Power Efficient Cell Searching Algorithm to Support Mobility in Portable Digital Broadcasting Networks (휴대용 디지털 방송망에서의 이동성지원을 위한 전력 효율적인 셀 탐색 기법)

  • DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting for Handhold) is a new standard, currently being developed for a portable digital broadcasting, which enhance the multimedia broadcasting service in the Euroapean standard DVB-T (DVB-Terrestrial). Seamless mobility and power saving are essential requirements in the DVB-H system. To support seamless mobility, DVB-H system should provides seamless handover for mobile stations in the MFN (multi frequency network). For seamless handover, the receiver should monitor neighboring cells and it increases the power consumption. And so, power efficient sell searching algorithm for seamless handover is required. In this paper, we propose hypothesis feeling based handover algorithm to enhance the power efficiency by using the fast cell searching, and analyze the performance of handover schemes through the numerical evaluation and simulation.

  • In this paper, a new motion estimation algorithm with low-computational complexity is proposed to improve the performance of H.264/AVC. The proposed architecture uses the directions of the median motion vector which is computed by the motion vectors of the three neighbor macroblocks in Integer Motion Estimation. By using the directions of the vector, the proposed architecture has a single computational level instead of multi-computational levels in Integer Motion Estimation. The proposed motion estimation is synthesized using the TSMC 0.18um standard cell library. The synthesis result shows that the gate count is about 217.92K at 166MHz and it was improved about 69% compared with previous one.

  • Searching distributed resource efficiently is very important in distributed computing, cloud computing environment. Distributed resource searching may have system overheads and take much time in proportion to the searching number, because distributed resource searching has to circuit many peers for searching information. The open-source community project JXTA defines an open set of standard protocols for ad hoc, pervasive, peer-to-peer computing as a common platform for developing a wide variety of decentralized network applications. In this paper, we proposed peer search algorithm based on JXTA-Sim. original JXTA peer searching algorithm selected a loosely-consistent DHT. Our Lookup algorithm decreases message number of WALK_LOOKUP and reduce the network system overload, and we make a result of same performance both original algorithm and our proposed algorithm.

  • A data stream is a massive unbounded sequence of data elements continuously generated at a rapid rate. Due to this reason, memory usage for data stream analysis should be confined finitely although new data elements are continuously generated in a data stream. To satisfy this requirement, data stream processing sacrifices the correctness of its analysis result by allowing some errors. The old distribution statistics are diminished by a predefined decay rate as time goes by, so that the effect of the obsolete information on the current result of clustering can be eliminated without maintaining any data element physically. This paper proposes a grid based clustering algorithm for a data stream. Given a set of initial grid cells, the dense range of a grid cell is recursively partitioned into a smaller cell based on the distribution statistics of data elements by a top down manner until the smallest cell, called a unit cell, is identified. Since only the distribution statistics of data elements are maintained by dynamically partitioned grid cells, the clusters of a data stream can be effectively found without maintaining the data elements physically. Furthermore, the memory usage of the proposed algorithm is adjusted adaptively to the size of confined memory space by flexibly resizing the size of a unit cell. As a result, the confined memory space can be fully utilized to generate the result of clustering as accurately as possible. The proposed algorithm is analyzed by a series of experiments to identify its various characteristics

  • An adaptive non-uniform quantization scheme is proposed for soft-decision error correction in NAND flash memory. Even though the conventional maximizing mutual information (MMI) quantizer shows the optimal post-FEC (forward error correction) bit error rate (BER) performance, this quantization scheme demands heavy computational overheads due to the exhaustive search to find the optimal parameter values. The proposed quantization scheme has a simple structure that is constructed by only six parameters, and the optimal values of them are found by maximizing the mutual information between the input and the output symbols. It is demonstrated that the proposed quantization scheme improves the BER performance of soft-decision decoding with only small computational overheads.

  • Determining the position and velocity of mobiles is an important issue for efficient handoff and channel allocation in microcell structure. Our early work proposes a technique for estimating the mobile location in the microcellular architecture. This process is based on the three step position estimation which determines the mobile position by gradually reducing the area of the mobile position. Using three step method, the estimator first estimates the locating sector in the sector estimation step, then estimates the locating zone in the zone estimation step, and then finally estimates the locating block in the block estimate step. But this scheme is prone to errors when the mobile is located in the boundary of sectors or tracks. In this paper we propose the enhanced scheme to reduce the estimation error.

