The Effect of Workers's Burnout Resilience on Burnout in Community Welfare Centers for the Elderly (소진탄력성이 노인복지관종사자들의 소진에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest some implications for prevention and manage burnout of workers in community welfare centers for the elderly. To conduct this purpose, this study examine how much effect burnout risk, burnout resilience and burnout are they have, it will explain whether resilience works to mediate between burnout risk and burnout. The result of analysis on the study as follow: 1) burnout risk has positive(+) effects on burnout 2) burnout risk has negative(-) effects on burnout resilience 3) burnout resilience has negative (-) effects on burnout. These results were based on some suggestions.

  • The aim of the present study was to determine whether secondary traumatic stress and burnout of CPS workers in Korea differ, being significantly affected by different variables of each own. A two-way MANCOVA was conducted to determine the effect of trauma exposure and work-condition satisfaction on secondary traumatic stress(intrusion and avoidance) and burnout(emotional deprivation, depersonalization, personal achievement) while controlling for gender, age, and personal trauma history. Exposure to clients' traumatic material did not affect secondary traumatic stress and burnout either. Rather, it was found that both of secondary traumatic stress and burnout was significantly affected by the same independent variables(level of exposure to being threatened by violent abusers of victims and the level of workers' satisfaction of work conditions in workplace). Therefore, it was difficult to address that secondary traumatic stress and burnout have a completely different construct.

The Relationships Among Job Burnout, Organizational Citizenship Behavior, Work Engagement, and Social Capital via Smartphone use in The Navy Soldiers on Duty: A Moderated Mediation Model (해군 병사들의 직무소진과 조직시민행동의 관계: 직무열의와 스마트폰을 통한 사회적 자본의 조절된 매개효과)

  • This study attempted to verify the relationship between job burnout and organizational citizenship behavior among South Korean soldiers in the Navy force by applying the Job Demands-Resource Model and Conservation of Resource Theory, and the moderated mediating effect of social capital through the work engagement and smartphone use. The mediating effect of work engagement and the moderating effect of social capital via smartphone use were examined in the relation between job burnout and organizational citizenship behavior. We combine the mediation effect model and the moderation effect model and tested the moderated mediation effect. To perform this study, the survey was conducted on the navy soldier on duty, and total of 324 data were analyzed. The results of this study were as follows: the complete mediation effect of work engagement in the relation of job burnout and organizational citizenship behavior was verified, social capital via smartphone use moderated the relation between job burnout and work engagement, and the moderated mediation effect of social capital via smartphone use in the relation between job burnout and organizational citizenship behavior through work engagement was identified. Based on the results, implications, limitations, and future research directions of the current study were discussed.

  • Perceptions of organizational politics(POPs) have stress-based effect as job demand and lead to employee's negative attitudes and behaviors. According to job demand resource model, burnout develops when high job demand deplete employee's resources, which lead employees to low levels of motivation and high levels of cynicism and frustration. Currently, in studying the relationship between POPs and burnout there is a lack of researches on certain settings and conditions. The present study examined a model in which relationship between POPs and burnout was mediated by psychological need satisfaction. And also, this study tested moderating role of psychological capital between POPs and need satisfaction. A total of 220 employees in telco and electronic manufacturing company in South Korea participated in this study. The result of this study showed that need satisfaction works as mediating variable between POPs and burnout and psychological capital had moderating effect between POPs and need satisfaction. This study proposes a new framework of POPs by examining linking mechanism of need satisfaction and psychological capital. The results of this study provide practical insight to HR practitioners and business leaders.

Mediating Effect of Self-Soothing Ability in Relationship of Youth Counselors' Job Environment Stress and Psychological Burnout (자기위로능력이 청소년상담사의 직무환경 스트레스와 심리적 소진의 관계에 미치는 매개 효과)

  • This study was carried out to analyze the mediating effect of self-soothing ability in the relationship of job environment stress and psychological burnout of youth counselors. To achieve the study purpose, a survey was executed on 150 counselors who gathered for a academic meeting held at Korea National University of Education with the theme of youth counseling on May 5, 2015. The participants included nation-wide counselors working at public agencies, schools, university and colleges, and private counseling offices. Analysis was executed for 113 questionnaires found valid with SPSS v.20, and study findings are as follows: first, career and working conditions youth counselors showed no difference in job environment stress between groups; second, 'lack of challenge' and 'role ambiguity' were found to affect psychological burnout; third, 'resilience' and 'self-disclosure' were found to affect psychological burnout; fourth, self-soothing ability was shown to have a mediating effect in the relationship between job environment stress and psychological burnout of youth counselors. This result will contribute to helping develop programs to cope with stress faced by both experienced youth counselors and counselors in general.

