using feedback information on both the index of the selected basis set, which defines the most appropriate set of coordinates for describing a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel, and the principal bases maximizing the capacity in the selected basis set. We show that the proposed subspace method based preceding provides a capacity similar to that of the closed-loop MIMO even with limited feedback.

A Cost-Effective WDM-PON Architecture for Dynamic Resource Provision (자원의 동적 능력 향상을 위한 경제적인 WDM-PON 구조)

  • WDM-PON has been receiving much attention as a key technology to FTTH. As the cost of WDM-PON heavily depends on the number of transceivers implemented at ONU, one of its shortcomings comes from the fixed provision of wavelength resource, which is tightly coupled with costly transceivers. In this paper, we propose a cost-effective WDM-PON architecture for dynamic resource provision. The proposed architecture is based on hierarchical grouping of multiple ONUs into a logical group and hierarchical sharing the resource. For high utilization of dynamic resource, the dynamic resource allocation algorithm is also proposed. We analyze the system efficiency in term of dynamism of system resource and system cost. We also verify that the proposed resource allocation algorithm achieves a high dynamism on resource allocation, and at the same time maintains the fairness between ONUs.

Structure of Dual Polarized System for Wireless Communication (무선 통신을 위한 이중 편파 시스템 구조)

  • In this paper, we propose the structure of a dual polarized system for a wireless communication. The proposed dual polarized antenna is formed by one vertical antenna and two horizontal antennas that are orthogonal to each other. Vertical and horizontal polarized antennas transmit different signals, but two orthogonal horizontal polarized antennas transmit the same data signals. So, the signals of the proposed dual polarized system construct two dual-polarization planes. And, only one dual-polarization plane with a large signal power is selected at the side of a receiver. The simulation results show that the proposed dual polarized system could obtain a higher capacity compared to an ordinary $2{\times}2$ MIMO (Multi-input Multi-output) system.

  • Microwave Otters are essential device in modem wireless systems. A compact dimension BPF(Band-pass Filter) for IEEE 802.11a WLAN service is realized using LTCC multi-layer process. To extrude 2-stage band-pass equivalent circuit, band-pass and J-inverter transform applied to Chebyshev low-pass prototype filter. Because parallel L-C resonator is complicate and hard to control the inductor characteristics in high frequency, the shorted $\lambda/4$ stripline is selected for the resonator structure. The passive element is located in the different layers connected by conventional via structure and isolated by inner GND. The dimension of fabricated stacked band-pass filter which is composed of six layers, is $2.51\times2.27\times1.02\;mm^3$. The measured filter characteristics show the insertion loss of -2.25 dB, half-power bandwidth of 220 MHz, attenuation at 5.7 GHz of -32.25 dB and group delay of 0.9 ns at 5.25 GHz.

  • In this paper, A real-time channel module which can apply the wireless propagation channel was developed using USRP and Lab-VIEW. When the proposed channel module is used in conjunction with the implemented HW(hardware) simulators for cognitive radio and frequency interference analysis and so on, it can increase the reliability about wireless propagation environments. In addition, the proposed module overcomes the limit of existing HW simulator that data transfer rate is limitative in communication system through the design of the inner parts. Along with this, it is possible to apply channel parameters necessary to estimate the easier communication performance. Also, this has the advantage that it can be flexibly applied in implementing the communication channel with the upcoming new scenarios. The proposed module can estimate the communication performance via constellation and BER using the implemented module.

Design of a 40 GHz CMOS Phase-Locked Loop Frequency Synthesizer Using Wide-Band Injection-Locked Frequency Divider (광대역 주입동기식 주파수 분주기 기반 40 GHz CMOS PLL 주파수 합성기 설계)

  • This paper presents design of a 40 GHz CMOS PLL frequency synthesizer for a 60 GHz sliding-IF RF transceiver. For stable locking over a wide bandwith for a injection-locked frequency divider, an inductive-peaking technique is employed so that it ensures the PLL can safely lock across the very wide tuning range of the VCO. Also, Injection-locked type LC-buffer with low-phase noise and low-power consumption is added in between the VCO and ILFD so that it can block any undesirable interaction and performance degradation between VCO and ILFD. The PLL is designed in 65 nm CMOS precess. It covers from 37.9 to 45.3 GHz of the output frequency. and its power consumption is 74 mA from 1.2 V power supply.

  • Most of present ultrasonic distance measurement technologies are based on the measurement of the TOF (: Time of Flight), the elapsed time during which the ultrasonic wave travels from its transmitter to receiver, to evaluate the distance the wave travels during that time. In this case, high distance measurement accuracy requires an accurate measurement of TOF. In order to acquire an accurate TOF, this paper proposes a method that produces the TOF by using a mathematical model of the received signal obtained from a mathematical model of ultrasonic transducer. The proposed method estimates the arrival time of the received signal retrospectively by comparing its wave form obtained after triggering point with its mathematical model in the sense of least-square. Experimental result shows that the effect of variation of triggering point can be decreased by implementing the proposed method.

Blind Channel Estimation through Clustering in Backscatter Communication Systems (후방산란 통신시스템에서 군집화를 통한 블라인드 채널 추정)

  • Ambient backscatter communication has a drawback in which the transmission power is limited because the data is transmitted using the ambient RF signal. In order to improve transmission efficiency between transceiver, a channel estimator capable of estimating channel state at a receiver is needed. In this paper, we consider the K-means algorithm to improve the performance of the channel estimator based on EM algorithm. The simulation uses MSE as a performance parameter to verify the performance of the proposed channel estimator. The initial value setting through K-means shows improved performance compared to the channel estimation method using the general EM algorithm.
