  • This study was done to classify the proteins involved in the specific phosphorylation using the rat peripheral blood lymphocytes (rPBL) stimulated with mitogens, phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) and concanavalin A (Con A). The lymphocytes were incubated with $^{32}P-orthophosphate$ before PMA or Con A stimulation. The migration patterns of the phosphorylated proteins of mitogen-treated rPBL in two dimensional electrophoretic fields were analyzed after autoradiography. The stimulation of the lymphocytes with PMA and Con A increased the phosphorylation of thirteen protein fractions. The phosphorylation intensities of the protein spots differ to the treatments of the cells with specific kinase inhibitors, H-7 and W-7. These protein fractions were grouped into 3 classes, namely, PKC-mediated, CaM kinase-mediated, and other kinase mediated proteins. The effect of the duration of the stimulation on the phosphorylated behaviors occurred concurrently, not sequentially, although each individual protein fraction had a different time for the peak phosphorylation during the stimulation period upto 30 minutes. The phosphoproteins found in the cytosolic soluble fraction were phosphorylated prior to those in the pellet, whose phosphorylations were sustained at a high level for over 10 minutes. The above results suggest that the early events in lymphocyte activation involve 3 different sets of proteins which are phosphorylated by CaM kinase, PKC and other kinases, and those kinases do not work sequentially, but rather, independently or cooperatively.

  • Aside from enriching spirituality, religiously-themed museums play a crucial role in resolving conflicts among the nations peripherally or various cultural groups in a broad sense. Relatively speaking, Korea has achieved a peaceful multi-religious society, yet the 2019 pandemic caused certain religious conflicts to surface or perhaps resurface. Since the 2000, due to the increasing number of migrants, there has been increasing awareness of the need to accommodating even greater levels of religious diversity. Accordingly, this study aims to apprehend various educational programs and exhibitions that have been developed by St. Mungo's Museum of Religious Life and Art, the State Museum of the History of Religion, and the Museum of World Religions in multi-ethnic societies such as the UK, Russia, and Taiwan. Therein, it will be determined how these museums contribute to mutual understanding and interaction and this research will suggest the development of a religiously-themed museum capable of resolving a number of social conflicts and enriching the diversity of its nation.

  • Vinyl acetate usually used in PVA resin preparation was converted to PVAc by bulk polymerization using AIBN as a initiator and PVA was synthesized by changing the concentration of NaOH added for saponification subsequently. As a result of estimating molecular weight using GPC, molecular weight increased as the NaOH concentration increased to 2.5 N, 5.0 N, 7.5 N and 10.0 N and polydispersity had similar values of 2.1~2.3, however, showed slightly decreasing tendency. In addition, PVA saponificated by 10.0 N-NaOH showed high syndiotacticity in observation of tacticity using NMR spectroscopy. From this fact, the degree of tacticity was predicted to be high and it was in good agreement with the tendency of polydispersity by GPC. Also, from the result of FT-IR spectroscopy, it might be known that hydrolysis was more promoted in the PVA with 10.0 N-NaOH than other NaOH concentration. Intrinsic viscosity measured using Ubbelohde viscometer, which increased as the concentration of NaOH added for saponification increased. The change of shear strength with the change of shear rate was investigated using Brookfield viscometer, in consequence, viscosity of PVA synthesized decreased as shear rate increased. PVA solution confirmed to show the shear thining behavior by Casson plot and PVA with 10.0 N-NaOH had the largest yield value. DSC measurement was performed to know the thermal properties of PVA. Tp had nearly constant value of 214$^{\circ}C$ in all cases except for adding 2.5 N-NaOH and $\Delta$H was increased as the concentration of NaOH increased. From this properties, it was concluded that the degree of hydrogen bonding was proportional to the added concentration of NaOH and the increase of the degree of hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interaction could affect the rheological and thermal properties of title compound.