  • 대용량 데이터를 분석하기 위한 맵리듀스 기반 k-NN 조인 질의처리 알고리즘은 최근 데이터 마이닝 및 분석을 기반으로 하는 응용 분야에서 매우 중요하게 활용되고 있다. 그러나, 대표적인 연구인 보로노이 기반 k-NN 조인 질의처리 알고리즘은 보로노이 인덱스 구축 비용이 매우 크기 때문에 대용량 데이터에 적합하지 못하다. 아울러 보로노이 셀 정보를 저장하기 위해 사용하는 R-트리는 맵리듀스 환경의 분산 병렬 처리에 적합하지 않다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 새로운 그리드 인덱스 기반의 k-NN 조인 질의 처리 알고리즘을 제안한다. 첫째, 높은 인덱스 구축 비용 문제를 해결하기 위해, 데이터 분포를 고려한 동적 그리드 인덱스 생성 기법을 제안한다. 둘째, 맵리듀스 환경에서 효율적으로 k-NN 조인 질의를 수행하기 위해, 인접셀 정보를 시그니처로 활용하는 후보영역 탐색 및 필터링 알고리즘을 제안한다. 마지막으로 성능 평가를 통해 제안하는 기법이 질의 처리 시간 측면에서 기존 기법에 비해 최대 3배 높은 질의 처리 성능을 나타냄을 보인다.

Algorithm for Candidate Clue Decision based on Magic Rule in Kakuro Puzzle (가꾸로 퍼즐에 관한 마법 규칙 기반 실마리 후보 결정 알고리즘)

  • Kakuro puzzles are NP-complete problems where no way to solve puzzles in polynomial time is known. Until now, a brute-force search method or a linear programming method has been applied to substitute all possible cases. This paper finds a magic rule, a rule for box sizes and unfilled numbers according to sum clues. Based on the magic rule, numbers that cannot enter empty cells were deleted from the box for row and column sum clues. Next, numbers that cannot enter the box were deleted based on the sum clue value. Finally, cells with only a single number were confirmed as clues. As a result of applying the proposed algorithm to seven benchmarking experimental data, it was shown that solutions could be obtained for all problems.

  • 본 논문에서는 차세대 지능형 교통시스템인 UTIS(Urban Traffic Information System)의 빠른 접속 요구 조건을 만족하기 위한 DLC(Dynamic Limited Contention) 알고리즘을 제안한다. UTIS 네트워크는 고속으로 이동하는 차량에 설치된 모바일 노드와 도로 변에 설치된 노변 기지국으로 구성되며, 이 네트워크를 통해서 IP 데이터 그램의 전송 서비스, 방송 데이터를 실시간으로 전송하는 실시간 전송 서비스 그리고 차량의 위치를 계속적으로 알려 주는 위치 탐색 서비스를 지원한다. 이러한 전송 서비스를 지원하기 위해서 UTIS는 물리 계층과 MAC 계층으로 구성된다. 그러나 UTIS에서는 차량의 고속 이동으로 인해서 셀(cell)간의 핸드오프가 빈번히 발생하고 또한 위치 추적과 방송 서비스와 같은 실시간 전송 서비스를 지원해야 하기 때문에 기존의 802.11 MAC을 사용할 수 없다. 즉 UTIS에서의 빠른 등록 요구 조건을 충족시키기 위해 기존의 802.11에서 사용하는 경쟁(contention) 방식은 비효율적이다. 본 논문에서는 셀 내에 도착하는 노드 수에 따라 경쟁을 하는 그룹의 크기를 동적으로 조절하는 DLC 알고리즘을 제안한다. 기존의 UTIS에서는 그룹 크기를 정적으로 결정하고 모바일 노드는 자신의 주소에 이 정적 그룹 크기로 modulo하여 자신의 속한 그룹을 초기에 계산한다. 기지국이 접속해야하는 그룹을 폴링 메시지로 지정할 때 그 그룹에 속한 모바일 노드들만이 제한적으로 경쟁하게 된다. 이러한 정적인 그룹 크기는 셀 내에의 노드의 숫자와 그룹 크기의 분포를 고려하지 않는 방식으로 비효율적이다. 본 DLC 알고리즘에서는 전 폴링 주기 동안에 경쟁하는 노드의 빈도수를 계속적으로 추적하여 등록 시점에 경쟁하는 그룹의 개수를 동적으로 조절하게 된다. 이러한 방식은 UTIS와 같이 접속 시간이 제한적이고 접속하려는 노드 수가 빠르게 변화하는 환경 하에서 기존의 802.11 MAC 프로토콜과 정적인 그룹 크기 방식에 비해 효율적이다.

Efficient Motion Estimation Algorithm and Circuit Architecture for H.264 Video CODEC (H.264 비디오 코덱을 위한 효율적인 움직임 추정 알고리즘과 회로 구조)

  • This paper presents a high-performance architecture of integer-pel motion estimation circuit for H.264 video CODEC. Full search algorithm guarantees the best results by examining all candidate blocks. However, the full search algorithm requires a huge amount of computation and data. Many fast search algorithms have been proposed to reduce the computational efforts. The disadvantage of these algorithms is that data access from or to memory is very irregular and data reuse is difficult. In this paper, we propose an efficient integer-pixel motion estimation algorithm and the circuit architecture to improve the processing speed and reduce the external memory bandwidth. The proposed circuit supports seven kinds of variable block sizes and generates 41 motion vectors. We described the proposed high-performance motion estimation circuit at R1L and verified its operation on FPGA board. The circuit synthesized by using l30nm CMOS standard cell library processes 139.8 1080HD ($1,920{\times}1,088$) image frames per second and supports up to H.264 level 5.1.
