  • This paper studied performance of the AAL2 for variable rate real time services in ATM network with discrete-time simulation model. In this simulation, input parameters are packet fill delay for AAL2 PDU generation, guard time for ATM cell generation, burstness and number of channels. Though variation of the above mentioned parameters, we obtained end-to end delay variations and throughput, analyzed performance effect of the each parameter for voice packet service.

  • The difference of transfer mode between TDMA and ATM causes cell delay variation(CDV) to be generated in the receiving station. I proposed a optimization method of timestamps for discrete-timestamps mechanism to compensate CDV and an application method in multiple timestamps mechanism.

  • ATM망에서 트래픽의 버스트니스를 완화하기 위한 UPC(Usage Parameter Control) 알고리즘을 제안한다. 기존의 다이나믹 스페이서는 그린 토큰이 축적되어 있을 경우 도착하는 셀을 스페이서와 상관없이 네트워크로 셀을 유입시키는 동적인 스페이서 기능을 수행함으로써 CDV(Cell Delay Variation)에 의한 셀을 위반셀로 구별하지 못하고 그대로 통과시키는 단점이 있다. 즉 스페이서 기능을 사용하지 않음으로써 버스트니스해 질 수 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 버스트니스를 완화하기 위한 토큰 버킷을 다이나믹 스페이서 이전에 사용함으로써 다이나믹 스페이서의 버스트니스를 완화시키는 토큰 버킷을 적용한 다이나믹 스페이서 UPC 알고리즘을 제안한다.

  • 가입자망은 원래 전화 서비스를 위해 사용되었으나 멀티미디어 서비스를 지원하기위해 x-DSL기술을 기반으로 하는 가입자망 광대역화에 관심을 가지게 되었다. 특히 멀티미디어 서비스 비대칭성을 이용한 ADSL기술이 각광 받고 있다. 이 기술을 이용한 ATM 서비스가 가능하게 되어 DSLAM이라 불리우는 엑세스 멀티플렉서 장비의 개발 중요성이 부각되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 DSLAM에서 사용할 수 있는 셀 지연변이를 줄일 수 있는 버퍼관리 기법과 각 트래픽 클래스의 최대 대역폭을 보장해 줄 수 있는 대역폭관리 기법을 제안한다.

  • In order to cover a widespread service range, terrestrial/satellite-mixed network is being combined with terrestrial ATM network. This dissertation analyzes and investigates several previously existent CDV compensation methods in order to compensate CDV arising from interfacing satellite TDMA and ATM. Specifically to supplement the problems of timestamp and cell number counting methods, new Variable Timestamp method for CDV compensation is proposed. To evaluate the proposed method, MMPP(Markov Modulated Poisson Process), which can express VBR service very well, is selected as a cell input traffic model of terrestrial transmitting earth station. After several simulation, it is also confirmed that CDV compensation capability for VBR services is very superior to the cell number counting method. In this case, as the timestamp number Nts increases, CDV compensation capability increases, and the CDV distribution length is reduced.

  • Nowadays, the demand of HPI(High-speed Portable Internet) has been gradually increased to support the various services of high speed wire line internet such as xDS. HPI can support high speed internet in anyplace, anytime. For successful development of HPI, the performance should be evaluated according to the cell size and/or the number of users and cell design should be carried out based on these criteria. The previous cellular systems using CDMA technique focus on the establishment of link based on power control but HPI systems consider the QoS (Quality of Service) and its performance based on the scheduling technique. The results from the system level simulation show that the throughput is sensitive to the cell size and the number of users has little impact on it. Moreover, the variation of service delay is more sensitive to the number of users but less to the cell size.

  • Asynchronous Transfer Mode-Passive Optical Network(ATM-PON) Technology is one of the best solutions for implementation of broadband access network. In this paper, we propose a new Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation (DBA) algorithm for ATM-PON systems. The DBA is a key technique for data traffic management. DBA has been studied widely to allow ATM-PON to transport data traffic cost-effectively and efficiently, and currently a hot standardization issue in Full Service Access Network(FSAN) and ITU-T. The proposed DBA algorithm efficiently manages the user traffics according to their service categories. Performance of the proposed algorithm, in aspect of Cell Transfer Delay(CTD) and Cell Delay Variation(CDV), is evaluated using computer simulation.

  • An efficient packet transmit scheduling algorithm should be able to allocate the resource to each connection fairly based on the bandwidth and quality of service requirements negotiated during the call admission procedure and it should be able to isolate the effects of users that are behaving badly. In this paper, we propose an effective round-robin packet transmit scheduling mechanism, which we call the delay tolerant packet reserving scheme (DTPRS) based on delay QoS requirments. The proposed scheme can not only provide fairness and but also reduce delay, delay variation, and packet loss rate by reserving output link time slots of delay tolerant packets and assigning the reserved slotsto delay urgent packets. Our scheme is applicable to high speed networks including ATM network because it only requires O(1) work to process a packet, and is simple enough to implement.

  • In this paper we consider the performance of TCP video traffic over ABR with Long-Range Dependent VBR traffic. As compressed coded video traffics are increasing rapidly over Internet, lots of studies are being done for transmitting those traffics efficiently using limited network resources. We consider here the transmitting video service over ABR service in ATM networks, especially satellite networks. CBR or VBR services are suggested in transmitting the video traffic in ATM Forum TM 4.0. But ABR service connection, which is considered as appropriate service for data traffic, can be established with a small amount of bandwidth, MCR (Minimum cell rate). Furthermore ABR service can control the source's transmitting rate using feedback mechanism. Using this feature ABR service can be used in some applications which can control their quality of services corresponding to network loads. Compressed video sources with MPEG-2 are used for Long-Range Dependent VBR traffic here. We model the compressed video source to resemble the MPEG-2 transport streams. These compressed video traffic streams are consisted of three different frames, I-frame, P-frame, and B-frame. So when a network are overloaded, we can control the quality of service using this traffic features. TCP Traffics over ABR need large buffers in ATM switch to satisfy their QoS with background VBR traffics, which have high deviations in bandwidth. Furthermore satellite ATM networks with large feedback delay need large buffers corresponding RTT delay. The performance comparisons among EFCI and ER switch (ERICA+) switches in the network circumstances described above were shown in this paper. We also considered the case with ON-OFF VBR traffics.

Compensation Mechanism of Cell Delay Variation by Optimum Partial Timestamps on the ATM-to-Satellite Interface (위성 TDMA 와 ATM 접속에서 최적의 부분 타임스탬프에 의한 CVD 보상 기법)

  • In order to achieve the rapid deployment of services. B-ISON network is being combined with terrestrial ATM and satellite network. Cell delay variation (CDV) generated by the difference of transfer mode between TOMA and ATM deteriorates transmission quality of the network system. We proposed the Partial Timestamps algorithm to supplement the problems of existing COV compensation methods. To minimize CDV and to utilize the satellite channels efficiently. only the optimized timestamps of a few cells within a control unit time of TDMA are selected and transmitted to the receiving earth station. The COV compensating efficiency of Partial Timestamps is evaluated by simulation. It is confirmed that CDV compensation capability of the proposed mechanism is superior to the other methods.