  • This study aims to examine the relation between opinion perception and opinion expression by issue types by analyzing online poll results and respective bulletin boards. To find out how opinion poll results affect the public opinion perception cues and opinion expression through the internet, the study applied a method of content analysis to the online contents provided by Naver.com, one of the most popular portal sites in Korea. A total of four issue types, along with 2,250 messages were chosen for analysis. The study results revealed that internet users perceived opinion atmosphere through the poll results and expressed their opinions depending on the issue types. In case of an issue where majority views are manifested as online poll results, users tended to follow that majority views by retaining their initial opinion. Majority opinion by the poll results held a dominant position in bulletin board. The results partially support Noelle-Neuman(1994)'s spiral of silence theory in the context of computer-mediated communication contrary to the belief that anonymity in the cyberspace tends to encourage participation of minority opinion group. According to the findings, people when they perceive their opinion as that of minority are discouraged to express their views even when they are online.

  • It has been said that Gwangjudream, nevertheless a free press, plays a role as a local press that it should be, in a situation that other local papers do not. This study aims to reveal the forces that influence the article production of Gwangjudream, and to examine the interrelations between them, through using the methods of participant observations and depth interviews. In this course, it is eventually purpose of providing more deep understandings on the present circumstances and problems of the local papers and having a chance to concern the concrete ways to enhance them. This study results in revealing the five forces that primarily influence the article production of Gwangjudream: 1) as a historical force, keeping the spirit of the first publication that look forward to playing a role as a local press that it sound be, 2) as an individual force, the habitus of its members that is critical of mainstream society and culture, 3) as an organizational force, non-hierarchical culture and the independence of the editorial rights, 4) as a habitual force, the deny of beat system, 5) as an economical force, the power of sponsors, financial poorness, and the competition for attracting subscribers. While the historical force and the individual force play a role as fundamental circumstances and the organizational force and the habitual force as practical circumstances for producing articles, they encourage to emerge the characteristics of the articles that are related to citizens' everyday life and reflect locality, and criticize and keep an eye on government and other public offices. However, the economical force provides the circumstances that weaken the characteristics of Gwangjudream. The results of this study question the perspective to overly regard it as coming from their economical weakness that the local newspaper do not play a role as a local press that it should be.

  • Probiotic microorganisms are thought to provide health benefits when consumed. In 2001, the World Health Organization defined probiotics as "live microorganisms which confer a health benefit on the host, when administered in adequate amounts." Three methods for screening potential probiotics have currently widely available. (1) In vitro assays of potential probiotics are preferred because of their simplicity and low cost. (2) The use of in vivo approaches for exploring various potential probiotics reflects the enormous diversity in biological models with various complex mechanisms. (3) Potential probiotics have been analyzed using several genetic and omics technologies to identify gene expression or protein production patterns under various conditions. However, there is no ideal procedure for selecting potential probiotics than testing cadidate strains on the target population. Hence, in this review, we provide an overview of the different methodologies used to identify new probiotic strains. Furthermore, we describe futre perspectives for the use of in vitro, in vivo and omics in probiotic research.

  • The purpose of the study is to explore the experiences and meaning of the AP (Advanced Placement) at the specialized school for the highly gifted through the in-depth interview with 39 college students who had graduated from the specialized schools with the AP experiences. It is expected that the AP will be expanded to the students at the Science High Schools from the year of 2015, however, there has been no study to examine the realities of the AP in-depth especially through the voices of the AP participants. Students have taken 8 required and/or selective courses as AP in average. Students usually start to take AP from the second year of the specialized school for the highly gifted, but some start from the first year through the placement test. Numbers of available AP courses vary by subjects, but relatively more courses open in the areas of math and physics. Students' opinions regarding the AP were quite positive. Specifically, the high quality of the AP class and energetic interaction between student and teacher compared to the college classes were preferred by the students. However, it was controversial whether C+ is enough for the pass condition of the AP. Students were using the shortened time by AP in diverse ways, such as early graduation, double majors, exchange students, individual researches, and so on. Most of all, they tried to search for their career interests through the AP experiences. In closing, the present study provides some advices and future directions for the better AP management, including the improvement of administrative system between schools for the gifted and the universities, and the expansion of the number of university which approves the AP system.