The Effects of the Negative Affectivity of Emotional Laborers on Their Emotional Exhaustion: Situational Characteristics Moderating the Mediation Effect of Emotion Regulation (감정노동자들의 부정적 정서가 정서소진에 미치는 영향: 정서조절의 매개효과를 조절하는 상황 요인 검증)

  • The regulation of emotion is known to mediate the relationship between emotion-relevant differences in individuals and their life outcomes. This study attempted to include a situational factor in addition to the mediation model and investigated whether this conditional component changed the patterns of indirect effects. The researchers recruited 180 emotional laborers working in diverse domains and used a questionnaire to ascertain their negative affectivity, cognitive reappraisal, emotional exhaustion, and the intensity of negative comments they usually received from customers. The results of the conditional indirect effect analysis revealed the positive indirect influence of negative affectivity on emotional exhaustion through cognitive reappraisal when emotional labors receive highly negative comments from customers (high intensity of the situation). Similarly, negative indirect effects were found when emotional labors receive slightly negative comments from customers (low intensity of the situation). The outcomes of this study suggest that cognitive reappraisal can mediate to decrease emotional exhaustion in contexts that arouse more intensive negative emotions; it can also mediate to increase emotional exhaustion in contexts that arouse less intensive negative emotions. The implications of this study include the importance of integrating individual differences with situational factors. The study also provides information about the distinctiveness of groups of emotional laborers.

The Experience of Cancer Survivor's Return to Everyday Life (암 생존자의 일상생활 복귀 경험)

  • This study was undertaken to identify ways that enable a successful comeback to everyday life and improvement in the quality of life, by understanding the experiences of cancer survivors in returning to everyday life. Totally, 19 people diagnosed with complete cure after 5 years of cancer treatment, were recruited for the study. Data was collected through in-depth interviews from January 18 to February 25, 2017. One-time interviews took 90 to 120 minutes, and data analysis was achieved by applying the grounded theory. The central phenomenon of 'reality that cannot be escaped' and 'uncertain reality that cannot know tomorrow' was attributed to the causal conditions 'hard reality', 'physical exhaustion', 'psychological exhaustion' and 'economic exhaustion'. Depending on context conditions such as 'lack of family support', 'shift to a vulnerable working class', 'insufficient support system', 'hope for the societal support system', 'daunted gender', 'prejudice against cancer/cancer patients', 'information on life after rare full healing'. The strategy for a successful return was influenced by intervention conditions such as 'robust family fence' and 'effective cancer insurance', which resulted in 'building a new life' or 'enduring'. We conclude that for a successful return to daily lives, cancer survivors require comprehensive information, health and social-welfare interventions.

A Study on the Mitigation of Burnout and Knowledge Hoarding: Focusing on the Knowledge Sharing Culture and Person Organization Fit (조직 구성원의 직무소진 및 지식축적 완화에 대한 연구: 지식공유 문화와 개인조직 적합성을 중심으로)

  • As knowledge management is recognized as a core value of organizations, organizations are increasing their investment in policies and technologies for knowledge management. However, since SMEs have relatively few resources to support knowledge sharing, which is the core of knowledge management, there is a possibility that continuous knowledge management will be difficult. This study suggests the negative motivation(job burnout) on the knowledge hoarding of SME employees and the conditions to be improved at the organizational level (shared goal, knowledge sharing culture, and person-organization fit). In this study, a hypothesis was presented through a study related to transaction theory to explain the stress in the relationship between the organization and the individual. This study collected samples through a questionnaire targeting workers of SMEs with knowledge management policies. In addition, the hypothesis was verified by performing structural equation modeling. As a result of the study, shared goal and knowledge sharing culture reduced knowledge hoarding through mitigating job burnout. In particular, person-organization fit moderated the relationship between shared goal, knowledge sharing culture, and job burnout. The study presents academic and practical implications in terms of suggesting factors to mitigate the knowledge hoarding of employees for continuous knowledge management of SMEs.

Trace Measurement of Ruthenium by Adsorptive Stripping Voltammetry (벗김 전압전류법에 의한 루테늄의 미량 측정)

  • In the presence of optimum amounts of hydroxylamine, trace ruthenium(III) can be conveniently determined in acidic (boric) media by coupling catalytic hydrogen processes with adsorptive accumulation of the catalyst, using differential pulse voltammetry. Cyclic voltammetry was used to characterize the redox and interfacial processes. Optimal experimental conditions were found to be a stirred borate (0.015 M, pH 2.5) solution containing 0.55 M hydroxylamine, a preconcentration potential of - 0.70 V, and a scan rate of 5 mV/s. With a 7 min accumulation period the detection limit was 3${\times}$10-10 M. The possible interferences by other platinum group metals are investigated.
